Simba Cub

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Simba Cub with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Lion King

What else do we need to say here. Simba is the hero and main character from the Lion King Franchise. As a young cub, he was full of energy and eager to be the next King.

Before we get into my picks though lets clear up who voiced who when for those out there not aware, and because it can be confusing at times...

The original voice of the young Simba was the teen heartthrob, Jonathan Taylor Thomas. JTT, as the girls called him, voiced the young Simba in the original movie and in the Kingdom Hearts video game.

In the original movie though, the singing voice was provided by Jason Weaver, or J-Weav as he was known when he was putting out CD's. There was one cut scene however that re-appeared in the special edition of the movie in which the higher pitched, Evan Saucedo provided the singing voice. The fourth and final voice of the young version of Simba was provided by Matt Weinberg in the Lion King 1 and 1/2.

Simba is by far one of my All-Time Favorite Disney characters and I absolutely LOVE his voice. The wierdest thing is that I love his voice pretty much no matter who is doing it.

The only version I really don't care for is Evan Saucedo just because it is too high pitched for me. I am a huge JTT fan but I also love Weinberg's take on the young cub.

In the end though, I have to go with the singing Simba as done by Jason Weaver! I know it seems wierd to pick one of the singing voices but that voice in that song is forever imprinted in my head as Simba and that song is one of my all-time Disney favorites.

I pick Jonathan, because his unique voice suited Simba's spunky attitude to a T. He gradually lost that voice as he got older. By the time he starred in "I'll Be Home For Christmas", it had dropped enough octaves that you never would have guessed he had previously voiced Simba. But full marks to Matt. His Simba voice is almost identical. As for the singing voices, Jason is easily the better of the two. It's almost hard to believe that wasn't Jonathan singing. Evan, due to being too shrill and voice (and partially due to the not great sound quality) comes off the weakest.

Of course I'm going with Jonathan Taylor Thomas. His voice is just so Simba! It's memorable, has lots of energy and packs an attitude!

That said Jason Weaver does an excellent singing voice. Another reason I listen to "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" from time to time.

Matt Weinberg is a decent follow-up to Jonathan but it just lacks the spunk he had.

Evan Saucedo is the weakest as the singing voice just does not fit Simba at all.

 1 Shout Out!
1. Jason Weaver: His singing voice is honestly iconic as Simba, in my opinion. "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" was phenomenal.

2. JTT: Perfect as the speaking voice.

3. Matt Weinberg: Pretty good as the speaking voice.

4. Evan Saucedo: A little too high-pitched.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas does best as Simba Cub's regular voice & Jason Weaver does best as his singing voice.

Matt Weinberg is pretty good at doing Simba Cub's standard voice, but is a little flatter in comparison, and Evan Saucedo is unfortunately very high pitched & a tad effeminate at times.

 1 Shout Out!
1. Jonathan Taylor Thomas: Thomas' performance is the most memorable one. He gives Simba his energy and attitude which makes the character.
2. Matt Weinberg: Weinberg is a good replacement for Thomas, and it shows because of how similar their voices are.
3. Jason Weaver: Weaver's voice is good for Simba's singing, but there's elements of the Jackson 5 there.
4. Evan Saucedo: I honestly thought it was a girl singing as Simba in "The Morning Report". Way too high pitched and forgettable for my taste.

I'm going to go with Jonathan Taylor Thomas as he was the main speaking voice and I rarely go with signing voices. Jonathan gave a lot of personality to the young Simba.

Matt Weinberg was a good replacement voice for Simba.

Jason Weaver's singing voice for Simba is really good, I can understand why some people are voting for him. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" is a classic for a reason and also Weaver gives off a bit of a Jackson 5 vibe in his voice and performance.

I'm not really fond of Evan Saucedo's take. It's just too high pitch for Simba and doesn't have that same sound everyone else went for.

I'm going with JTT but Jason also did a fantastic job.

Jonathan: as the animators said, Jonathan gave Simba his attitude, his character. The others were good at imitating him but Jonathan is the young Simba just as Matthew Broderick is the adult.

Jason weaver only did the singing in the movie, but Johnathan Thomas did the normal voice acting. It was a punch combo

I gotta go with Weaver. The charisma and attitude in his singing is what I always think of with Cub Simba.

I agree with the editor here: Jason Weaver, just for that song! Though Johnathan Taylor Thomas was perfect in the speaking role.

Matt Weinberg was just really average, and Evan....what were they THINKING?

Evan doesn't count for singing nor does Jason but he was cool really.

Jonathan Number1 though Matt did not bad.

When I first watched the special edition version and I heard Morning Report I thought a woman was singing Simba's part. Apparently I was wrong o_O. JTT is my fav but I wish Jason would've had a chance to voice Simba.

1. Jonathan Taylor Thomas - Just so rememberable, his voice suits a cute and cocky young Simba.
2. Jason Weaver - It's clever how he can sing in such a way that it still sounds like Johnathan.
3. Matt Weinberg - I haven't seen this film before, but from the sample, he sounds near enough the same, but slightly higher pitched.
4. Evan Saucedo - No way, that voice is terrible for Simba. It sounds nothing like him really.

Thomas is of course the best. Saucedo is a little too deep for Simba, but he has a great voice. Weaver and Weinberg sound pretty good as well.

@Blue Paratroopa Too DEEP? If anything, he was too falsetto!
