"One with the environment. -- One of the most valuable skills in espionage. You can gear up with the best swag out there-- Put on camo, tech, weaponry... But it is the unteachable skill to belong anywhere. The other edge of what is the unfortunate truth: You must first belong nowhere. "

Not Much to say, Here are my Top 5 Favourite Voices for The Natasha Romanov Black Widow:

5. Laura Bailey (' Marvel Super Hero Squad Online'/ Lego Marvel Super Heroes' Performances> 'Avengers Assemble'/ 'Ultimate Spider-Man' Performances)
4. Ashleigh Bell
3. Saffron Henderson
2. Olivia d'Abo
1. Vanessa Marshall

Future VA Suggestions:

Rena Strober Would be Excellent as Black Widow; I imagine a more Mature, Russian accented version of her Esmeraude voice would be a Lovely fit for Natasha.

With her husky voice, Stana Katic would also be solid as Miss Romanoff, using a voice similar to her Talia al Ghul (with or without the Accent).

I also Recommend Colleen Clinkenbeard, Yvonne Strahovski, Emily Bauer and Kate Magowan.

See. people forgot that Black Widow was born and raised in Russia so she will have a strong accent. So my choice as followed:

(1)Olivia D Abo: 100% Perfect Russian accent.
Saffron Henderson, Salli Saffioti, JoEllen Anklam,Grey DeLisle, and Sarah Edmondson is also pretty good.
Lena Headey tried too hard but it's still decent.

(2)Vanessa Marshall: While her accent fluctuates a lot, It is still there and adds the fluency of her knowing two languages. Similar to Mila Kunis.
Nika Futterman's voice, also fluctuates.

(3)Laura Bailey is a great voice actress in general, but she don't put a accent into her characters that was born in that country. For instance: Her Chun-Li voice in SF4 and SF5 doesn't have a accent even through Chun -Li is born and raised in China.
and she is not the only one.
Ashleigh Ball is one, so is Alison Brie, Jennifer Carpenter, Clare Grant, Julianne Buescher,Catherine Campion, andDanielle Nicolet didn't use a accent for Black Widow.

So if i have to choose one. It would be Olivia. She got the accent and the seductiveness to make Natasha Romanoff /Black Widow work in voice and origin. The voice has to fit the character, regardless if you are good/popular Voice Actor or not.

@sexytyrant When Black Widows are taught different languages they are expected to speak it fluently including accent you wouldn't a very good spy if your accent was detectable. It has also been stated in the comics she doesn't have an accent when speaking English.

VC thoughts update

Julianne Buescher is my favorite. I like the slight Russian accent she adds and she does sound pretty seductive.

Laura Bailey is also pretty good. I loved both of her takes.

Vanessa Marshall sounds great too. Like Laura, both her accentless and accented takes are superb.

Vita Linder sounds pretty boss here. I love her accent and her dramatic delivery.

Saffron Henderson sounds pretty good too. Once again, I love her accent and her delivery.

I also enjoyed Olivia d'Abo, Salli Saffioti, Nika Futterman, Catherine Campion, Grey DeLisle and Sarah Edmondson in the role.

Lena Headey, JoEllen Anklam, Ashleigh Ball, Danielle Nicolet, Clare Grant, Jennifer Carpenter and Alison Brie are good, but I prefer the others.

Vanessa Marshall is easily my favourite Black Widow, why because she goes the extra mile to do a version of Natasha with and without an accent and sounds really sexy, mature and unpredictable in the role. I'm not really a stickler for the Russian accent but it does help make her sound more distinct but I hold nothing against the performances that don't have it, I mean she is a spy in the end, she should be able to be versatile accents.

Olivia D'Abo is easily the best fully Russian accented version of Black Widow. She sounds very sexy but also very compassionate which is nice.

Saffron Henderson is such a natural fit for the role, she needs to reprise again.

Laura Bailey definitely sounded a lot better in the Super Hero Squad Show game than in the Jeph Loeb cartoons. She is a natural fit but I feel the direction holds her back...a lot. She's sound like the usual no fun allowed one girl teammate which she unfortunately is.

Julianne Buescher has a very slight accent, it's not bad but it's kinda average and nothing special.

Grey Delisle-Griffin works but nothing too special.

Nika Futterman's accent isn't that great.

Lena Headey doesn't sound right to me, the accent and pitch which is a shame since I'm sure she could do the role better.

Ashleigh Ball sounds awesome as a younger version of Natasha I think she could work as an adult version.

Catherine Champion sorta sounds a little like Michelle Ruff except she's too monotone.

Danielle Nicolet really has a fantastic vocal range, she sounds pretty good.

Jennifer Carpenter and Clare Grant sound different, Jennifer being deeper and huskier and Clare being lighter sounding but both feel a bit flat in the role....though Carpenter is a lot better acted, which helps since Black Widow had a bigger role in Confidential.

JoEllen Anklam's take might be the Yelena Bolova based on the blond hair and for that version it sorta works even if she is a bit young sounding.

