Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Dexter with sound clips and images.
Dexter is the name of Ash Ketchum's Pokedex. The Pokedex was invented by Professor Oak and provides information about Pokemon such as basic descriptions, moves and type. Over the course of the series Dexter has received various upgrades and models to constantly adapt to new Pokemon discoveries and regions.
In the English dub version of the Pokemon anime series, Dexter was first voiced by 4Kids voice actor Eric Stuart for the Kanto, Orange Islands and Johto sagas.
For the Hoenn saga Dexter had a voice change and was voiced by 4Kids voice actor Rachael Lillis.
For the Battle Frontier saga Eric Stuart once again voiced Dexter until Pokemon USA took control of the anime. Dexter was then voiced by Bill Rogers.
For the Sinnoh saga Dexter had another voice change and is voiced by Michele Knotz.
For the Unova saga (Besh Wishes) Dexter is voiced by Marc Thompson.

A tricky Voice Compare since the voices are a mix of male and female voices. My nostalgia and bias picks Eric Stuart's voice as my personal favorite, but the others are pretty good too.Jackson_H

As for my opinion on the other VA's (Bill and Marc), Bill sounds both rushed and forced. And then there's the current one, Marc Thompson. He sounds quite bland and generic, but is fitting for the role.

I actually don't mind Marc Thompsons version. But it comes down to Eric & Rachael, I'm going with Eric purely because of Nostalgia, but also I think a males voice suits Dexter. Rachael for a female Dexter version though definitely

The Pokedex is so hard to rank
1. Eric Stuart - Nostalgic and some very good acting
2. Rachael Lillis - Misty's voice, no doubt although the voice was a little lower when Dextette made it's debut
3. Marc Thompson - Perfect for the Unova Region
4. Bill Rogers - Decent impression of Eric's voice, but it sounds really awkward
5. Michele Knotz - She has been used way too much in the TPCi dub

For the male, I'd have to say Eric.
As for the female, Michelle. Rachel sounded a bit too robotic.

1. Eric Stuart (This voice is just too classic to pass up)
2. Rachael Lillis (Decent female version)
3. Michele Knotz (Nothing special, but it's workable)
4. Marc Thompson (Interesting new take, but vocal delivery often sounds awkward)
5. Bill Rogers (Good imitation of Eric's voice, but the delivery is very bad).

I like Eric's Dexter the best. I think Dexter should sound like he did in the begining but you can't win them all.

Regarding Eric Stuart's Dexter voice, it actually initially sounded different in the older episodes, but then the reverb effect was changed due to Ash getting the Pokedex upgraded in "Who Gets to Keep Togepi." The version presented in this clip is the "upgraded" version. Still the same voice actor nonetheless.

Hate to say it, but Rachael and Bill are harmful to the ears to me. Eric and Michelle are the ones for me, but I'd have to say Eric.

Dexter is rather off voiced by Eric Stuart than anyone. And that's the truth! The double truth, Ruth. I also give little props to Rachel.

ok I just want Team Rocket and Ash's voices back. I thought Misty, May, Brock etc. It doesn't matter cuz their outta the show anyway but Dexter??? It's getting a bit ridiculous lol.
