Voice Compare » Sailor Moon » Tuxedo Mask
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Tuxedo Mask with sound clips and images.
Tuxedo Mask AKA Darien Shields/Mamoru Chiba is the lead male character in the Sailor Moon franchise. As Darien / Mamoru, he acts as the down-to-earth boyfriend of Serena/Usagi. As Tuxedo Mask, he acts as an ally of Sailor Moon (throwing roses and giving heroic chants). On the Moon Kingdom, he was known as Prince Darien/Endymion, and is Serena/Usagi's future husband. The other Sailor Scouts look up to him as well.
Darien was originally voiced, in English, by Rino Romano in one of his earlier roles (before going on to voice iconic characters like Spiderman and Batman). He voiced Darien/Tuxedo Mask in only 11 episodes before leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Semi-well known Canadian voice actor, Toby Proctor took over the role in Episode 12, and stayed in the role throughout the rest of the English season, ending at Episode 65 (mid-way through Sailor Moon R).
Canadian TV actor, Vince Corazza took over the role on Episode 66, after previously voicing Alan. This recast occurred after a two-year hiatus, and Toby Proctor wasn't able to return to the role (it's been reported that he left over a pay dispute). Vince Corazza voiced Darien / Tuxedo Mask for the rest of Sailor Moon R, as well as all 3 movies. He later went on to reprise the role for the remaining English seasons: Sailor Moon S and Sailor Moon SuperS, becoming most well-known in the role.

EDITOR'S OPINION
I suppose I prefer Vince Corazza out of the bunch. They all had their pros and cons, and they all sounded basically the same. Rino didn't really get enough time to shine. I did think he was better as Tuxedo Mask than Darien though. Toby's acting was only sub-par, though he got fairly decent by the time his run ended. Vince had a bit more character, I thought, while performing Tuxedo Mask and Darien very well! Sometimes his acting wasn't the best, but he was probably the best of this trio.PurpleWarrior13

I dont understand why Vincent gets all the praise? I cant even tell if his tuxedo mask is good because by the time he took on the character he was already a pointless sue. Tobys darien is a very young playful darien. Vincent might of been technically good but he was just sooo bland. I grew up with both but Toby is the one i will carry with me forever.

Rino. Toby's voice just doesn't sound right to me.
Vincent did a good job as Darien though, his Tuxedo Mask is over the top.

Toby. Always, always Toby. When they switched, they could've at least found a voice actor who hadn't already had a major role using the exact voice (Alan). Urgh!

I don't think I'm able to choose between the trio. I liked them all. I liked Toby's insulting Usagi that's always classic. Vince did give a good portrayal of Mamoru as the BF with compassion and gentleness but him as Tuxedo Mask was... hmm while it was suitable it wasn't my cup of tea as Toby's Tuxedo Mask. Romano's Tuxedo has that mysterious vibe which is perfect during those episodes who knows how he would of portrayed him once Mamoru was awakened.

goodness, I think I got them confused again. Oh well, judging by these clips I prefer Vince better but he done the S and SuperS seasons and I didn't like his voice in those but I liked his voice in the R season. That makes no sense. I was sure Vince was the second voice..

@dreamer If it'll make it easier for you:
Rino Romano: Eps. 1-11
Toby Proctor: Eps. 12-65 (mid-R)
Vince Corazza: Eps. 66-159, Movies

Vincent! I always get him confused with Toby as they sound very similar but I can distinguish them a bit better now than I used to. All I tell myself is that I prefer his second voice after his first one and I love his voice in the films. So that is how I know I like Vincent best (he is not too bad on the eyes either lol)

I thought Toby Proctor did a brilliant job with the break-up scene in Cosmetic Caper. That said, Vince did a better job as Darien/Tuxedo Mask.
