EDITOR'S OPINION
Misty, quite possibly one of the most known Tsunderes in all of modern anime. (Well in the US at least of course.) But still she is well known as the Gym Leader of Cerulean City and the original "Girl traveling in Ash's little group".Ever since Misty's debut in the anime back in the late 90's she has been voiced by Rachel Lillis, and Rachel is very well known for this role (and quite understandably so). And yes I too am one of the plenty whom always did enjoy Rachel Lillis' handiwork as Misty and its always been some of her best handiwork.
Though in the rather infamous Pokemon The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon (and occasionally afterwards) she was voiced by Michele Knotz whom also voiced a certain other familiar Rachel Lillis role. And Michele Knotz always went for the sound-a-like route for her known Pokemon Female Human roles (except for May... at first, but that's a different story.) But still Michele does do a pretty good sound-a-like and overall does a fairly satisfactory performance as Misty. (But then again by the time Michele got to voice Misty it was at the time when Misty only very occasionally ever appeared at all in the Pokemon anime so its not like Michele had that much time to voice Misty.)
Overall neither one are bad but I am going with Rachel Lillis here.

Rachael Lillis is pretty much Misty.
Michele Knotz did a decent impression in Mastermind first but in Sun & Moon it has badly declined and sounds very stilted and wooden in places. Shame really, I thought she was one of the better soundalikes.

Rachael Lillis was, once again, the most natural and consistent in this role. She made Misty sound very fierce and tomboyish, but also was capable of making her sound very soft and sweet when needed as well. It was a performance that showed a lot of range from Rachael, and is one of her more iconic roles for a good reason.
Michele Knotz...was actually pretty good at first in the part, and stood out to me as the best performance in the (mostly) awful Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon Special, but the performance has been very inconsistent from her as this character, past that point. In BW116, Michele made Misty sound more like Eileen Stevens' Iris than Rachael's Misty, and in SM, Michele's Misty fell to a new low- she now sounds more like her May than Rachael's Misty, mixed in with a very nasally delivery and stilted tone that...just doesn't work for this part. It's unfortunate because she actually started out as probably the best of the current cast in the part, but the performance has declined dramatically since her debut, so I can't say I approve of where she is these days with Misty.
Overall, Rachael was the best Misty (to me).

As @HylianBelmont has already said Rachael Lillis IS Misty! As for Michele well...come on your a great Jessie but this is a step to far.

Rachael Lillis IS Misty. As some people here have already said, she just gives her the most character and charm. Michele Knotz does a dead-on impression however. Have to give her credit there!

Going with Rachael Lillis here, really. She nailed it as Misty. She brings out the short-tempered, tomboyish personality of Misty but also shows her warmer, sweeter side and just really brings out the different sides of her character well. She's a classic in this role.
I guess Michele Knotz was fine as a voice match, though to be honest she never had much to work with at all since, you know, Misty for the most part vanished from the series when the whole recasting happened. She was worse in the BW flashback, but the Pokemon anime after the recasting (DP-present) suffers from having an overall weak dub in general, both in acting and writing, so I guess I'll just leave it at that.

1. Rachael Lillis
Her Misty was full of personality: hotheaded and bossy, but still had a soothing and motherly tone to her voice.
2. Michele Knotz
She was okay in the Mirage special(despite the poor dialogue choices, but that's the scriptwriter's fault), but during the BW flashback she was a bit too high-pitched. That being said, she didn't do the voice for quite some time so I'll be more lenient here.

Compared to the other post 4Kids voices, I think Misty's was a very convincing sound alike. Too bad we barely see her again.

@Smash The Oni
I'd agree, but the performance declines in BW116's dub, and considering what happened to both Brock as well as Team Rocket later on in general...maybe it was for the best Misty left when she did.

1. Rachael Lillis: Lillis really took this role and went into orbit. Her Misty is funny and at times sad, emotional, angry and happy. Wonderful voice work here.
2. Michele Knotz: Once again Knotz tries to imitate Lillis, she sounds decent here but in BW116 her Misty sounded atrocious. Given the fact that she didn't voice the character as long as Lillis so I honestly can't say this ranking is fair.

@CartoonFanatic1993 UPDATE: Misty reappeared in Sun and Moon and Knotz's performance greatly improved compared to Mastermind and the BW116 flashback,

Once again Michele manages to do a perfect impression one of Rachel Lillis' voices, but since Rachel originated the role (in English) my vote goes to her, Misty is my favorite Rachel Lillis character after all.

Rachel Lillis really shined and brought out the best as Misty, both her kind-hearted sweet moments and also her angrier and snarkier moments. She just fits The Tomboyish Mermaid perfectly.
Michele Knotz didn't have much time to work with in the role like Rachel, she's fine I suppose? Though I rather would have had Lillis return.

1) Rachael Lillis- Perfect fit, not much I can really say, she nailed it sounding genuinely like a tomboyish girl.
2) Michele Knotz- What user HeroRises143 said, it's spot on, really.

Rachael is better because she sounds more tomboyish and natural in the role.
Michele sounds a bit forced and unnatural but was still good in the Mastermind Special, but in the Unova flashback her performance degenerated and now sounds too much like dub Iris.

