Alpha 5

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Alpha 5 with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Power Rangers

Alpha 5 is the first in a line of autonomous robots (followed by Alpha 6 and Alpha 7) that help the intergalactic fighting force known as the Power Rangers. He is a small, spunky alien robot from the planet Edinoi who serves as an assistant to Zordon

EDITOR'S OPINION

For the majority of his appearances, veteran voice actor Richard Steven Horvitz provides Alpha 5's voice. Alpha 5 was one of Horvitz's earliest roles, and arguably one of his most iconic. His high-pitched voice, with an almost constantly-fretting delivery and cadence, combined with the suit-actors shuffling/waddling movement, created the most endearing character of the franchise.

When the decision was made to to create a contemporary, live-action Power Rangers film, comedian Bill Hader was chosen to give his interpretation of the character. As far as feature film celebrity castings go, I think was one of the smarter choices, especially given Hader's range and overall voiceover skill (despite "celebrity status"). In both design and voice, Hader's Alpha 5 is reminiscent of his original portrayal, yet also new and unique. He has a similarly higher-pitched voice, but it's a little more subdued and not so frenetic. I think of Hader's vocal performance as being Horvitz's, but dialed back from 11 to 8.

Both voice actors are great in the role for different reasons, but in the end, Horvitz is waddling away with my vote.

Both did well in the role but Horvitz is the one that went together like peas in a pod.

He also appeared in the anniversary episode in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive. I'm pretty sure it was stated to be Alpha 5, and not 6 or 7 or whatever was in later seasons. I don't know who voiced him in that episode, and even though it wasn't very good, i feel it's only fair that he/she should be included in this comparison.

Both are good, but you can't go wrong with the classics, so I'm going with Richard Steven Horvitz.

Both are great, but Richard Horvitz is so iconic in the role that I can't help but vote for him

My vote goes to Richard. It's one of his most iconic roles next to Invader Zim. He's the voice I hear when listening to Alpha 5. Bill Hader was still very impressive in his own right.

Bill Hader was a great casting choice, he has elements of Richard but does his own spin. I also think he improved some lines and thus has this "realness" to his delivery.

That said, Richard's Alpha was just too iconic. He made Alpha likable and cute, never adding to much to make him annoying. He has my vote.
