I find it interesting that Marvel Heroes has two voices for this character. Notably, JPK's is deeper & more intense, whereas JYB's is more relaxed. In general though, I'm not sure why they recast the character. & also who came first.

@huzaifa_ahmed John Paul Karliak was the first person to voice him, then was replaced by JYB. Something similar happened with Deadpool. Deadpool had a different voice in he Beta version of Marvel Heroes before they replaced him with Nolan North for the final product.

Going from the top left to the bottom left, I think...

Jon Rubinow's too growly and too gravelly here when he shouts, but his speaking voice is okay.

Mikey Kelley sounds like a muscle bound thug like character, meh, he's done better before.

Peter Dobson sounds intelligent, but way too plain & generic.

I'll have to agree with the popular vote here: I think Loren Lester's performance can sound intelligent, smooth, courageous, fearless, he's got it all in his take, while sounding well rounded.

Yuri Lowenthal just sounds far too regal and fancy for Iron Fist, it's pretty awkward to listen to at times.

Impressive take from Greg Cipes here: instead of lapsing into the usual stock Beast Boy voice he does for many roles, he does something very different here, sounding pretty wise and intelligent beyond his years as Iron Fist.

John Paul Karliak sounds a bit too old, but his performance isn't half-bad, with some polish it could work for Iron Fist.

As much as I like Johnny Yong Bosch (in fact I think he's one of the best VAs in the LA talent pool, I have a great respect for him), as Iron Fist I feel he just sounds like a wise variation of his Ichigo/Yu Narukami/various other roles he's done, and I don't find anything unique about his take at all- I know he's a trained martial artist, so it fits, but it just gets a *little* annoying hearing him everywhere at times, because it lacks distinction from his other roles. He's not bad at all, but his take is just not my thing here.

As for Brian Drummond, I like that he showed some range as Iron Fist, can't hear any Vegeta or Ryuk there at all, but he sounds a bit too cool in the role for comfort. Not bad, but just not what I had in mind for the part, though.

Overall, I have to say Loren Lester has my vote on this one: he just nails every aspect of Iron Fist to a tee for me.

@WrightWay If you've watched enough of his work, you'll know that Johnny's vocal range is quite limited. It'll bother people to varying degrees (I personally don't mind it, because I think he does a great job of selling the character's personality regardless), but it's something you'll have to accept.

@nikipotamus
No, you're fine, you weren't rude at all- I happen to agree with you on that point: I still think Johnny's a really good voice actor despite that like you, but I honestly find it hard to believe he's the *best* on many of these VCs, because I feel like there were other actors who provided much more unique, distinct performances than he did for some roles. This is a case where I feel Loren Lester stood out and did that, for example.

Johnny tends to show more range as children like Nathan Adams and Nobita than he does for anyone who is a teenager or adult, IMO, in those cases I can always tells it's him & it distracts me at times.

@WrightWay Yeah JYB seems to suffer in a few of these voice compare's for the main reason being that he doesn't sound very distinct. His regular voice that he often uses is a good fit for most characters but it doesn't fit every character. It also seems to guarantee him leading some polls or ranking very high on others(this one for example)
GreenGoblin75
said at 9:38 AM on Tue Apr 18 2017
@Shaun Ince
I think it stinks that in almost every single comparison he's in, people seem to judge him on that. Like, I understand sometimes feeling that way, but on all his VCs there's at least one complaint about him using his normal voice.
Shaun Ince
said at 9:46 AM on Tue Apr 18 2017
@GreenGoblin75 Yeah. But it isn't a recurring theme through all of the voice compare's that he's in, but rather a set few. The Zero voice compare is where it's brought up the most. Maybe a little too much sometimes but that's just how it turned out.
WrightWay
said at 10:22 AM on Tue Apr 18 2017
@GreenGoblin75
Well, the thing is, often times a more distinct, unique voice from an actor/actress can often help make their performance stand out a bit more from the crowd, whereas when you hear a similar portrayal from other roles the actor has done for another character, it can get a bit distracting because it's hard to picture one character as another character, at times. And this is absolutely not limited to JYB at all, that being said, but I can absolutely see where the criticism comes from in this regard.

@Shaun Ince
I think your analysis is on point, really, that's what I've been observing as well.

