Kung Fu Panda Kung Fu Panda

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Po with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Kung Fu Panda

Po is the main character of the Kung Fu Panda series whom has been in the series right from the start. Po is a young Panda in his 20's who is the adopted son of Mr. Ping a Goose who is the owner of a local Noodle Shop. Po is a classic example of a big lovable oaf and is also a classic example of being the "Chosen One" as Master Oogway has deemed him to be the Dragon Warrior even though Shifu and the Furious Five (especially Tigress) were rather against that decision at first. However Po has proven himself to be a capable martial artist and hero in his own unconventional way in which while he does openly embrace his role as Dragon Warrior he still does try to make time for his dear foster father Mr Ping.

Alright folks the first Kung Fu Panda VC shall be for none other than the leading panda himself... PO! Let us begin!

Jack Black- Jack maybe typecast-ed as a big loud lovable oaf especially in his screen acting roles but his voice work as Po is a fine reason why he is known for doing these roles rather well. Jack's performance for the role definitely suits Po's various comedic moments and his various serious moments as well and is a fine example of the voice work in the movies.

Mick Wingert- Mick's work on the role is one of the most impressive cases of "Stand-in" performances I have ever heard as Mick definitely sounds a lot like Jack Black. Mick's performance was also very good as it suited Po's "Lovable Oaf" persona very well and is a fine example of the voice work in the show.

Eric Loomis- This is another pleasant surprise as this is another fine example of a "Stand-in" performance as Eric also did a fine job in sounding like Jack Black. As for Eric's performance it was also pretty good as it does suit Po's "Lovable Oaf" persona rather well and its another fine example of how good Eric's Vocal Mimicry skills can be.

Overall I am going with a tie as while Jack Black is great in the role, Mick and Eric do exceptionally well in mimicking him.

1. Jack Black is brilliant as Po he brings the comedy and the more dramatic side and brings his his best in all of the films

Come on, Jack Black was MADE for this role! Of course he takes the cake here! He captures the fanboy-like nature of the character and makes a perfect combination of goofball and serious warrior. No questions asked.

The other two do decent impressions of him but ultimately don't hold a candle to Jack.

Jack Black is the best Po, but both Mick and Eric sound very close to him.

Jack Black was born to voice Po. This is easily my favourite role of his of all time. Po falls into his usual typecast but what made this performance and character compelling is just what they had which a lazy, fat panda learning kung fu voiced by Jack Black which sounded like a ridiculous premise yet they actually had some really deep moments, lessons, philosophy and cool fight choreography thrown into the mix. Jack's eagerness and the energy he brought to the role really helped made Po such an endearing character in my eyes.

Mick Wingert is like the absolute perfect voice match for Jack Black and yet also makes Po his very own character too which is sweet.

You know it's funny, I once thought Eric Loomis could have been a spot on voice match for Jack Black long before I found out he once did Po. I mean yeah I hear his Tony Stark in this role maybe more than Jack but it's still really close and he got the attitude down which is nice.

They're all great in my books but Jack Black was made for this and for that I've got to give him my vote.

My vote goes to Jack Black, but it's uncanny how similar both Mick Wingert and Eric Loomis sound to him. Everyone is really good.

Jack Black IS Po, but Mick and Eric both sound a lot like him. Sticking this compare into the "Everyone Does a Great Job" category (among with the Puss in Boots and Yogi Bear compares).

I normally don't do this, but because all three of these actors have such an amazing likeness to each other's voices, I'm going to say that I really like all three. Stellar jobs from everyone.

Jack wins without a doubt though the other 2 are good stand ins.

Jack Black, obviously. Though Mark Wingert is a dead-on accurate PERFECT imitation. It really sounds like the same voice and performance at several points! If you didn't see the credits, you probably wouldn't be able to tell it WASN'T Jack Black. Eric Loomis also does an incredible Jack Black impression, but it's noticeably deeper than Po's actual voice.

Considering Mick Wingert and Eric Loomis are impressionists, they hold the role INCREDIBLY well, but I'm definitely going with Jack Black on this one.

Personally I think since Mick is doing a damn good impression takes more skill then someone using their own voice without really changing it. Voting for Mick.

@Music Meister

Voice acting is not about the voice, it's about the acting, as any voice actor would tell you. Acting is about creating your own character rather than imitating someone else's. Anyone can imitate, but it takes real skill to create.

My gut instinct is to go with Jack, but Mick does an uncanny impression. It's hard to tell the difference.

Awesome, been looking forward to this VC!

Anyway, it's a very close call but I'm going with Jack Black because he maybe typecast-ed like Pokejedservo mentioned: but what can I say? He is PERFECT for Po whether he is funny, serious and of course a loud lovable oaf. :)

Mick Wingert however does get an honorable mention as he is probably the best stand-in I have ever heard, seriously.

@TheVengeanceKnight Kind of a weird one. Then again there's two Marsdens and they aren't related.
