Voice Compare » Pokemon » Lucario

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Lucario with sound clips and images.
Lucario is a jackal-like Fighting/Steel Pokemon with the ability to detect Aura, the life essence of all living things. This allows it to read their thoughts and see them from afar. It is the evolved form of Riolu.

While most Lucarios cannot speak, a talking Lucario has appeared twice. In the movie Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, it was voiced by Sean Schemmel. Despite common belief, he did not reprise the role for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Instead, Bill Rogers provided its voice. However, Sean Schemmel returned to voice Lucario in 2014's Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

Bill wasn't too bad, and his more aggressive voice did work (Brawl is a fighter, after all). My vote goes to Sean, because even though he could be a bit too gruff, his voice was a little less forced.

 1 Shout Out!
1. Sean Schemmel: Schemmel was the most distinct sounding and was pretty good with his emotions.
2. Bill Rogers: Sounds lforced and angry and also sounds like he needs to drink some prune juice. I prefer he voice a non-speaking Lucario.

Sean Schemmel- Sean gave Lucario a lot of depth, expressing a variety of emotions while also sounding mysterious and weathered as the character, and I'm really glad he's been allowed to reprise the role recently.

Bill Rogers- Bill just comes off as constantly angry and one dimensional as Lucario, even sounding pretty constipated at times, though to be fair he was voicing him in a fighter, but the execution was pretty bad.

Sean was more memorable and less rough and deep sounding: had a gruff tone but was smooth with it. His Lucario voice works for both a Movie and a fighter like SSB4, to me.

Bill was too deep and rough sounding, on the other hand: works for a fighter I guess, but can't picture that working with Lucario in that Movie at all.

@HeroRises143 To put some context on it, though, there's a lot more of an intense situation in Smash than in the 8th movie. Most of the situations Lucario was in were non-action mellow situations. Smash features him constantly grunting and roaring since he's fighting.

@HeroRises143 Forgot to mention, Bill's voiced all Lucarios in the anime as well since DP, they might be better references for his calmer voice. And... He doesn't get to fully talk as much, so maybe with some practice he could have been better.

But yeah, still going with Sean on this one.

I wouldn't Sean Schemell's voice to be EXACTLY the same after 9 years. It sounds better if you listen to it from the SSB4 sound test, where nothing drowns it out. At least he's back.

dont like bill, he just made his brock voice in sinnoh into a furry and then deepened it so it sounds more like a deep monster voice
#29 is a smash attack but it sounds like pained grunt

Smash Bros 4 Sean sounds pretty weird, I didn't like Bill's take but Sean sounds far too angry in that game, he's better in the Lucario film that's for sure

Gameplay-wise i prefer Bill Rogers. Schemell it's a good actor, but in SSB4 his Lucario felt flat.

@RykoMD I honestly felt the opposite i find Lucario more calm and battle ready for me which to me fits lucario's character better than Bill Rogers deep anger thing which it's just hardly heard. But hey it's our opinion though.

Now that Smash 4 is out I am much more certain in saying the following sentence:

I prefer Bill Rogers, for both his regular and psychic voices.

@rosebr10 I respect that but Sean for me it makes his character more fitting than Bill cause it seems like he was trying too hard to sound calm yet battle ready in my book.

Sean Schemmel: he actually made Lucario sound like something more than a gangster that's constipated and is going to beat you up for your change, unlike Bill Rogers, while also bringing actual humanity to the role and making you feel pity for Lucario in the 8th Movie, as opposed to thinking of Lucario as a dumb thuggish grunt.

I'm glad Sean's reprising the role in the next SSB installment: Bill was awful in this role (he was no better in the actual Anime with his "RAH-RAGH-UGH") and it's for the best Sean is taking over again in the next SSB Video Game.

Obviously Sean is the best, he sounds serious yet can be light-hearted also which is fitting considering Lucario is not only a wise warrior but a protector too. A perfect balance.

Needless to say I like Bill Rogers's voice and it works for a fighting game, but it sounds too gruff and more like a thug, like someone who would rather "take" a life rather then protect a live, which is the whole point of Lucario's character. At least in my opinion. :-)

@Torak To be fair, I can't see where the light-hearted part comes into play. I completely agree that Sean was better than Bill, but Lucario was never "light-hearted"; if anything, he was arrogant, condescending, and had a terrible temper.

Bill is so awkwardly deep so Sean takes my vote
Either way I prefer his Japanese voice

I'm so used to Bill due to Lucario being my main in brawl, that Sean sounds so weird to me, despite sounding better.

Schemel is a better character, but Rogers has the better and more unforgettable voice.

Sean Schemmel makes Lucario seem like the perfect warrior. Bill Rogers makes him sound like a pathetic bully. Sean should definitely do more work on Lucario if their will be.

It's really weird that they're comparing two different voice actors when one has had a larger speaking role, and the other one has not.
Still, Sean Schemmel all the way. He did great as Lucario; got the cold tone in his voice down perfectly, and I never could have guessed that he had voiced Lucario.

"Watch the power of aura! HUGGGRRRHHHH!"
I think I'm more used to Bill, but Mr. Schemmel's voice grabs my attention more. I like both of their voices!

I think Sean Schemmel fits the role of Lucario best. It seems to be so much more relatable and down-to-Earth than what Bill Rogers' take seems like it does.

Sean Schemmel just seems more...evocative. Like he has more range to capture more emotions as opposed to being relegated to being adept at one emotion like Bill seems to be here.

I guess what I'll say is:

1- Sean Schemmel
2- Bill Rogers

Sean is much more natural, and brought a certain touch of humanity that really stands out. It's as if Lucario was more of a real person than a Pokemon, which reflects how the events of M08 had taken place before Poke Balls were invented (so that they were treated more as equals instead of confining them into those cramped capsules).

In stark contrast, Bill doesn't sound anything human. In fact, after listening closely to him some more, I think his voice was sfx-modified to sound like that. Regardless, he's a decent replacement I suppose.

Anyway, Sean is the clear winner here. Bill isn't bad, but extremely forced; you can tell that he's really straining himself behind the mic.

but Rogers tried he can act he's been doing anime since 1999 the only problem with TPCi's dub is poor vocal direction

Listen to it and compare with bill's voice, its weird how similar they are! btw I choose you! SEAN SCHEMMEL! ahaha. I like his voice better because it's more calming, but say if there is like an evil side to lucario or something, bill rogers is the man for the job.

I like Sean's for the more natural feel. Also, not to sound rude, Bill's clip makes him sound ver obssessed with the aura, just because all of his sentences involve him saying it

@Music Meister Well actually, that's how it is in the game. All of Lucario's victory quotes (i.e. everything outside of battle) are about the aura.

Bill's is good, and he also was Maylene's Lucario (right?) and was good there too, but though (at the time of writing this) I haven't seen Movie 8, I like Sean's more and think he set a good standard.
