Green Lantern Green Lantern

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Sinestro with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Green Lantern

Sinestro is the former mentor of Hal Jordan and the arch-nemesis of the entire Green Lantern Corps. He was considered at one point to be possibly the greatest Green Lantern of all time before his descent into evil. He would abuse his power as a Green Lantern to conquer and instill fear into others, and he was striped of his Power Ring and exiled by the Guardians of the Universe.

He then later wields a yellow Power Ring with similar powers of the Lantern Power Ring. His mission is to eliminate all Green Lanterns and even formed his own Sinestro Corps. He is one of the most dangerous and most powerful villains in the Universe.

I really liked Jeff Winkless the most in the role. He sounds like a middle-ground between Don Messick and Vic Perrin. He sounds quite villainous and he does seem to be having fun.

Victor Garber is great at playing Sinestro as a misguided warrior and he is quite entertaining as well. He has some great chemistry with Christopher Meloni's Hal and he delivers his lines with conviction.

Don Messick also delivers a rather good performance. I really like how villainous and mischievious he sounds and out of the three classic VAs, he got the most to work with, but I still feel I like Jeff a bit more.

Darin De Paul has a really epic voice and I really can't get enough of his take. He just has a whole lotta presence and he seems to be enjoying himself. Also, is it just me, or does he sound a bit like Bill Martin's Claw???

Vic Perrin only played the character in the first four episodes of Challenge of the SuperFriends, and he doesn't do a half-bad job. In fact, I think it's rather solid. Too bad he got replaced afterwards.

I also liked Ted Levine, John de Lancie, Xander Berkeley, Marton Csokas, Ron Perlman, Troy Baker, Mark Hamill, Marc Worden and Tom Kenny in the role.

Miguel Ferrer, Jason Isaacs and Robert Kraft are not bad, but I honestly think they could have done better.

Tom Kenny is decent but a little too flamboyant at times.

Jason Isaacs had this one really good scene in the Emerald Knights were he was talking about not wanting to cause all the destruction, but doing it to purge the scum and filth in the universe. He had outstanding delivery.

1. Victor Garber really showed off both sides of Sinestro the tough general and the traitor which made his performance a real standout in the film

2. Jason Isaacs was really good in Emerald Knights would like to see him take on the evil side if he ever gets to reprise the role

3. Ted levine I really enjoyed his performance in DCAU showing off his anger and sinister side

Side note: Mark Oliver, David Wald, and Dan woren would make good choices for the character

"Labeled the first renegade of the Green Lantern Corps, I was banished to the underbelly of the universe, the Antimatter Universe... and delivered back into darkness. For the first time in my life -- I felt fear. And I was blinded by its brilliance. I believed fear to be a part of the chaos I abhor, but it was more controlling than all the willpower in the universe. And it would be mine."

Sinestro is a pompous, elitist fear monger and easily my favourite Green Lantern Villain. Hopefully, he will be done just in the Current DCEU films..... though I doubt the casting will be as good as Mark Strong.....

Anyway here are my Top 5 Favourite Sinestro Voices:

5. Ted Levine
4. Marc Worden
3. John de Lancie/ Victor Garber
2. Miguel Ferrer
1. Jason Issacs

Future VA Suggestions:

Maxwell Caulfield is an Underrated Voice actor who would be Fantastic as Sinestro, using an Older Version of his Alistair Smythe voice. I dare anyone to tell me that voice wouldn't fit Sinestro......

For a more Comedic Sinestro, David Suchet would be solid, providing a pompous, self aggrandising performance for the part.

I also recommend Kyle Hebert, Dominic West, David Dayan Fisher (aka Xaldin from Kingdom Hearts) and Ward Perry.

Vic is just kind of generic, nothing really standout about the performance

Ted is a little bombastic in his performance and sounds like he has a cold, but something about it oddly works to me for some reason. I don't know I just feel it has this charm to it.

John is clearly having a blast being deliciously evil here, and it's hard not to find him likable in his portrayal of the character.

Miguel has the calm and cool sound but also has a strong presence to the role with his distinctive rasp making him sound a little more threatening.

I like how Xander is more reserved in his portrayal which makes it sound more cold I feel in his delivery, which does oddly work I feel.

Victor has a lot of energy here and is savoring every line he has making it very entertaining to listen to.

Jason's distinct british accent sounds great with Sinestro I feel. My only real drawback with his sinestro I feel is that he never got to play the evil version of Sinestro, but other than that I don't have any complaints, I just think it's a wonderful performance from Isaacs and honestly, probably my favorite here.

Kraft is surprisingly chilling here. He has a lot of presence I feel in his monologue. I'd say the only problem I have is he sounds a bit too flat on a couple lines.

Martin is incredibly flat and nothing really stands out about him.

Ron is both reserved and threatening in his delivery, able to balance both out very well. Not much to say really, not one of Perlmans best roles but well done for what he had

Troy's accent works well with what he had to work with and he does have a lot of energy in the role, which works well with the more generalish tone they seem to be going for in the game.

Hamill I honestly feel is kind of miscast here, even for a lego project. I don't know something about the performance has never clicked with me, the delivery seems off and the raspiness sounds a bit too distracting I feel for Sinestro. It's not the worst performance I've ever heard, but something about it just doesn't sound right to me.

Marc has this great quiet sound but I feel he is a little bland on his delivery at times and other than his more quiet tone, there's not much standout about his performance. Nothing horrible, nothing great either.

