Deidara

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Deidara with sound clips and images.

Deidara is the youngest member of Akatsuki. Quick to be angered and annoyed and very hot-headed.

In the English dub version Deidara's voice was first heard in the first Naruto anime series in episode 135. He was voiced by Quinton Flynn. For the English dub version of the Naruto: Shippuden anime Deidara is voiced by Roger Craig Smith.

EDITOR'S OPINION

Even though he only voiced Deidara for one episode IMO Quinton Flynn was great and probably could've played the character for Shippuden. I guess the English TPTB just forgot about previously casting the character since it was only one episode, or maybe wanted a slightly different approach to the character. Roger Craig Smith's voice is also great and IMO fits Deidara's personality very well too.

I like both voices so this Voice Compare for me is a tie.

I say Mikey Kelley would be the best if he ever voiced Deidara.

I think they both did a good job. It's weird how comparing them they sound a bit different but when I don't think about it, they sound the same.

lol Also cuz Roger voices Sonic and Quinton voices Silver. =P

Both Quinton and Roger do a fantastic job, though I think I prefer Roger just a little more as I think his voice seems to fit Deidara's personality better.

Quinton Flynn was good with what little he had, especially since there wasn't a clear visual of Deidara at that point, but if he still used that voice when the character was revealed in-full, I wouldn't find it anywhere near as fitting. There's also too much of a resemblance to Iruka.

While I don't think that Roger's trying to be "sexual" was necessary, he still fits Deidara's personality and appearance better. Thus, he gets my vote.

@Axx That's his style and personality based on his mannerisms; he's obviously meant to represent the stereotypical flamboyant artist, like Launch Octopus.

@jackson Really? I don't think the Japanese producers/directors would have anything to do with how the English ones handle their versions due to the tremendous amount of collaboration and hardwork it would take if that were the case. Sure, the English dubs would improve, and you do sound reasonable enough, but I personally find that to be a bit too outlandish.

@diabloking True, but IMO both portrayals fit Deidara rather well and it's a lot of effort for VAs to distinguish between different roles, hence why I remain neutral and say Quinton=Roger here.

i like Roger Craig Smith better because he sounds more like the Japanese voice actor where as Quinton Flynn sounds more like an evil Iruka

lol actually yes in this case it did mean the ENGLISH dub producers, voice directors, etc

my bad :D

I believe the Japanese TPTB only get involved with English casting when it comes to main characters

e.g. Oda (creator of One Piece) approved of Funimation's English dub cast

Maile Flannigan also had a meeting with some Japanese executives when she got the part of Naruto.

I prefer Quinton Flynn. He's also Axel from Kingdom Hearts 2 and Reno from Final Fantas: Advent Children