However Sarah Edmondson sounds incredible as Yelena, I never knew Lori had range this good. If Yelena ever got her own compare, she's got my vote for sure.

In the end I'm voting for Vanessa.

BONUS: I could see Tabitha St. Germain making for an awesome Black Widow, imagine her Maria Hill voice for an Russian accent but for an American sounding version something like a more emotional Soma Peries. I'd like to see Tara Strong have a whack at Natasha, she has a deeper voice, it'd be a nice character for her to do, maybe Monica Rial in her lower range could work too?

I say Edmondson did a good job, but I'm not sure if its a fair comparison since she voiced a different person from all the other actors. It's like comparing Will Fredile's Batman Beyond to all the other Batmen.

That being said, I think I'll still stay in my three way tie between Marshall-Futterman-Bailey

Personally, a lot of the VAs using the Russian accent all blend together like they're all the same. Just saying that's how I see it. But nevertheless, I like most of them, especially Olivia & Nika.

My favourite is Laura since I've gotten used to hearing her voice as Black Widow over the past year.

Vanessa does well so she is 2nd.

Jennifer was pretty good, her voice isn't too distinct so it's not a 'perfect' fit. Her performance is what really made her enjoyable, she was playful, caring yet could sound like a badass when needed. I like how the movie portrayed Widow, was a pretty likable version.
One down side to Jennifer is some lines didn't sound as natural as they could have but I think she deserves another chance.

1. Vanessa Marshall- Sounds authoritive, but also good at emotional moments. And she can do both the Russian and American accents really well.

2. Nika Futterman- Probably the best Russian accented- Black Widow here, and her voice fits the character really well and sounds possibly the most authoritive voice here.

2. (Draw) Laura Bailey- She had alot of authority in her voice, but came off as bland and generic in Avengers Assemble. But like Adrian's Iron Man and Troy Baker's Hawkeye, improved alot in Lego Marvel Superheroes.

3. Olivia d'Abo- Does a really good Russian accent, and, like Nika, her voice fits the character well, but Olivia still sounds a bit generic.
said at 11:09 PM on Sat Dec 14 2013
American Accent: Laura Bailey is the best for having the most authority to her voice, but Vanessa Marshall(who slips into the Russian accent occasionally) is a close second and Ashleigh Ball is great for the younger version.

Russian Accent: Nika Futterman wins this one, no doubt about it. She felt the most consistent, fits the comics character best, and delivered the accent flawlessly. Saffron Henderson is also good, she sounds like Nika at points but the clip's quality is really bad.

Nika Futterman gets my vote.

I've loved Laura Bailey since Saints Row 3 (that game introduced me to her and Troy Baker), so I was kind of interested in hearing her as Black Widow. Much like Troy Baker's Hawkeye, I was really disappointed. She should have stuck with her SHS take, that at least had some pizazz (however you spell it). Don't mean to sound rude but she sounds half asleep in Avengers Assemble. The character being written as a Mary Sue certainly doesn't help. Uhhh, overall my vote goes to Vanessa. I also liked Olivia and Jullianne as well. Seriously Laura can do much better than this.
said at 7:33 PM on Fri Oct 4 2013
@DravenRoth994 I don't get why everyone is calling Laura bland or bored. She's giving a stiff, serious performance because that's the character she's been given to play. The script writing and voice direction call for Laura to sound like that, whether we like it or not. With different (better) direction, she'd sound like a match for Vanessa Marshall.
said at 7:59 PM on Fri Oct 4 2013
@Galactic_Cyrus I doubt it given that the actors are told to channel the actors from the movie rather than do their own thing (Well Roger and Laura in particular), but lets hope that will change. If it does, I'll give the show another chance.
said at 2:50 PM on Mon Dec 30 2013
@DravenRoth994 I admit, she improved a lot in Lego Marvel Superheroes. The fact that she is given more(not to mention better) material to work with and isn't such an insufferable know it all who never makes mistakes like Steven Seagal certainly helps.
said at 3:09 PM on Mon Dec 30 2013

@DravenRoth994 That part kind of sounds like laura always makes mistakes and doesn't know much. LOL
said at 11:09 PM on Mon Dec 30 2013
@GothamRed Yeah, I should have worded that better. LOL My point is that I dislike the way Black Widow is written on AA as the character who is great at everything and has no character flaws(none that I know of at least). I hate that type of character. If you create a character, make them falliable, give them some weaknesses, make them LOSE some battles. Otherwise, it just causes suspension of disbelief and people can't really relate to the character. The only exception I will make to that is Kyle XY because for one, that's actually part of his character, he was created to be that way(and even then he is still an interesting character). There is also the fact that Black Widow is barely on the show, so Laura doesn't have much to work with and her character is not fleshed out enough as a result. Granted, none of the characters have been fleshed out. Apparently on a kids show, no one likes character building or continuity. Ok rant over. I'm starting to like Laura more.
said at 8:25 AM on Thu Sep 12 2013
This one is a bit harder for me to pinpoint. I usually love Nika Futterman's voice and I thought it fits Widow. I also really liked Vanessa Marshall and wish she'd do more work as the character. Laura Bailey is off to a good start and I'm sure she'll still do good.

