Black Panther / T'Chaka

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Black Panther / T'Chaka with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Marvel Universe

T'Chaka was the Chieftain of the Panther Clan and the father of T'Challa (whom is the current Black Panther) and made his Comic Book debut in Fantastic Four #53 in August of 1966. T'Chaka was the Black Panther before T'Challa and was the ruler of Wakanda until he met his end in battle (though his killer differs on the continuity but the original culprit is Ulysses Klaw). T'Chaka was a strong warrior and track not too mention a beloved leader to his people in which he strongly believed in his duty to protect his people. However while T'Chaka is normally favorably depicted in the story-lines that he is in but he does have a tendency to have plenty of good old fashioned pride in him in which it is often deemed to be a flaw of his.

Today on the Marvel Universe VC section we take a look at the father of the current Black Panther... T'CHAKA! Let us begin...

Beau Weaver- I know this is basically a cameo but this is a really awkward miscast as Beau barely made any attempt at sounding all that different from his Mister Fantastic voice which in this case just sounds kind of off to put it mildly.

Dave Fennoy- Now this on the other hand works very well with the role as Dave's voice and performance suits an aging strong-mannered but kindly father and ruler rather well. So in other words its a fine example of Dave's work...

Jonathan Adams-  Jonathan's take on the role is a bit younger (but to be fair the show does justify it since T'Chaka is younger in this show) but Jonathan's performance suited T'Chaka's strong mannered nature rather well. Granted Jonathan seems to be playing up how prideful T'Chaka can be but still it is a good example of Jonathan Adams' work on the role nevertheless.

Hakeem Kae Kazim- Hakeem's performance for the role is good as it does suit how T'Chaka is a kindly but traditional ruler rather well. But my problem here is the voice which is not exactly bad per say but is a bit too young for the role as he doesn't sound like he is all that much older than T'Challa in this show to be honest. But other than that detail Hakeem's work on the show is not bad though.

Overall I am clearly going with Dave at first, Jonathan and Hakeem at 2nd with Beau at a distant third.

 4 Shout Outs!
One thing I really love about Dave Fennoy's take other than how commanding and fatherly he was in the role, is that he sort of sounds like a deeper and older version of James C. Mathis III's version of Black Panther/T'Challa. It's a bit strange considering Mathias did not take up the role of Black Panther till a few more years later. Still it's a neat coincidence and in a way, I think it adds a bit more to his already great performance.

Jonathan Adams is also a natural fit for the role of T'Chaka, his performance and accent are great but I feel he's a bit too royal sounding, I don't get as much of a sense that he also is The Black Panther.

Hakeem Kae Kazim was good but honestly, I feel he would have worked better as T'Challa than T'Chaka.

Beau Weaver sounds rather forced and miscast IMO.

Overall I'm giving this one to Dave Fennoy.

BONUS: I think Blu Mankuma could make for an awesome T'Chaka, I could also see Keith David fitting really well.

I'm gonna go with Dave Fennoy for T'Chaka, though Jonathan Adams and Hakeem Kae Kazim are also good.

I'm Pretty sure that Hakeem Kae Kazim could voice The T'Challa Black Panther soon.

Dave Fennoy easily. His voice is the most powerful and royal. You believe that this guy can kick your ass and rule a country. Sadly Hakeem Kae Kazim will probably get more votes because he is in AEMH

Beau Weaver- Yeah it's his Mr. Fantasic voice basically but he did fit it with the deep voice he was trying to do well.

Dave Fennoy- Perfect casting for him. It kind of reminds me of James Earl Jones as Mufasa a bit.

Johnathan Adams- Probably the best one hee but as I'm pretty sure he'll get votes I'll pass on giving him mine as I don't want to change my vote later since Weaver will most likely have none.

Hakeem Kae Kazim- If he were older hat voice would have been perfect since he is African himself as his name reveals.

Overall my favorite is Johnathan Adams, then then Dave Fennoy, then Hakeem Kae Kazim, then Beau Weaver. I'm going to give Weaver a vote for effort sine I'll probably be the only one to vote for him.