If their was one thing that really went right with the 2011 live-action Green Lantern movie it was the casting of Mark Strong as Sinestro. He's exactly how I imagine Sinestro to sound and act like IMO. Sadly he's not here on the VC so I'm going with the man who comes closest to him who I believe is Jason Issacs. That man oozes regality and gravitas in his performance. I can totally here this Sinestro as both a hero and a villain. I hope he has another chance to voice him.

I really enjoy Victor Garber in this role, his delivery of that rant and exposition is excellent. I mean who would have imagined Martin Stein on The Flash could make for an excellent villain. The only thing holding back is maybe the lack of a English accent. Sterotypical maybe? but I feel it helps him sound more distinct. Overall Victor might be my second favourite.

Miguel Ferrer sounds fantastic, he's my third/fourth favourite. You totally get the feeling that he was a hero who betrayed his comrades.

Marc Worden is rather impressive too.

The rest aren't bad but to me, they don't click with me the same way as Strong, Issacs, Garber, Ferrer and Worden do.

Vic Perrin, Jeff Winkless and Don Messick sound kind of generic and unremarkable IMO. which is a shame especially since based on some of his performances like his Captain Nemo, Winkless would have been an amazing Sinestro.

Ted Levine sounds too much like Maurice LaMarche's Brain and frankly I just find he sounds silly and out of place in the DCAU which is a shame since he has an awesome voice in general.

John de Lancie is entertaining sounding even if he does sound a bit too much like Discord at times, I maybe would like to see how he'd handle a more serious version.

Xander Berkeley sounds like a creep which fits for the portrayal he's doing but I'm not liking it. Sinestro should have a more refined sound in his voice.

Robert Kraft has an epic sounding voice but it doesn't fit Sinestro unfortunately.

Marton Csokas I sort of hear as a voice match to Strong but he just doesn't do it for me the way Strong or Issacs does. It's an impression and nothing more.

Troy Baker I think he sounds maybe too pompous and regal for Sinestro IMO.

Ron Perlman I love as a actor and VA but he sounds kinda bored in this. Not like his very much epic sounding Slade/Deathstroke. I would have liked to see him tackle a more villianous Sinestro...alas.

Jason Issacs is who I shall vote for here.

BONUS: I could see VA's like Andre Sogliuzzo, David Lodge, Michael Dobson, Paul Cowling and Jon Avner all being excellent fits for Sinestro.

I think I'm gonna go with Perlman. I dig his sinister tone and delivery, and his kind of...
gritty accent, compared to all the usual posh ones. Which I feel works considering his role as the rebellious ends justify the means, Guardians do nothing but sit on their asses villain. He should sound like a much more weary, frontline experienced, dark guy rather than another posh man.

I do think Simon Templeman could rock this role though, going by his performance as Loghain. Able to sound ruthless at times, mentorly at others, dark and yet sympathetic. Wouldn't beat Perlman, I don't think but I'd love to see the effort.

My top picks for Sinestro are Victor Garber, Troy Baker, Robert Kraft, Jason Isaacs, and Ron Perlman. Ted Levine - I always thought he was very boring and never brought much to the character, which is something I rarely say for a DCAU voice.
Miguel Ferrer - I thought he was cool and even was my fav Sinestro for a while.
Xander Berkeley - A little bland as well.
Victor Garber - Excellent. Perfectly casted.
John de Lancie - Not doing much for me. He was entertaining, but that voice doesn't scream "Sinestro" to me.
Vic Perrin - Good back then, but compared to the other voices, laughable.
Robert Kraft - pretty good.
Marton Csokas - pretty good as well.
Jason Isaacs - When I saw he was cast, I was thinking Andrea was running out of ideas for VAs for Sinestro, and I have to admit, he's a hard character to get right. But he did good.
Ron Perlman - I would have never thought to cast him, but he is perfect. I still have to go with Victor Garber as my fav.

Ted Levine- He showed Sinestro's anger but is a but generic.

Miguel Ferrer- I like the raspy voice and he does have a mentor feel to him while still having the menacing performance. Wish he got to be him a little more.

Xander Berkeley- Again, I like the raspy voice. He played Sinestro very professial while still showing some darkness in the voice. Shame he never got to play Sinestro when he got the yellow ring.

Victor Garber- very good, he showed Sinestro's anger without over doing it and still gave him that professinal and mentor feel but had good subtle moments dhowing his manipulating side.

John de Lancie/Vic Perrin- Both have the same problem, their too cartoony and too sterotypical villain. Though I guess a defense for John is that most of the characters from GL in Duck Dodgers were exagerated versions of themselves.

Robert Kraft- Another good raspy voice and shows the anger in the character without yelling and he does feel menacing.

Marton Csokas- eh, kinda boring and a bit too calm.

Jason Isaacs- Love the slight accent, brings more to the character. His performacne is the most fact he barley shows any darkness and lacks a menacing feel. Could have been better.

Ron Perlman- He was great, the calm somwhat raspy voice really fits for the professinal side and even the mentor side of Sinestro but fits well for his darker moments. Hope he gets to voice him when he gets the yellow ring.

Overall I like Ron, Robert, and Victor the most with maybe Victor a little more than the other two

On one hand it sounds cold and calculating and on the other, he gives it a sound of a man who truly believes he is the only one doing what is right, even if that means doing horrible things.
