Ah yes today we shall start the new VC section for the classic Rumiko Takahashi  series "Maison Ikkoku" so we shall start this off with the main male lead of the series YUSAKU GODAI! When Viz's English dub of the series started in the 90's Jason Gray Stanford voiced the role. Jason's voice for Yusaku is a nice youthful moderate-toned male voice which is genuinely fitting for the role. And whether its Yusaku being an unlucky dope or a sympathetic man whom hopes to romance the love of his life Jason's performance was genuinely suitable for Yusaku here.

Though Viz did for some reason put their dub of the show on a hiatus for some time but when Viz resumed their dub while they still used Ocean Studios back then some roles where recast and Yusaku was one of them. In the 37th episode of the series when the dub came back from a Hiatus Brad Swaile took over the role here whom I will immediately say was a perfectly suitable substitute. Granted young male roles whom can either be "calm and sensitive" and/or "used as comic relief" are roles that Brad has been kind of typecast over the years (until recently) but it still works. Brad's overall performance definitely suits Yusaku as a well-meaning kind young man but he has a hard time trying to be patient with his "surroundings" and his lack of luck in life. Overall both of these guys did great with the role so I am pretty much making this a tie.
