Voice Compare » Sengoku Basara » Tokugawa Ieyasu / Irdene
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Tokugawa Ieyasu / Irdene with sound clips and images.
Capcom's version of Tokugawa Ieyasu has been around in the Sengoku Basara series since the first game in the series. Tokugawa was originally a child in the Sengoku Basara series and while he is one of the Warlords in the game series he initially was not taken seriously because of his age however his skills on the Battlefield and his enormous Warrior Robot Honda Tadakatsu (A.K.A Iron Ox) made him a force to be reckoned with. Ieyasu was initially with the Oda Army but over the course of the series he was in his own army and when he became an adult later on in the series he went from fighting with a Double-Bladed spear to fighting with his Brass Knuckles. In Devil Kings, the US release of the first Sengoku Basara game Tokugawa was given a different name by the name of Irdene.

EDITOR'S OPINIONToday in the Sengoku Basara VC section we have a little something for this series' take on this known figure in Japanese History... TOKUGAWA IEYASU! In Sengoku Basara 1 A.K.A Devil Kings Tokugawa gets a somewhat odd name change of Irdene and was voiced by Jason Michas. While Jason's work on the role was not really great but I do find it to be a rather underrated performance to be honest. Jason's work on the role has been accused of making him sound too young (in which Tokugawa was younger in that game) but I do think that Jason's work on the role was not that bad. Jason's work on the role had a youthful feel that does sound energetic and even a little regal as well that actually works with the role. Jason's overall performance as Irdene/Ieyasu was not one of the best performances in that game but it wasn't one of the worst either.
In the Sengoku Basara anime English dubs and the 3rd Sengoku Basara game Liam O'Brien gets to take over the role here. While Liam does get to voice a somewhat younger Tokugawa in the first anime he voices the older Tokugawa in the 3rd game (though they don't sound all that different to me). Whether its the anime or in the game, Liam does a rather energetic performance for the role but not too overdone as his voice and performance does suit a young lord pretty well. Basically Liam's work on the role is an alright example of his voice work and a pretty good example of the voice work in the 3rd game and the Sengoku Basara anime. Overall I am not sure who to go with here as both of these guys are pretty good for the role in their own way.
