Steve Blum is a fantastic Mugen, nice change of pace from him too.

Liam O'Brien sounds unique too but pushed back by a lack of material.

Having Just Finished Watching Samurai Champloo, I have to say that Mugen is now one of My Favourite Roles from Steve Blum.

Liam O'Brien is a Good Alternative hurt by a Lack of Material.....

Steve Blum Gets my Vote.

Bonus : This Compare make me think that Liam O'Brien should Try voicing Wolverine at some point

 3 Shout Outs!
1) Steve Blum
2) Liam O'Brien

I actually watched the series in Japanese, so I'm much more familiar with how Kazuya Nakai handled Mugen than I am either one of these guys; speaking of which, he's probably one of the most distinctive-sounding seiyuus I can think of, and he did such an awesome job voicing this character. That said, both Steve and Liam do very well with what material they're given. Of the two, I prefer Blum's take, though O'Brien was a nice alternative.

Steve Blum was pretty awesome as Mugen. It was a nice change of pace from his usual more laid back characters (like Spike) he's known for, he really brought out the punk aspect of Mugen rather well (maybe not as well as Kazuya Nakai) but still pretty good all things considered.

Liam O'Brien sounds really uncannily similar to Richard Ian Cox's InuYasha....I don't think I've ever heard him use this voice anywhere else, it's a shame it's a pretty good and unique voice. I could have been fine with Liam's voice for Mugen had he been cast in the anime.

Though Ultimately I give my vote to Steve Blum.

@Autovolt BTW it is most likely that Steven Blum couldn't reprise the role due to having stopped performing in non-union projects, immediately after Samurai Champloo. Kari Wahlgren was (mostly) the same.

Steve is the natural choice, but if Liam lowered the voice he has here slightly and added a hint more rasp I think he would be just as great a fit.

Liam does the character well enough, but I gotta with Steve.

If for some reason Steve couldn't do Mugen's voice I'd say Liam would be the 2nd choice. Steve's Mugen is deeper and raspier; I think that suits Mugen's character better. I agree with TheTrueYama about Liam doing a younger (16/17) year old Mugen.
