Even though I disliked the 2011 Green Lantern movie, Michael Clarke Duncan was an excellent choice for Kilowog. His deep gruff voice fits Kilowog to a tee.

Although Kevin Michael Richardson is typecast in this role, he's excellent as Kilowog.

Despite the lighter voice, Michael Madsen gives a great performance.

Henry Rollins, John DiMaggio, Charles Campbell and Diedrich Bader are also good.

I'm not a fan of Dennis Haysbert's take. Another DCAU performance that doesn't work at all. He feels kind of generic compared to the other takes on Kilowog.

1. Michael Clarke Duncan
2. Kevin Michael Richardson
3. Michael Madsen
4. Henry Rollins
5. John DiMaggio
6. Diedrich Bader
7. Charles Campbell
8. Dennis Haysbert

"You're all just rookiees right now. Rookies who have all been chosen to serve, protect, and obey. You've been recruited like others have for millennia cuz you all have the potential ta overcome fear. After I'm finished with ya, some of you might do just that...and some of ya might be able to learn how to use those power rings. Some of you might even get to be one of the sventy two hundred who will protect the universe as agents of the Guardians of the Universe. Yep, some of you might become members of the Green Lantern Corps. Then again, some of you might not. ANY questions? "

Kilowog is a Lovable Pooser.... What more needs to Be Said?

Oh...... I know Know.....

Here are my top 5 Favourite voices for Kilowog:

5. Charles Campbell
4. Henry Rollins
3. Dennis Haybert
2. Michael Madsen/ Kevin Michael Richardson
1. Michael Clarke Duncan

Future VA Suggestions:

I think Djimon Hounsou would be really Stellar as Killowog, using a rougher and Bousterous version of his Black Panther voice.

I also believe Mark Ryan would be solid, using a warmer and more energetic version of his Lockdown voice (plus a Cockney accented Killowog would be stand out in the best possible way).

I also recommend David Boat, Terry Crewes, Christopher Judge and Ray Stevenson.

I'm sad that they didn't use Green Lantern TAS clips for Kilowog, I liked him better when he had more of the Boston-ish (I think? Not sure) accent, it added a little more roughness to his character.

I love this big pooser, he's one of those gruff hardasses with a heart of gold characters, I cannot love a character like Kilowog.

My favourite one here is the late Michael Clarke Duncan. He just had a deep voice complete with a gruff snarl in his voice which fits his design really well, plus I loved MCD when he was alive and the fact he passed only a year after the Green Lantern movie came out really had me heartbroken. He was my first exposure to the role and still my favourite voice the character has ever had.

Of the actors here who are alive, Kevin Michael Richardson really shines here. Yes he's another big guy character that KMR's been doing a lot of these past couple of years but I feel much like with Bulkhead, he stands out from his usual lot of characters, he sounds cranky but also has his moments of support and even compassion. He carries on the spirit of the late MCD in his performance.

Michael Madsen is pretty good too despite how much lighter sounding, I can see what Starscreamsfan meant by his preference for gruff but not necessarily deep, though I lean more on the deeper sounding takes.

Henry Rollins is more deep and less gruff but he still works well.

Charles Campbell sounds really good too, I'm not sure if he's pitch shifted but he's appropriately gruff and deep too. He just needs more material to work with.

Dennis Haysbert feels kinda generic here, which is a shame since if he did a gruffer voice, he'd be really good.

John DiMaggio and Diedrich Bader are maybe typecast but they work even if they end up being unremarkable.

in the end I have to go with Michael Clarke Duncan. I miss you big guy. RIP.

BONUS: I could totally see VA's like Kevin Grevioux, John Goodman, Fred Tatasciore, Scott McNeil, Alvin Sanders, Paul St. Peter, Patrick Seitz and Rick D. Wasserman all being great as Kilowog.

As with the Thing voice compare, I think Kilowog's voice shouldn't be an extremely deep voice (which a lot of people think it's the best for a big character), but it should have a lot of gruffness, sense of humor and warmth. Michael Madsen is the perfect Kilowog for me. Yeah, his voice is light, but the gruffness is what sells it for me. Though I must admit that Kevin Michael Richardson and Diedrich Bader were also quite good.

1) Michael Madsen
2) Kevin Michael Richardson
3) Diedrich Bader
4) John DiMaggio
5) Dennis Haysbert
6) Charles Campbell
7) Henry Rollins
8) Michael Clarke Duncan

Don't know who to go with between Kevin Michael Richardson and Michael Clarke Duncan. I think KMR gives a bit more in the performance, yet MCD didn't have much to work with at all so...

Dennis Haysbert has the deepness, but he sounds kinda bland and bored.

Michael Madsen isn't that deep, but his raspy voice kinda works.

Henry Rollins has the right attitude, but the voice seems wrong.

John DiMaggio and Diederich Bader are good for a more comedic version.

Charles Campbell is not great, but not terrible either.

Dennis Haysbert has a fitting voice for Kilowog, but his acting leaves a bit to be desired. And when I listen to his clip, I just can't stop thinking about the Allstate commercial. XD John DiMaggio and Diedrich Bader are both good for the more comedic, light-hearted incarnations of the character.

