Voice Compare » Scooby-Doo » Fred Jones
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Fred Jones with sound clips and images.
Fred is usually depicted as the leader of the Mystery Gang. The brave and athletic sportsman of the group and driver of the Mystery Machine, Fred Jones is basically the polar opposite of Shaggy Rogers. His trademark line is 'Let's Split up, Gang' or anything else that includes the word 'gang' as he doles out instructions to the rest of the group as they try to solve the latest mystery. He is usually looked at as the one in charge and the amateur sleuth of the group.

I feel bad for whoever's gonna take up the mantle of Freddy if Frank Welker retires.

@TheVengeanceKnight I feel Welker would sooner kick the bucket than retire.

@CatsTuxedo Leave the role of Freddy, that's what I meant. :-P

I don't feel right voting for either since Carl is voicing a younger version of the character and Frank was the original. Both did great but it just doesn't feel like a fair comparison for either since they're both very diffrent takes on the characters in thier shows and are at diffrent stages of thier lives.

These clips unfortunately don't do either of them justice, and looking at the CharGen, there's still a couple other VAs to add.
Anyway, both are very good, but I have to go with Frank Welker; he's the original, has much more character, and for chrissakes, he's a voice acting god! Definitely a true legend.
Carl was suitable for a younger Fred though; very entertaining and cute-sounding too.

Another shared role- he did the Spock screams in the same movie that Carl Steven played Spock.

Yeah, and that website says it's not affiliated with Warner Brothers, Hanna-Barbera or Cartoon Network in any way, so it might just be a mistake. You could try to contact the site if you want to, I wasn't going to take it that far.

Yeah, thanks for your research. I guess until I can find another source to confirm anything we will leave it as is.

@OptimusSolo I hear both Fred and Velma were in the New Scooby-Doo Mysteries with cameo appearances. Marla Frumpkin reprised her role of Velma from The Scooby and Scrappy Show, but I hear Frank returned to do Fred. Why not? He voiced other characters in that series! XD

@PurpleWarrior13 I will have to check that out man, Thanks! A lot of the Scooby shows are missing the recurring/guests unfortunately :(

@OptimusSolo Anyway, I'm 100% sure Frank is the only one now. Fred and Velma were in a couple episodes of the New SD Mysteries, but not the New SD Show. And Frank did voice Fred in the New SD Mysteries. Sorry if I caused confusion before.

Yea, I knew he voiced Gaggy Rogers, which is one of Shaggy's uncles who appeared in the Wedding Bell Boos episodes of The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show.

Also, just checked and no record of it on IMDB or even Alan Young's official website. It does mention that he voiced a character named Gaggy Rogers in the show though.

All of my sources say that Fred did not even appear in The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show. I will check into it though

Didn't Alan Young voice Fred in The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show

Frank Welker. But Carl Stevens was good as his younger voice!

Yeah, and that is pretty close to his regular voice from what I have heard in interviews.
