Thorin Oakenshield

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Thorin Oakenshield with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Lord of the Rings

Thorin Oakenshield is the King of the Dwarves and rightful ruler of the Lonely Mountain, which had been taken over by Smaug the Dragon. He is quite stern and haughty and not particularly inspiring or clever as a leader. He has a habit of sitting down and singing about gold, which is most definitely not a sign of his bitterness about his kingdom being taken.

While Conried's Thorin is competently acted, the softness of his voice doesn't quite demand attention as someone who is supposedly a king. Revill has a harsher, hardier sound for Thorin that better fits his aged and stern persona, so he gets the upper hand here.

I would go with Hans Conried (even though I like him as Captain Hook) If Richard Armitage had a voice over for Thorin in a video game or something, I would vote for him.

Hans Conried is slightly more fitting IMO, he sounds more like a leader which is what Thorin is. Clive Revill sounds good and fitting in his own way, but he comes off as a bit generic whereas Hans is more interesting to listen to.

As far as an incarnation that's more inspired by Peter Jackson's movies, I could easily see Steve Blum fitting the role perfectly, in fact there actually were times where I thought Richard Armitage himself sounded like Blum. Another recent idea I got was Kirk Thornton, who I think would be really fitting as well.

My vote is going to Clive as he does indeed sound like a grumpy old dwarf leader.

Han was also pretty good too (RIP to him).

Clive Revill, but Hans Conried is good too. I think it would be interesting if Richard Armitage voicing Thorin in a video game or something, he's great in the movies.

@Bartimaeus I think Steve Blum or Kevin Michael Richardson would be great for an Armitage-inspired Thorin.

@TheVengeanceKnight Agreed 100% on Steve Blum, there were times where Armitage's voice even reminded me of him.

Both are good fits, but Conried actually did alot better than just that clip suggested. When he was angry or stern, he did a rough voice pretty well.
