Green Lantern

Voice Compare » Green Lantern » Sinestro

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Sinestro with sound clips and images.
Sinestro is the former mentor of Hal Jordan and the arch-nemesis of the entire Green Lantern Corps. He was considered at one point to be possibly the greatest Green Lantern of all time before his descent into evil. He would abuse his power as a Green Lantern to conquer and instill fear into others, and he was striped of his Power Ring and exiled by the Guardians of the Universe.

He then later wields a yellow Power Ring with similar powers of the Lantern Power Ring. His mission is to eliminate all Green Lanterns and even formed his own Sinestro Corps. He is one of the most dangerous and most powerful villains in the Universe.

Jeff Winkless was an awesome Sinestro. Don Messick and Vic Perrin were also good, but Winkless was a lot more memorable. With that being said, I also liked Victor Garber quite a lot. He's a perfect casting choice and his performance is excellent. Troy Baker, Marc Worden, Ron Perlman and Xander Berkeley also gave pretty awesome performances.

I recently found out that Don Messick DID play Sinestro after Vic Perrin. Take a look at this:

Don Jurwich (Recording Director)
Bill Callaway (Bizarro)
Stanley Ross (Grodd)
Dick Ryal (Captain Cold)
Bill Woodson (Narrator)
Ted Cassidy (Black Manta)

Thanks go to Marc Tyler Nobleman and his wonderful SuperFriends section and Dick Ryal for letting Mr. Nobleman post this interesting poster on his blog.

Man, this is a really, REALLY tough voice compare for me.

I wish I could vote for Miguel, Victor, Jason, Robert, Ted AND Marc! They're all so good!

In the end, I think Miguel is going to get my vote. He's got the best combination of power, pride and intelligence.

@TheVengeanceKnight Not gonna' lie, I feel like Ron is one of the weakest. I find his voice (at least in this clip here) to be pretty bland.

I think he could be great if he just played things up a bit more. He's just a little too calm and, frankly, comes off as bored.

Sticking with Garber, though Marc Worden was pretty good; as some have said, he sounds similar to Troy Baker's version.

Marton Csokas was also all right.

Mard Worden sounds much older than Troy Baker's Sinestro, which would fit the over all look of the character.

Personally I would liked it if James Arnold Taylor, Cory Burton, or Jeff Bennet voiced him back in Injustice Gods Among Us

I thought Marc was a little better in Lego Batman 3, he's alright overall. I think he could have been a bit more energetic. Chaos is right though, he sounds a lot like Troy's performance

Marc's delivery reminds me of Troy's a bit. I can hear a few differences, but I like it all the same!

Almost everyone here is enjoyable, with Miguel Ferrer, Robert Kraft, Ron Perlman, and Troy Baker/Marc Worden (they sound so similar that it's interchangeable) as my favorites.

I think I'm gonna go with Perlman. I dig his sinister tone and delivery, and his kind of...
gritty accent, compared to all the usual posh ones. Which I feel works considering his role as the rebellious ends justify the means, Guardians do nothing but sit on their asses villain. He should sound like a much more weary, frontline experienced, dark guy rather than another posh man.

I do think Simon Templeman could rock this role though, going by his performance as Loghain. Able to sound ruthless at times, mentorly at others, dark and yet sympathetic. Wouldn't beat Perlman, I don't think but I'd love to see the effort.

Victor Garber as Sinestro is a great example of pitch perfect casting.

My top picks for Sinestro are Victor Garber, Troy Baker, Robert Kraft, Jason Isaacs, and Ron Perlman. To me, the five of them capture how Sinestro is best; a sociopath who truly believes in what he is doing and things he is justified to lead the weak out of chaos, even when he's instilling chaos through his actions.

Troy isn't bad, I like how calm he was how nothing really bothered him. The accent was a nice touch.
Negatives about it is that there is no mentor feel and doesn't sound as powerful as I'd like.

In think Vic Perrin did very well as Sinestro. Although his voice was somewhat inconsistent, it really fit the character and his design.

I hadn't seen "First Flight" in a while and was fully prepared to vote for Jason Isaacs or Ron Perlman. Then I heard Victor Garber again and literally shrank back from my computer. He got my vote.

Ron Perlman, Ted Levine, and Jason Isaacs.

Ted Levine - I always thought he was very boring and never brought much to the character, which is something I rarely say for a DCAU voice.
Miguel Ferrer - I thought he was cool and even was my fav Sinestro for a while.
Xander Berkeley - A little bland as well.
Victor Garber - Excellent. Perfectly casted.
John de Lancie - Not doing much for me. He was entertaining, but that voice doesn't scream "Sinestro" to me.
Vic Perrin - Good back then, but compared to the other voices, laughable.
Robert Kraft - pretty good.
Marton Csokas - pretty good as well.
Jason Isaacs - When I saw he was cast, I was thinking Andrea was running out of ideas for VAs for Sinestro, and I have to admit, he's a hard character to get right. But he did good.
Ron Perlman - I would have never thought to cast him, but he is perfect. I still have to go with Victor Garber as my fav.

Ted Levine- He showed Sinestro's anger but is a but generic.

Miguel Ferrer- I like the raspy voice and he does have a mentor feel to him while still having the menacing performance. Wish he got to be him a little more.

Xander Berkeley- Again, I like the raspy voice. He played Sinestro very professial while still showing some darkness in the voice. Shame he never got to play Sinestro when he got the yellow ring.

Victor Garber- very good, he showed Sinestro's anger without over doing it and still gave him that professinal and mentor feel but had good subtle moments dhowing his manipulating side.

John de Lancie/Vic Perrin- Both have the same problem, their too cartoony and too sterotypical villain. Though I guess a defense for John is that most of the characters from GL in Duck Dodgers were exagerated versions of themselves.

Robert Kraft- Another good raspy voice and shows the anger in the character without yelling and he does feel menacing.

Marton Csokas- eh, kinda boring and a bit too calm.

Jason Isaacs- Love the slight accent, brings more to the character. His performacne is the most subtle...in fact he barley shows any darkness and lacks a menacing feel. Could have been better.

Ron Perlman- He was great, the calm somwhat raspy voice really fits for the professinal side and even the mentor side of Sinestro but fits well for his darker moments. Hope he gets to voice him when he gets the yellow ring.

Overall I like Ron, Robert, and Victor the most with maybe Victor a little more than the other two

Considering he was also Zhao in Avatar: The Last Airbender, I would say that Jason Isaacs would have no problem playing the evil version of Sinestro. ;-D

While Ron does sound like his Deathstroke a bit it still fits and is also different enough to be a different voice. I hope when be gets his yellow ring/if he does that he uses that voice to manipulate Hal.

I vote for Victor Garber. Like many villians like him, Sinestro doesn't believe he's doing anything wrong. In fact, he thinks he is the only one doing what is right and Victor gives him that voice. On one hand it sounds cold and calculating and on the other, he gives it a sound of a man who truly believes he is the only one doing what is right, even if that means doing horrible things.
said at 10:30 AM on Tue Mar 8 2011
Like most others, I vote for Victor Garber, but a shout-out must be made to John de Lancie and the menacing ham that he does so well. :)
