Voice Compare » Inspector Gadget » Dr. Claw
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Dr. Claw with sound clips and images.
The second in our series of Inspector Gadget compares gives us the evil Dr. Claw. Dr. Claw is one of the rare examples within this franchise of a character who not only had the same voice actor in both seasons of the original show but also in the series pilot. However, apparently Don Francks originally replaced Welker for the main series, and recorded about 35 episodes before Welker was brought back and was able to re-record most of Franck's episodes before they aired, except a few, 4 to be exact. The voices are very easy to distinguish from each other. Of course, you may recognize that Welkers Claw voice sounds very similar to both his Darkseid and his un-vocoded Soundwave voice. Finally, in Gadget and the Gadetinis Brian Drummond took on the role.

Frank Welker wins of course, he made the character his own with his distinct voice. But for what its worth Don Francks did do a fairly good imitation, probably not the best but not too bad either. Not a fan of Drummond as Dr. Claw, I prefer his role as Vegeta personally.

I have never seen a source say anything other than Welker for DrClaw so i would need to see proof of this before I take it too seriously.

Nice comparisons! But actually, I'm pretty sure Frank Welker DIDN'T do Dr. Claw for both seasons of the original show. For the second season, when recording of Inspector Gadget moved from Canada to Los Angeles, I believe Welker was replaced (along with the voice of Penny, unfortunately, who would never get another actor half as good as Cree Summers). If you compare Doctor Claw from season 1 and 2 closely, there's little doubt that the season 2 version is played by a different actor... Dr Claw doesn't sound nearly as powerful or gleefully menacing as Welker played him. In season 2, Claw mostly just sounds annoyed with Gadget; whereas in season 1, he sounded like he truly enjoyed being the world's worst villain. Which is part of what makes Welker such a great voice actor. (Not really certain of excactly who played the role in season 2, but I'm guessing either Louis Nye or Andy Goldberg. Anyone know anything more about this?)
For the record, I find Brian Drummond's Dr Claw pathetic. Yeah, I guess he's trying, to an extent, to mimic Welker, but he doesn't even come close. Drummond's voice sounds way too stressed and not at all deep enough. He almost sounds like he's having trouble talking like that! Frank Welker, on the other hand, made it sound effortless and natural. Go Frank!

I'm just disappointed that none of the clips are of Dr. Claw saying "I'll get you next time, Gadget! Next time!"

I'm going with Frank Welker but i have to say that Brain Drummond did a great job of copying Frank Welker's Voice
