Ah Jessie the feminine though blatantly dominant half of this little trio of Team Rocket members.

I know the Voice comparisons between 4Kids and PUSA do have a bit of a history of debates. (Similar to that certain situation regarding Dragon Ball namely DBZ but that's another story.)

But I will say this much on how Michele Knotz does a very good impression of Rachel Lillis' Jessie voice. Rachel Lillis' voice work for Jessie is pretty classic but Michele Knotz as Jessie is one of the better PUSA voices for sure well IMO of course.

#1- Rachael Lillis
#2- Michele Knotz

Rachael Lillis > Michele Knotz at her prime (BF & BW) >>> Michele Knotz's deteriorated performance (XY onward)

Rachael Lillis is pretty much a classic, though Michele Knotz did a good impression of hers at her peak: however, as of XY/SM the voice is way too high-pitched, the tone is a bit ditzy at times, and it feels more like a caricature of Jessie than anything else to me.

I do prefer Lillis. However Knotz is a fantastic replacement.

Rachael Lillis: She sounded great as Jessie all the way through, aside from a few mishaps. Early on, it kind of reflects her threatening self, making it sounds like an evil female villain. Later on, Rachael sometimes slips to her Misty voice whenever Jessie yells, but that's just me.

Michele Knotz: While she was one of the better sounding replacement voices, I had one problem. Knotz does a good impersonation of Lillis' Jessie voice, but you clearly see a difference. Michele made Jessie sounds like a teenager, due to the higher pitch. All in all, this applies to all series after Hoenn saga. IMO, she's the best sounding TR member after TPCi took over.

Rachael Lillis killed it as Jesse. So much personality and attitude in her take!

Michelle Knotz is actually a pretty good replacement. But she unfortunately she tends to sound a bit annoying in some lines where she really should sound funnier. Still, not a bad performance overall I feel.

1. Rachael Lillis
Easily my favourite character played by Rachael Lillis. Rachael started off as intimidating and kind of flat, but as time went on her Jessie evolved into the character we all know and love today: a hot-tempered, domineering and somewhat spoiled but bumbling villain with a heart of gold. I love all her rage moments and that laugh of hers. That being said, she could also pull off Jessie's more emotional moments, like the episode with Chansey/Blissey.
2. Michele Knotz
While she started off doing a decent Rachael Lillis impression, unfortunately now she does a lot of high pitched squealing and sounds too much like a valley girl. Again, it's probably the voice director's fault.

1. Rachael Lillis:

I prefer her take, as I think she sounded more controlled in her delivery, and much more like a grown woman with a fiery temper, which is more or less how Jessie acts in general.

2. Michele Knotz:

She's fairly high pitched and squeaky a lot of the time these days, and I feel has a weird lisp at times. She was good at the start of her run, but nowadays, not so much.

1. Rachael Lillis: Lillis shows the most versatility in this role. She could make Jessie happy, angry, sad or downright hilarious. A very good example of her voice work as Jessie is AG006: A Tail With a Twist! she showed an impressive vocal range and it was very good too.
2. Michele Knotz: Knotz seems miscast in this role, in the Mirage special and BF season her Jessie was slightly similar to Lillis. In DP she took the role and pitched it up and added in squealing. In BW when TRio was serious she was tolerable, and in XY her Jessie took a nosedive. She has molded her BF/Mirage special, DP, & BW voices into one giving Jessie a weird valleygirl teenager-like voice.

I absolutely love both Rachel Lillis and Megumi Hayashibara as Jessie, they're both over the top, they're both bossy and authoritative, they're both hilarious and sometimes I think they sound a little sexy too.

Michele Knotz did really start off as a great replacement for Rachel, in fact one of their better replacements but unfortunately she like everyone else continue to devolve and get worse. Maybe she could get better again someday but who knows?

I personally would love to see Tabitha St. Germain voice Jessie, I could see her doing a variation of her Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon but slightly lighter and play up her more bossy and egotistical. Colleen Clinkenbeard could also make for an excellent Jessie too.

Rachael Lillis had a very consistent performance throughout her run, capable of sounding serious, bossy, and yet also sympathetic when the time called for it. Rachael's Jessie was superb, and she really brought out the character's nature very well.

Michele Knotz started out pretty good as Jessie in Battle Frontier, and was probably the only successful "sound-alike" cast by TPCi, but that changed completely in Diamond and Pearl, where Knotz began making Jessie sound like an air-headed and high pitched version of the character.

However, Knotz got better in Black and White, sounding more serious and lower pitched, but then adopted this weird valley girl affliction to her tone at times.

