Kai Shiden

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Kai Shiden with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Mobile Suit Gundam

At the onset of the One Year War in UC 0079, Kai Shiden lived in the space colony Green Oasis in Bunch 1 of Side 7. Kai Shiden is tall and lanky in stature with a mop of gray hair, and his snarky and sarcastic personality often gets him scolded or slapped around. After surviving the Zeon attack on Side 7, Kai evacuated to the Pegasus class assault carrier SCV-70 White Base to make his escape. However, due to a shortage of crew and soldiers to staff the battleship Kai was asked to become a pilot to help defend the White Base from the frequent Zeon attacks. Kai was assigned to pilot the RX-77-2 Guncannon mobile suit. The unit he would remain in charge for the rest of the One Year War.

After the One Year War ended Kai Shiden became a freelance journalist and investigative reporter. In UC 0087, during the events of the Zeta Gundam TV series

Kai was first voiced by Eddie Friersonin the english dub of the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy released by Bandai on VHS in the late 90s.  The english dub was not included in the 2002 DVD release,

Kai is voiced by Richard Ian Cox in the early 2000s english dub of the Mobile Suit Gundam TV series by the ocean group which aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami block, but never finished its run.

In the English dub of Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta Gundam Kai is voiced by Scott Roberts.

Checking out Jaburo's cutscenes, I actually prefer the sound of Erickson's take to Cox's.

What was Scott Roberts aiming at, in all honesty? Some of the Zeta actors tried matching their returning character somewhat to the original voice actor. Here, we go from RIC's snark to a guy who sounds like Nappa.

@Damolisher Kai had changed a LOT between the original series and Zeta. He'd become almost Bond-like.

 3 Shout Outs!
Definitely Richard Ian Cox. He sounds naturally young and could act out the whiny young kid while keeping his snarky personality.

Eddie's version works too, but it sounds a bit too nasally. On a side note, I like Bridget Hoffman's Miharu that was also in the clip.

Scott Roberts sounds like a young James Bond, which kinda fits Kai for the Zeta anime.

Matthew sounds very close to Richard. No complaints.

Overall, I'm voting for Richard.