@PsychicVoiceSpy I think I would like Laura even better than Vanessa Marshall if she was given a bit better material. From what I can tell Vanessa had dialogue that took itself seriously while Laura has gotten somewhat stereotypical cartoon-chick dialogue. I personally think Laura has a more memorable voice when compared to Vanessa in these clips, and if it weren't for the difference in script quality I would probably much prefer Laura, but that's just me. I may change my vote later once I compare the two more closely.

As several people, even here pointed out, she's a spy and wouldn't do much good if she couldn't hide her accent and that in the comics, it's been established that Black Widow does speak English without an accent, so the movies and cartoons that really didn't get that wrong.

To be shamed for liking something that doesn't exclusively cater to live-action critics and trend-following fanboys is simply idiotic.

Well sure, what the work is based on is made solely for little children, which is equally misguided, but my point still stands.

He does like it for what it is. He just wants to see her do a less kiddy take on the character; is that so wrong?

@TheVengeanceKnight The way he worded it, he made it seem like the quality of Bailey's performance was automatically lower for being in a production aimed at children. A show, movie or video game can be targeted at children and still have great voice acting.

I'm going with Vanessa Marshall.

@coolgeek176 I think Catherine Champion is definitely the worst. Her voice is really indistinct and her acting is absolutely awful.

@coolgeek176 Danielle Nicole is okay. I'm sticking with Vanessa Marshall.

In the comics, it's mentioned that Black Widow doesn't have an accent and speaks fluent English.

With that in mind, i think Ball and Marshall are the best because they stay true to the character. Though Marshal does change accents.

1. Olivia d'Abo
2. Vanessa Marshall
3. Nika Futterman
4. Catherine Champion
5. Grey DeLisle

Olivia's probably my favorite, but Salli, Nika, Saffron, JoEllen, Grey, and Peg were really good too. I never understood why Vanessa changed her accent frequently. Lena had a weak accent, but was decent. Ashleigh attempted no accent, but was decent nonetheless. Catherine was the only one I didn't like. Seriously, can you GET more bland and uninteresting?

@PurpleWarrior13 Though I'm really looking forward to hearing Laura Bailey's take on the role. Should be interesting, and she has a perfect voice for this kind of character.
said at 1:03 AM on Thu Jan 24 2013
@PurpleWarrior13 I was right. I REALLY enjoy Laura's take on this character! The accent was great, and the voice was distinct. It's easily on par with the best of these.

@PurpleWarrior13 Clare and Danielle while a tad generic-sounding, are both great in the role with their acting and tone. Although I think it helps define this character by giving her an accent. Otherwise, anyone doing her voice is just gonna sound like Wonder Woman. Fortunately, all of these, except for Catherine, Ashleigh, Danielle, and Clare have attempted this accent. Vanessa changing her accent was a very interesting approach to the character, and really shows the creativity of the director. I'm looking forward to Laura's take on the character in Avengers Assemble. I hope she either continues what Vanessa Marshall did, or does the accent all the time. It would've been cool for Scarlett Johanson to attempt the accent, but it's clear her voice is very damaged (it certainly sounds like that), and it might've been a strain to perform such an accent, and awkward since this kind of Russian accent is best performed with a smoother voice, and Scarlett has a very husky-sounding voice. Though you never know. Nika Futterman and Saffron Henderson have pretty husky voices too, but not quite THAT husky.

Olivia's still my winner though, with Vanessa and Laura close behind. Clare's probably the best of the Natalia voices performed without an accent.

Danielle Nicolet and Clare Grant were okay, but Vanessa Marshall is better, so I'll stick with her.

@TheVengeanceKnight Changed my vote to Vanessa Marshall, though the others I mentioned were good too. Not really feeling it with Danielle Nicolet. :-/

with Vanessa and Asleigh you see the downside of the movies, because of them now no one does Widow with a russian accent anymore

@GothamRed A good spy shouldn't even HAVE an accent.
said at 8:40 AM on Mon Feb 13 2012
@D.A.V.E. well that all depends on where they are and who they're talking to, when talking to someone who knows they're a spy i think it's safe to speak naturally.
said at 4:00 AM on Sat Mar 3 2012
@GothamRed Exactly. So, it makes sense that they are not limited by an accent. Vanessa at least does switch between accents in Avengers.
said at 4:33 PM on Mon Oct 22 2012
@GothamRed Except the comics make it clear that Black Widow doesn't have an accent. When she learned english, she learned to do it fluently. So speaking without an accent is speaking naturally for her. So the movies and the recent cartoon are actually staying trur to the character.

She's a Spy after all, an accent would give her away. Having an accent wouldn't make sense.

Closer to the comics =/= better. By that logic, BTAS Mr. Freeze is inferior to pre-90s comics Mr. Freeze.