Sadly, in The Series: XY, Knotz has sunk to a new low as Jessie. Now the voice is again too high pitched, goofy, and now Jessie just sounds like an air-headed teen valley girl- whenever I've tried to watch the dub recently, aside from Cathcart's poorly written dialogue (e.g. "Na-na-na-na-poo-poo," "Primo perps"), Jessie sounds like a ditz, and it makes it impossible for me to take her seriously.

She isn't going to start until XYZ Episode 15, actually, but the dub's quality is still awful at present.

That said, Ortiz is not going to save a thing if you ask me. The voice director is not the issue at this point. It never really has been the issue. The issue has been there since September 2006.

said at 8:11 AM on Wed Mar 23 2016
@Skeeter Mania
The voice acting, the script, the music replacement, the 30 second themes...a lot of things. Basically, the crew itself is the issue (in my opinion, which I'm expecting to be flamed for saying very shortly).

Rachael Lillis was a lot better. As a kid, I couldn't really appreciate the nuances she put in her voice for Jessie but now I can see her portrayal was really quite excellent- that cackle she puts in is really classic.

Michele Knotz is very hit or miss depending on the season as Jessie. In BF, she was acceptable, but a bit subdued. In DP, Michele was way too high pitched a lot of the time. In BW, Michele was actually very good and much like Rachael, but in XY, again too high pitched but also a bit too valley girl like now.

said at 1:01 PM on Sun Jan 18 2015
Moreso the case than anyone else TPCi ever hired for their reanimation process, and even when she wasn't pinned as a replacement body for Lillis she still pulled through all her own as the other major recurring chararacter she inherited. It's her faithfulness in this portrayal that has made this role a guiding light through these ceaseless criticisms.

@falcosparverius Well her real voice doesn't sound all that similar to Rachael's, but she definitely does justice imitating her Misty and Jessie performances. Too bad she couldn't deliver the same imitation with Veronica Taylor's May.

1. Rachael Lillis - Her performance is probably the highlight of her career in 4Kids. She's able to pull of a feminine but short tempered firey redhead character. My absolute favorite Pokemon moments with Jessie are the "Old Hag" line and the encounter with Seviper. After Rachael left Jessie lost her authenticity.
2. Michele Knotz - I don't know what to say, like most TPCi actors she started out good but as time went on she became worse. She now sounds like a mixture of Rachael and her Battle Frontier performance. And she sounds fake when Jessie emotes.

#1) Rachael Lillis (EP002-AG145; M01-M08)-

Perfect. From Jessie's anger, to her sadness, to her comedic scenes, to her serious emotional scenes like in "Snow Way Out" or in "Ignorance is Blissey," Rachael cannot be beat as this character. It's too memorable and she captured the character so well...irreplaceable. 10/10

#2) Michele Knotz (BW001-142 > AG146-AG192 > DP001-191 > XY001-Present)-

Mediocre. She did a good job in BF emulating Rachael Lillis' Jessie, but as the season progressed, the voice got overly high-pitched, goofy, and cartoony...particularly in "Duels of the Jungle" as seen above. In DP, the voice got bad, though: overly cartoony, extremely high-pitched, and way too goofy-- hard to take seriously and it really ruined "Crossing Paths" for me. In BW, she was very good and I could take her seriously and in comedic scenes-- almost as good as Rachael. In XY, however, Michele has hit a new low as Jessie-- now, she sounds like a caricature of her DP Jessie, and the tone has devolved into that of a HS valley girl cheerleader, as well as the high pitched voice getting more obnoxious than ever. 5.5/10

The more recent dub comes under a lot of (in my opinion, deserved) criticism for the quality of the "voice matches," but Michele Knotz does a freakishly uncanny Rachel Lillis impersonation. If the rest of the principal cast had voice matches of this quality, the new dub would be much better off than it is now. Rachel nails the acting better, but Knotz's Jessie is perfectly listenable and probably the best of the recasts.
said at 7:51 PM on Sun Dec 8 2013
I definitely prefer Rachel Lillis take. She's one of my favorite VAs seeing how versatile she is and Jessie was one of her best gigs I think.

Anyway, why do I choose her? Pretty much the same reason as others have said. Other than growing up with her voice, she genuinely sounded evil, classy, mature, and slightly sophisticated and those are traits I think Jessie's character was meant to posses. I especially enjoyed when Jessie got angry. You can feel chills when she was beyond pissed off (Like when Serviper made the grave mistake of biting Jessie's hair lol). So yeah, Rachel is easily my favorite of the two.