I think I'll go with Michelle, she didn't have much but she was as good as Rachael despite the limited material and to be fair the degrading on BW was from lack of practice, not sure if Rachael would be much better if she had years of hiatus

#1) Rachael Lillis (EP001-EP276 = AG/Hoenn 3-Part Cameo = Early BF/AG132-AG134)- Perfect. She was so awesome in this role, that she even outdoes her ORG JPN Seiyu Mayumi Iizuka to me, who was also quite excellent. She managed to get the fiery temper down well, but also the sweet and caring side as well-- she nailed it. 10/10
#2) Michele Knotz (Pokemon: Learning League > MoMP > BW116)- Good. Michele did a great job with Misty in MoMP, doing an almost spot on imitation of Rachael's Misty, but the only thing that she was lacking in comparison was proper delivery of her lines/the acting, which was awkward, like "WHAT in the world brought YOU here?" She improved in the Pokemon: Learning League Shorts, and was an equal to Rachael as Misty there. However, in BW116, she sounded completely off in ther ole, and more like Eileen Stevens' Iris than Rachael Lillis' Misty. 8/10

They're both so similar sounding. Eerily similar. Michelle Knotz' Rachael Lillis impression for Misty, as with Jessie, is simply perfect. However, you still can't beat the real, original Rachael Lillis. Her Misty was absolute perfection, to the point where many (myself included) prefer it over the character's original Japanese voice. She gets my vote every time.

Rachael Lillis. Michele Knotz was just doing a cheap imitation of Lillis in the Mastermind Special, but she did improve greatly in the "Pokemon Learning League" Shorts online for a time. However, with the recent flashback in BW, it seems Michele Knotz has completely lost her touch with Misty.
In BW116, Misty said "Charmander looks funny," and I swear she sounded just like Eileen Stevens does as Iris. I know it's only one line, but it seems like Michele has actually gotten worse at Misty in the recent era episodes.
Rachael Lillis is the best voice actor for Misty. Hot-tempered, fiery, passionate...Lillis had it all down pat for Misty. She was very well cast in this role.
Michele Knotz is pretty average...she's not good or bad. She's just okay in this role, and she's gotten worse in BW116. Rachael Lillis wins this one.

Agreed. Michele could probably do a great job as Misty again, if she had the time to get comfortable in the role.

Misty is no pushover. Rachael Lillis proves that fact a million times. Michele Knotz, on the other hand, makes Misty look like a pushover. I speak for all Pokemon fans when I say everyone prefers Rachael Lillis more than Michele Knotz, am I right?

Like I said about Jessie, Rachael Lillis makes the perfect voice for Misty. She knows how to make the character more interesting than any other female. Michele Knotz botched it badly when she took over.
Replysaid at 1:02 PM on Tue Oct 1 2013
@Legacyman Michele actually sounded alot better in the Mastermind of Mirages special than just that one clip would lead you to believe. She was at least good at sounding like how Rachael was voicing Misty by late Johto.

Misty/Kasumi, the tomboyish mermaid.
1) Rachael Lillis- Phenomenal. It's rare that an English dub performance supercedes even its Japanese counterpart to most people, but I must say Lillis did to me. She just sound like she has this fiery intensity in her voice that is absolutely perfect for Misty.
2) Mayumi Iizuka- Great performance. Fits Kasumi very well, but a bit too sweet-sounding. Still can pull off the tomboyish side of her well enough, and is a pleasure to hear.
3) Michele Knotz- Decent performance. Rather generic and forced, but a good voice for the character. Not the worst performance in TPCi English but not the best one either.

Though Rachel Lillis may be working on stage and broadway at the moment but I did read on Save Our Voice Actors, that she's willing to come back on Pokemon. She's been allowed back before to do minor roles but I feel she's about ready to regain her rightful place as Jessie. Whatever happens, it's time that Pokemon got revolutionized, starting with bringing Lillis and the others back.

I really am not a big fan of Michele Knotz being in recast roles. Sometimes it works (like here), but other times (May), she just miserably fails. I'll have to go with Rachael Lillis here, however. Michele is a bit bland.

Rachael was amazing in this role! She completely nailed the character, and sounded very natural.
Not to be rude, but I dislike Micheal to complete hell, but I guess she was the best VA that TPCI had to voice Misty. To be honest she isn't so bad in this role, still Rachael by a landslide.

Ah the memories... I really wish they hadn't cut Misty... I pretty much stopped watching the show after the 2 season, like for instance I heard the new theme song and was thinking (literally) "WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT" I just feel like they have made so so many bad decisions, like while I was writing this I could hear the season 1 theme song (in my mind) and I just feel they need to fall back on the things that they did that were good. Any waus for all this rambling I haven't gotten very far. Out of Rachael Lillis and Michele Knotz I definitly prefer Lillis, and seriously you older gen people like me, remember those cool "little" pikachu shorts/adventures they did with the movies (I miss them so much). not sure if you're joking or not but if you're serious and actually want to know, Misty was Ash's original traveling partner for Kanto, Orange Islands and Johto (original series).
After she left May replaced her in Hoenn and Battle Frontier. Then Dawn replaced May in Sinnoh.
If you haven't watched the old episodes you probably wouldn't know of Misty since he rarely appears anymore.
