EDITOR'S OPINIONSanosuke Sagara, started off in the series as a fighter for hire but ended up being one of Kenshin's group of friends there.
In the late 90's Sony dub that faded off into obscurity he was voiced Derek Stephen Prince, now I am certainly not calling Derek a Bad VA but MAN was he miscast here. (But then again the only one in Kenshin's group that Derek would be remotely fitting for would be Kenshin himself. Granted while Derek might make a good alternative I would still go for Richard Hayworth but that's a different story.) But in Derek's defense while its easy to tell he is the one voicing Sanosuke and its rather unfitting to put it lightly Derek does try to give a good performance. But while Derek's acting is pretty good the fact that he was cast like this is a pretty big WTF moment. The difference in the casting for the Sony dub of the series is generally not that bad but this is a bit of an exception here.
In the 2K2 Media Blasters dub of the series VA Lex Lang voiced Sanosuke and this casting on the other hand was pretty much perfect. Seriously Lex's Sanosuke voice felt natural right from the start and its one of the best performances in his career.
And last but not quite the least is VA Gray G. Haddock who voiced Sanosuke in ADV's handiwork on Ruroni Kenshin namely Samurai X Reflection and he is not that bad. Gray's voice for Sanosuke is pretty fitting and his performance for the role does fit Sanosuke pretty well in general especially considering the fairly melancholy feel of that particular special.
Overall I am definitely going for Lex Lang in first place, Gray G. Haddock in 2nd and Derek Stephen Prince in a distant though miscast 3rd.