Michelle's take is just too out of character to me. She sounds too much like a teenage valley girl at times but another thing that exacerbates her role is definitely the lines she has to say. During Sinnoh, I noticed that Team Rocket adopted a VERY annoying rhyming type of dialogue and it just made me dislike the voices more.

I will give Michelle the benefit of Unova for the short instance when we were dealing with a serious Team Rocket. She sounded great as a serious Jessie until they went back to their old ways. So I will say that I possibly could like Michele a little more if they writers gave Jessie better lines.

With that said,Rachel gets my vote hands down but Michele has potential and I'm sure she'll get it down as X & Y progresses.

Rachael Lillis was perfect as Jessie. Michelle Knotz did a good job taking over, but that doesn't really show in the clip where she sounds way too high-pitched, which is unfortunately what the voice devolved into by Sinnoh. In Unova, however, Michelle has done a dead-on Rachael Lillis impression, which is great.

Funny that I've always felt Team Rocket were really given the better replacement voice actors when TPCi took over, while the protagonists got the worst replacements to me. The dialogue is another story for TPCi Team Rocket, though. xD.

Anyway, Michele Knotz's Jessie is no exception. I admit, I am pretty annoyed whenever she yells in that high-pitched valley girl esque-tone, but she does a pretty good job with the role (all things considered, especially for the current dub). My real complaint is that Jessie sounds like a real airhead at times and really infantile compared to how she used to sound. She is probably the best replacement in this role, though.

Now Rachael Lillis was pretty much perfect. She was a lot less cartoony than Knotz, and boy did she sound Jessie's age (25). Her voice had the right tone, inflections, and was a very good English equivalent of Megumi Hayashibara's performance in the Original Japanese version of the anime. All around an excellent performance.

All in all, Michele Knotz is pretty good, but Rachael Lillis is still definitely Jessie's best voice actor.

I vote for Rachael Lillis. Her voice for Jessie makes Jessie more fiery and meaner like a villian in an anime should be. Jessie's current voice now sounds whinier and more annoying. It can even be hard to hear what she says at times. She doesn't sound evil anymore at all. Rachael Lillis was superb as Jessie, especially when she gets angry. Even during the more sad scenes like when she encountered her old friend Blissey, she was still excellent as Jessie. I hope Rachael reprises that role again so I can go back to loving one of my favorite characters.

Jessie was my favorite villain of this show, and Rachael was my favorite Jessie.

Michele just made Jessie too whiny, and in fact, Jessie was not like that; she was a character who had an iron fist. Rachael was able to give Jessie more depth, especially when the show would often depict Jessie's softer side, or her reminiscing scenes (Ignorance is Blissey).
Rachael will win my vote and my heart.

Rachael was nothing short of awesome in this role. She gave Jessie lots of energy and a right balance between serious and crazy while still sounding unique and memorable. She helped make the character as we know her today.

However, Michele is a pretty good replacement, capturing most of what Rachael brought to the character and basically delivering a pretty spot-on imitation. She's probably the only member of the replacement cast to successfully take over their role pretty seamlessly. My only gripe is that her voice can sound a bit exaggerated, and she plays up the character's wacky side a bit too far (though some of that can be blamed on the writing), sounding a bit sing-songy in the process.

I seem to be one of the few people who can't stand Michele's version- to me it sound nothing like Rachael's. It's far too high-pitched, squeaky and obnoxiously girly sounding. Rachael had a far better range which represented Jessie's personality well.

Michele's version is especially grating when you compare it to her Japanese voice, which is much deeper and a big contrast compared to the majority of female anime characters. When I watch the dub now, Jessie just sounds like a huge airhead which ruins it for me.

Jessie/Musashi, the more malicious and evil portion of TRio (well now in Best Wishes!/Black and White they're pretty competent/evil but you know what I mean).

1) Megumi Hayashibara- It's very fitting and phenomenal. Expresses Jessie's rage very well and malicious behavior, bossing around poor James/Kojiro and Meowth/Nyasu all the time. It's actually very scary at times, but in a good way. The bossiness and all included.

2) Rachael Lillis- Once again, excellent. That cackle, that evil malicious attitude, that low pitch resembling Hayashibara greatly. It's always consistent, matches Jessie almost perfectly, and while starting off a bit wooden in Early Kanto, really settles in nicely around Mid Kanto to the beginning of Battle Frontier.

3) Michele Knotz- Very good performance. It is too high-pitched for my taste at times, but it's an excellent replication of Lillis and is easily one of the less jarring voices in TPCi English. It's gotten much better in BW as well, but it seems a bit stuck-up at times and when she yells, it's fake-sounding.
