Today on the Hanna Barbera Classics VC section we have a little something for this famous neanderthal superhero... CAPTAIN CAVEMAN! We shall start this off with the late 70's series "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels" in which he was voiced by the late great Mel Blanc. Mel has had a bit of a history with Hanna Barbera over the years (especially with the likes of Barney Rubble and Cosmo Spacely) but Mel's Captain Caveman voice is probably one of the gruffest voices Mel ever done which does work for the role here. Mel's performance for Captain Caveman definitely had a wild and energetic feel but it does work on how Captain Caveman is at heart a lovable goofy guy whom happens to be a incredibly strong superhero as well. Basically Mel's performance as Captain Caveman is another classic example of Mel's work.

While most of Captain Caveman's appearances were voiced by the late great Mel Blanc his initial appearance in the 2010's namely as a Special Guest in a episode of Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. in which Jim Cummings gets to take over the role here. Now I am normally quite fond of Jim Cummings' work and he is quite possibly one of the best vocal mimics (among other skills) in the industry but this is only an okay example of his skills. While Jim's Captain Caveman movie does have a good sense of gruffness in a suitably goofy voice for the role here. However Jim's voice for Captain Caveman is a bit too high for the role which is a little off but aside from that Jim's work for Captain Caveman is not bad but I have heard better from him. Overall neither one of these voices for Captain Caveman are bad but I am easily going with the late great Mel Blanc this time.

I would have to say Mel is the best. Jim in second place since he makes the character come alive with more emotion than Chris.

I think in terms of the voice, Chris' take it closer to Mel's than Jim's was.

Vote still stays with Mel though.

Jim and Chris got fitting voices but neither really have the energy that Mel did

@Music Meister It's just like the Yosemite Sam compare. All decent impressions, but just missing that certain charm & energy that Mel had.

Blanc's CAPTAIN CAAAAAAAAVEMAAAAAAAAN line seals the deal for me. Therefore I vote for Mel Blanc.

Mel Blance sounds a lot more like a caveman + he made the character what he is. So therefore, I'm going with him.

Jim does a really great impression but doesn't capture the same feeling as Mel's performance.

Jim Cummings was a good impression, but I'm sorry, his "Captain Caaaavemaaaaaan!" sounded awful. No one can do it better than Mel Blanc did.

I think Mel is great as Captain and Jim does a great impression.

Question, why is it that the Harvey Birdman versions of the characters never added to these calls? They are done faithfully to the original versions and they aren't labeled as parodies, so shouldn't they technically fit?

I'm going with Mel. Jim did a great job too.

I prefer both of them

Their performances are so inspirational.

Neither are bad

They both did a great job on the character though I have to go with Mel Blanc as he did a fantastic job and made the character sound more realistic, loud and wild

Jim Cummings does an impressive version of the character too it sounds similar but you'll notice a few subtle changes it's more high pitched and not as gruff

But both did very well here :)

Mel Blanc made the character more lovable. Though Jim Cummings is good at imitating the voice.