@WrightWay The reason I really like Johnny here is his natural martial artist attitude. Also while I don't want to disrespect the artists & fans of Iron Fist, I think IF being an actual Asian person instead of "white savior of Asians" is a cool idea, & naturally I'd like an Asian actor in that part, if possible. Obviously Danny is white, but I just mean in theory, is all.

For my pick, I chose Johnny Yong Bosch. While playing "young, heroic types" is nothing new for Johnny, here, I'd say it fits (maybe it's because I always imagine Iron Fist having a "younger"-sounding voice). Like his performance as Sanada from Sengoku Basara, Johnny balances Danny's lighter and more serious emotions so that he doesn't come off as too bland or too over-the-top, making him more interesting to listen to.

My second favorite would probably be Greg Cipes; say what you will about "Ultimate Spider-Man", but at least we can say that Greg did a good job as the Teenage Iron Fist. Loren Lester does pretty good too, though am I the only one who thought he sounded a lot like Sean Schemmel in that clip?

While the other voices are fine, the Super Hero Squad voices leave a lot to be desired. For Mikey Kelly, I'd say it was a case of miscasting (the 90s surfer dude voice just comes off a bit jarring for Danny). As for Yuri Lowenthal, I'd blame that more on scripting / directing, since *if given better material* I could actually see Yuri pulling off a good Iron Fist.

I'd also actually be interested in hearing Sean Schemmel as Iron Fist: if his Nail performance in Dragonball Z Kai is any indication of his talent with warrior-like roles outside of lighthearted ones, I think he could pull off this role pretty well.

"You're a mad dog that needs to be put down... and I have the best kung fu. So bring it."

To honour his Upcoming Netflix show, I'm listing my Top 5 Favourite Iron Fist Voices:

5. Brian Drummond/ John Rubinow
4. Greg Cipes
3. John Paul Karliak
2. Loren Lester
1. Johnny Yong Bosch

Future VA Suggestions:

Like Autovolt, I suggest Two Other Power Rangers Alumni, David de Lautour (RJ from Jungle Fury) and Daniel Southworth ( Eric from Time Force). Ironically, they both voiced Vergil.... small world...

Anyway, David de Lautour would work for a more comedic Iron Fist, while Daniel Southworth would work for a Darker, more Mysterious version.

For a Celebrity voice.... I think George Eads might work, using a similar voice to his Barry Allen voice.

I also recommend Bryce Papenbrook, Alessandro Juliani, Mike Erwin and Alan Ritchson.

You know there's something I really like about Johnny Yong Bosch as Iron Fist, I think its because of all the people who have voiced Iron Fist in the characters entire history, JYB might be the only person here who is a trained martial artist, I mean he a Power Ranger too. There's something authentic about his take and its really cool to see him voice a Marvel character.

Loren Lester is a really close second, it's great to see Loren in a new major role like Iron Fist, he has this really cool older, mature and stoic approach to the role.

Greg Cipes is like perfect for a young teenage version of Iron Fist. It's cool to see him play a more disciplined character instead of the goofy slacker character he usually is cast as.

John Paul Karliak is pretty good for the few lines he has.

Mikey Kelly sounds like he's trying to emulate Diedrich Bader....I'm not really liking the voice at all.

Yuri Lowenthal sounds way too goofy for the role.

John Rubinow and Peter Dobson are forgettable.

I'm going to vote for Johnny Yong Bosch on this one, however I do really like Loren Lester and Greg Cipes's performances too.

BONUS: Since we got Adam Park as Iron Fist, how about Tommy Oliver himself? Jason David Frank as Iron Fist? I could also see Kyle Hebert, Skip Stellrecht or Matt Hill pulling off Iron Fist well.

Brian Drummond is pretty good as Iron Fist especially for a bit role like this though I all keep hearing is traces of his Double Diamond from MLP FiM in the voice and performance.

Still I'd rank him around JP Karliak.

A pretty tough decision since I'm personally not fond of ANY of these voices, but if I had to choose, I guess it'd be Loren Lester, even though he's only average at best, like his Robin and (to a lesser extent) his Green Lantern. On the other hand, Greg Cipes works as a younger version of the character.

I can't really judge the others (clips are pretty short), but none of them come close to Loren or even Greg.
