Voice Compare » Sengoku Basara » Hojo Ujimasa / Orwik
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Hojo Ujimasa / Orwik with sound clips and images.
Hojo Ujimasa is one of the secondary characters of the Sengoku Basara series whom has been around since the first game in the series. Ujimasa is the prideful lord of Odawara Castle and is the leader of the Hojo Clan whom fights with a 12-point Naganata. Ujimasa normally lets his silent ninja Kotaro Fuuma do the fighting for him but he is capable of fighting as he can use a Ice-powered Naginata and sometimes lets the spirits of his ancestors attack his foes. In the US-release of the original Sengoku Basara known as Devil Kings his name in that version of the game was Orwik.
EDITOR'S OPINIONToday on the Sengoku Basara VC section we have a little something for this series' take of the Daimyo of Odawara... HOJO UJIMASA! In the English version of Sengoku Basara 1 A.K.A Devil Kings Hojo was renamed Orwik as Louis Chirillo voiced Hojo/Orwik in that game. I admit at first when I heard that Louis was the one whom voiced Hojo/Orwik in the game it did seem a little strange (Louis is not a bad VA but there are plenty of Ocean VA's I would've been able to picture playing the role a bit more). But Louis' voice and performance was not bad as it does have a suitably elderly feel to it as his rather energetic performance does suit Hojo's prideful nature and is a good example of the voice work in that game.
In the Sengoku Basara anime, Hojo was voiced by Jerry Russell whom was a rather suitable alternative for the role. While Jerry is known for playing old men (which is no surprise considering that he is an old man himself) and Jerry's voice for the role was rather suitable for the role. Jerry's performance does have a suitable over-the-top feel that is energetic and felt very natural for the role here. While Hojo was one of those one-episode wonders in the first season of the Sengoku Basara, Jerry's performance for the role is one of the better performances in the show here.
Last but most certainly not the least is the 3rd Sengoku Basara game in which William Frederick Knight gets to take over the role here. While William alike Jerry is an elderly man known for playing elderly men, I was a little surprised by William's voice as it does sound a little different from what I am normally use to from him. Oh don't get me wrong I am not complaining as it definitely suits the role as William was a very suiting casting choice for the role. While William played the role a bit more subdued than his TV show counterpart it genuinely works for the role as it does have a energetic and prideful feel. So basically William's work on the role is a pretty good example of his work and a fine example of the voice work in the game. Overall I am not quite sure who to go with here as all of these guys did pretty well in their own way.
