Miss Clavel

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Miss Clavel with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Madeline

Miss Clavel is one of the main characters in the Madeline storyline whom has been in the series since right from the start. Miss Clavel is a catholic nun who is the teacher of the Boarding School with twelve students in which the smallest one is Madeline (though Madeline's mischievous behavior is often a great source of stress to Miss Clavel). However despite all the headaches that Madeline has caused her Miss Clavel genuinely cares for her and the other girls very much in fact she seems to be quite able to sense if any of the girls are in danger. Miss Clavel is a prim and proper Nun whom not only cares for her students but she is also her students voice of reason and often tries to calm them down and think rationally when they are upset.

Today on zee Madeline VC section we take a look at Madeline's caring though a tad bit overstressed teacher... MISS CLAVEL! Let us begin mes petites!

Judith Orban- Judith's voice and performance definitely suited Miss Clavel's caring nature just fine. Not only is Judith's performance for the role just fine when Miss Clavel is speaking but she is also a pretty good singer as well (even if that song can get overly repetitive). But still Judith's work on the role is a fine example of the early Madeline specials.

Stevie Vallance- Stevie's attempt at the French Accent was a bit thick but Stevie does a pretty good job in making it fit with the role rather well. As for Stevie's performance it also suited the role well as it did suit Miss Clavel's fretful though caring nature pretty well and is a pretty good example of Stevie's voice work.

Whoopi Goldberg- I know that plenty of people found the idea of casting Whoopi as Miss Clavel but personally I didn't mind as I actually thought her attempt at the French accent was pretty good. While it may seem a bit strange to hear Miss Clavel with a fairly lower voice but I got over that pretty quickly as Whoopi's performance does suit Miss Clavel's caring nature rather well.

Overall I am not too sure who to go with here as all of these ladies did pretty well with the role here.

1. Stevie Vallance- She sounds a very motherly but sometimes stressed teacher with a nice singing voice. She also has my favorite French accent.
2. Judith Orban- She does a pretty good job at sounding caring and fretful, but something seems a little off. However, I enjoyed her singing voice the best.
3. Whoopi Goldberg- Despite her voice being lower, she does a good job sounding motherly and singing. I wish she was in the movie because I would have loved to hear more of it.

I haven't heard Jane Mortifee in Madeline in Tahiti, so I cannot say anything about her.

 1 Shout Out!
1. Stevie Vallance: Vallance is the most natural sounding of the trio, plus her singing voice is very fitting.
2. Judith Orban: Orban has the French accent down perfectly but there is something missing in her performance.
3. Whoopi Goldberg: Goldberg is a tad too low but has a good singing voice for Miss Clavel.

@lillypills Did you know she not only voiced Miss Clavel but also voiced Genevieve and wrote all the songs for the episodes? It earned her an Emmy.

I didn't know Whoopi Goldberg was Miss Clavel in My Fair Madeline. That's amazing!

Sadly, I wasn't too familiar with the original voice. Therefore, my vote goes to Vallance...

I genuinely like all 3 of them.
But, for me, at least....

Judith Orban, does the best speaking voice.
Stevie Vallance, does the best French accent.
Whoopi Goldberg, does the best singing voice.

 1 Shout Out!
1. Stevie Vallance - Quite motherly sounding, and very fitting, Straight up nostalgia here for me
2. Whoopi Goldberg - Sounds nothing like her regular voice or other roles. Fits Clavel's motherly nature.
3. Judith Orban - Haven't heard her Clavel as much as Stevie's but I suppose she had some potential

Very impressed with Whoopi's take, considering we don't usually hear anything like that from her. She really should be allowed to branch out and do more than just her default voice.
