Voice Compare » Ranma 1/2 » Nabiki Tendo
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Nabiki Tendo with sound clips and images.
EDITOR'S OPINIONAlright folks here is the VC for the middle child of the Tendo Family namely this shameless little money grubber known as NABIKI TENDO! We shall start this off with the North American English dub released by Viz in which Angela Costain voice Nabiki for most of the series. While unlike the majority of her castmates in that dub, Nabiki was pretty much Angela's only VA performance in an Anime English (but then again her only other VA role was in a episode of G.I Joe Extreme). Don't get me wrong I am not complaining (after it did for the most part gave her a steady role for about a decade) and Angela does do pretty well with the role. Angela does have a nice playful tone to her performance which does work rather well with Nabiki's scheming nature. To make a long story short Angela's work as Nabiki is pretty above average in general and is a good example of the voice work in the Viz dub of Ranma 1/2.
The 2nd clip here is from Saffron Henderson (whom has turned 43 by the time this VC was made) and she was the singing voice of Nabiki Tendo. Granted this only occurred in the OVA in which Saffron sung for Nabiki for a couple of the opening themes for that OVA. I've always been quite fond of Saffron Henderson's work and its nice to actually get to hear her sing (even if its for parts of a song). Don't get me wrong I understand why it was only for a part of the song but still I do rather enjoy hearing Saffron sing. Oh yes and while Angela voiced Nabiki for most of the series in Season 6 (and part of Season 5) she went to flight school so her younger sister Elaina Wotten Costain took over the role. Fortunately while Elaina didn't have a lot of acting experience (Nabiki has her only VA role and one of her only roles in general) she is known for doing a good job sounding like her older sister and I for one won't contest that. Seriously there wasn't a whole lot of a difference between Angela's and Elaina's Nabiki voices. Oh yes and as for Elaina's performance as Nabiki it turned alright as well sure its not as good as Angela's but its certainly not bad though.
Last (and slightly) in the least is the Hong Kong made Animax dub for the SE Asia TV Market. Now I know that the reception for the Animax Ranma 1/2 dub like all other Animax dubs are not that great but the performance for Nabiki in this dub is not bad. While Nabiki does seem to have a light slightly nasally accent going on here is nothing too bad as she also sounds like a playful little schemer as well. The performance for Nabiki in the Animax dub is nothing really amazing but it does work for the role and is a good example of the voice work in the Animax Dub. Overall I am going with Angela Costain (and in a way Saffron Henderson) the most with Angela's sister Elaina and Nabiki's Animax Dub VA close behind.