Madsen, Rollins, and Campbell are okay, but they could've been better, or they were a bit miscast/misdirected. KMR nails both the tough and soft sides of Kilowog, and he's great in Green Lantern TAS, but his voice, as usual, is just too generic. Regardless, he's a great fit for the character, and I'd like to see him reprise the role more often.

That all being said, my vote goes to MCD, he's got a great deep, booming voice fitting for a drill sergeant, but he's still quite capable of the more emotional scenes. Not to mention that he's amazing as the live-action portrayal of the character. May he R.I.P. :'(

Michael Clarke Duncan- A perfect fit for Kilowog in the film with the fitting deep and gravely voice.
Henry Rollins- seems very unfit for Kilowogs size or other past voices and too high.
Kevin Michael Richardson- Another great fit for Kilowog.
Michael Madsen- if his voice had some deep vocal effect it would sound a little better but its an alright performance.
Diedrich Bader- not great but not horrible
said at 4:40 PM on Wed Apr 24 2013
(Accidentally hit post comment)
Dennis Haysbert- all I can hear is the Allstate voice but he still has a great voice for the character.
Charles Campbell- It's an okay performance but nothing really special.
John Dimaggio- his voice fits better than Madsen, Campbell, and Rollins, but its just an okay performance at best.

Overall I'd say Duncan and Richardson are my two favorites, with Haysbert close behind

Dennis Haysbert - Sounds a tad bit forced. If he used his speaking voice, it would of been better.
John DiMaggio - Good for a cartoonish Kilowog.
Michael Madsen - VERY different, but surprisingly works.
Deidrich Bader - Too forced, but you can tell its still him. Weak.
Henry Rollins - Seems like they were trying to do what they did with Michael, but doesn't work as well. Still OK though.
Kevin Michael Richardson - Love his role in the animated series. Even though its his generic voice, it works.
Michael Clark Duncan - RIP. Perfect casting.
Charles Campbell - Meh.

@VctrBnsn actually, for KMR, he puts on a Jersey/New York accent. Reminds me a lot of The Thing from Fantastic 4.

And I agree with all your analyses above KMR. MCD was near perfect casting for me. I think he went a little too deep with his voice and in turn it lost it's natural sound and emotion. Of course, he didn't get a lot of lines either so that didn't help.
said at 9:52 AM on Mon Mar 11 2013
@VctrBnsn It's a lot more guttural, too, compared to his usual "generic" voice roles.

@Foxwolf I would love to hear KMR do Thing with that voice.
said at 6:35 PM on Mon Mar 11 2013
@VctrBnsn I guess I said it was just his generic voice because the accent didn't throw me off knowing he was from the Bronx, maybe saying "his speaking voice" would of been more appropriate. And your right VengeanceKnight, it is a little different, even if it obviously is Kevin. Its like John DiMaggios work for both Bender and Jake the Dog. Both basically are his speaking voice, but side to side, you can tell a difference.

@Music Meister Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime more than once, and the Optimus page has his G1 and Movie voices due to them sounding different. Can't a similar loophole be used here due to GL:RotM and GL:TAS Kilowogs sounding different?

I'm going to give it to Kevin Michael Richardson. There's just more personality in his performance. He can be tough, he can be kind hearted. There's just more stuff in it.

Though Michael Clarke Duncan was a good live action Kilowog, if a tad bit evil sounding.

1.) Michael Clarke Duncan - A perfect match for a live-action version of Kilowog. Deep, gruff, just a good match overall. If they make a sequel and only get to keep one cast member, make it MCD!
2.) Kevin Michael Richardson - A good replacement for MCD, and good in his own rights.
3.) Michael Madsen - Despite not having a very deep voice, I find the raspy version hear works quite well.
4.) Dennis Haysbert - A good "not always angry" Kilowog, but I find that he makes the character sound...almost BORED to be doing anything.
5.) Bader/DiMaggio/Rollins - Not bad in any way, but nothing too memorable either.
6.) Charles Campbell - I agree with Music Meister, it almost sounds like a slight Scottish accent at the end there.

@RamWorkz Yeah, it is a shame. :( Not to lessen the effect of his death, but if Kilowog appears in a potential live-action "GL" sequel, I think they should cast either KMR, Keith David, or Jonathan Adams. They don't have to find someone who sounds *exactly* like Michael Clarke Duncan, just someone who can pull off a similarly awesome, deep voice.

 5 Shout Outs!
1. Kevin Micheal Richardson- He had the deep and gruff voice that Kilowog needs and while he keeps his rough and tough personality he still shows the kindness and the good person he is on the inside. Though I'm more going on how he is in the show then in that game.
2. Micheal Madsen- same with Kevin, deep and gruff but showed a caring guy on the inside.
3. Henry Rollins- He was a good replacement for Micheal and showed many of the same characteristics.
4. Michael Clarke Duncan- He's known for doing that kind of voice so it was a good casting call, my main problem is he sounds monsterous and even evil and people who didn't know who Kilowog would think he would do something evil later on.
5. Dennis Haysberg- deep enough but needed a little gruffness. Also lacked energy that the others had.
6. Charles Campbell- his he trying to do a scottish accent? That voice just doesn't fit and feels a little awkward.
