Voice Compare » Madeline » Madeline
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Madeline with sound clips and images.
Madeline is the eponymous character of the Madeline series as she is the smallest of the 12 little school girls in two straight lines. Madeline is a student in Miss Clavel's boarding school in Paris, France in which she is known for being a very brave and free-spirited little girl she is also very mischievous (which is why she is known for stressing out Miss Clavel but Clavel is normally very patient with her.) Madeline is also friends with a young boy named Pepito who is the son of the Spanish Ambassador whom they did not get along with at first but did end up becoming very good friends (and is also implied to be a love interest for her). Madeline is a very well-meaning girl even if her mischievous behavior does sometimes get her into trouble and when Miss Clavel and the girls are at the local Zoo, when the Tiger scares the other girls Madeline is known for walking up to the caged tiger and say "Pooh-Pooh".

EDITOR'S OPINION
Today on the Madeline VC section we take a look at the eponymous character herself... MADELINE! Let us begin...Marsha Moreau- While Marsha's voice has lowered a bit over the course of the time she spent voicing the role her voice still worked with the role rather well. Marsha's performance also suited Madeline's energetic and even her rather feisty persona rather well and is a fine example of the voice work in the early Madeline specials.
Tracey Lee Smythe- Tracey's voice does work for a rather energetic and precocious young lady (even though her attempt at the French accent is the lightest though.) As for Tracey's performance it does suit Madeline's free-spirited performance pretty well but while her work on the role is a bit above average in general it does work with the role pretty well.
Andrea Libman- I always did find Andrea's voice for her roles (especially back in the 90's) to be ever so adorable and this is no exception (and she also does the French accent pretty well). Andrea's performance suited Madeline's sweet and adventurous persona very well and was a fine example of the voice-work in the show.
Chantal Strand- Anyone who has heard Chantal's work as Bijou in Hamtaro can all too easily picture Chantal in a Madeline production so basically Chantal is a natural as Madeline. Chantal's voice and performance for the role definitely suited Madeline as a precocious and mischievous though well-meaning little girl quite well and is a fine example of her work.
Overall I am going with Andrea and Chantal the most with Marsha at a very close second with Tracey as a pretty good third.

If I were to rank them
1. Andrea Libman - I rank her #1 because her take on Madeline is basically nostalgic for me.
2. Marsha Moreau - I know she is a good Madeline too but I never saw the original series. Also when she sings "I'm Madeline" it sounds a little forced
3. Tracey Lee Smythe - Umm just like Moreau I never heard her take on the role
4. Chantal Strand - It's basically her Cassie voice from Dragon Tales, but with a French accent.

They're all good in their own ways. Honestly, none of them are bad.

This is a tough one. They're all great, so I don't know which one to choose...

I don't remember Andrea's Madeline voice being that high
I recall in Playhouse Disney promos it sounded more like Emmy from Dragon Tales but with the accent

It's not that so much that IMO than the idea that Andrea has a very stilted delivery with her French accent as Madeline, and comes off as a tad bit forced and fake that makes her my weakest voice for Madeline (not that she's bad...she's pretty good too). Moreau is my pick for best because her voice is very distinct and sounds very genuine and like what Madeline is and her mannerisms fit Madeline like a glove.

@JSD I'm watching an episode of the 1995 series and Libman's Madeline is basically Emmy with the French accent

If I had to rank them:
1) Marshal Moreau- Say what you will about the French accent, but it sounds very genuine and comes off as the most authentic and was always entertaining to listen to.
2) Tracey Lee Smythe- Probably the most authentic French accent, and almost on par with Moreau.
3) Chantal Strand- A little overdone and the French accent is a bit strained like Moreau but it's still great.
4) Andrea Libman- Kind of speechless here...it's not a bad voice at all, but the accent is really stilted and it's pretty annoying and grating sometimes. Still pretty good though.

Chantal Strand sounds like a French version of Cassie
Andrea Libman nailed it

@MatthewC17 Does anyone know if Chantal Strand's voicing of Madeline sounds very similar to Bijou from Hamtaro?

@carlitosbug Oh I am quite familiar with Hamtaro and I definitely think that Chantal's Madeline is quite similar to her Bijou voice.

@Pokejedservo
I'm pretty sure Pokejedservo's correct here. On another note, could I PM you about something in the Pokemon VC regarding a certain character if it's alright with you. I have a request I'd like to make if it's alright with you: I just wanted to ask permission if it's alright to do so first.

My vote's on Libman if only because I'm endlessly tickled by the sound of a French Fluttershy :}

@CatsTuxedo Yeah I'm going with Andrea as well
I never saw the original Madeline but I did see the 1997 and 2000 series
I do recall when they aired on Toon Disney they used "Hats off to Madeline" and the show was shortened to "Madeline"

French Fluttershy? That sounds interesting when you put it that way! It's just not my preferred take for Madeline, though it's pretty good as well. :D
