 1 Shout Out!
Mari Iijima: I don't think I've ever seen a character's seiyuu also perform him/her in an english dub, but Mari suits the character in both versions. Her voice and performance nicely captured the emotional and innocent aspects, without sounding too whiny or immature. Her singing voice was also fantastic. Good performance on both counts.
Rebecca Forstadt: Never watched a whole lot of Robotech, but Rebecca also has a suitable voice and performance. Admittedly her rendition could come off as too whiny and grating in places, but still captures a certain innocence and youthful quality. While her singing voice isn't the best, it's alright for some songs(My Time to be a star). Solid performance.
UVA: A prime example of why the voice-work in the "Clash of the Bionoids" dub of Macross is so infamous. Extremely stilted acting, almost entirely devoid of emotion, and it all feels like somebody mindlessly reading lines from a script.

Both Rebecca and Mari are good in the role, Unknown is too stiff

Rebecca gives the character a sweet innocent voice, which I thought worked well. It's her singing that was a little lackluster.

Mari was alright in English. Actually, her thick accent worked well since the character IS supposed to be foreign (though Chinese instead of Japanese), and she sounded pretty sweet and innocent too, though sometimes you couldn't tell exactly what she was saying.

Mari Ilijima easily hits the part perfectly for Minmay, in English as well as Japanese. The songs she sung were influential and iconic and made Macross stand out so well for it's musical accompaniment. Plus in both languages the emotion she displayed for the character as the show progressed became more difficult and developed properly making you feel sorry for her.

Rebecca Forstadt really is not bad, but my issue with how she played Minmay made her come across like a whiny, petulant child that made it hard to invest in when her songs became a little repetitive and her way of playing Minmay made the character come across as borderline unlikable.
