Green Lantern Green Lantern

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Atrocitus with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Green Lantern

Atrocitus is a antagonist in the Green Lantern series whom made his comic book debut in Green Lantern Volume #4 in December of 2007. Atrocitus was formerly known as Atros whom was a survivor of one of the sectors that the Manhunters rampaged and he desired to kill the Guardians of the Universe and all those who served them ever since. Atrocitus is a known member of the Red Lantern Corps and is a known foe of the Green Lantern Corps (whom initially had a known history with Abin Sur) and is also a foe of the Sinestro Corp as well. Atrocitus is a very destructive creature whom despite his strong desires of destroying the Guardians of the Universe is often  known for being more interested in carnage than avenging his world (so in other words he is normally not a sympathetic character).

Today on the Green Lantern VC we take a look at this infamous Red Lantern... ATROCITUS! Let us begin shall we?

Mike Smith- Mike's voice did have a suitably monstrous feel as it suits Atrocitus' depiction in the game rather well. Granted like many other characters in the game Atrocitus only had a little bit of lines but Mike did pretty well with what little he had and is a good example of the voice work in the game.

Bruce Thomas- Bruce's voice does have a monstrous feel to it but done with a bit more subtlety as in this movie Atrocitus is more of a shrewd manipulator rather than a violent beast in which Bruce's performance does work with what the movie was going for rather well.

Jonathan Adams- Jonathan's somewhat deep voice definitely suited on how Atrocitus is very much an evil warlord as it contained a good mixture of malice and authority. Jonathan's performance as Atrocitus suited on how he is a cruel warlord who will do anything he can to cause so much carnage throughout the galaxy and is a good example of the voice work in the show.

Overall I am not sure who to pick here as all of these guys did pretty well in their own way here.

After seeing some Injustice 2 gameplay I'm going to change my vote to whoever's voicing him in the game once they're added. They nail what Atrocitus should sound like in my opinion.

I think its a shame that Mike Smith didn't get more votes than he did. He sounds the best to me.

When I hear Dorn I don't think of the word "rage". This character pretty much embodies anger and rage so not reflecting that in the voice is really disappointing. Plus Dorn gives a really generic performance, nothing I'd really remember.
Honestly, missed opportunity with this character. Atrocitus getting his power from rage could have potential in being funny, like he could constantly throw temper tantrums or be overly angry at every little thing. They could had fun with it.

@Music Meister I feel Michael Dorn should have done a voice similar to Mirror Universe Worf.....

Now THAT sounds like a Force of Rage.

Bruce's whispery rasp fits the pre-anger Atrocitus very well. I think a couple lines sound a little flat but overall it's a pretty good performance with what he had to work with.

Smith sounds pretty good, but I feel gets a teeny bit too over the top angry sounding.

Jonathan has the powerful delivery and definitely gets the anger down well in his performance. Nothing else much to say, just a damn good performance from Adams.

I think Ike sounds good when he isn't yelling. I think when he starts yelling he sounds a little awkward, and even a little chuckle worthy on some lines. It's not bad, just nothing amazing.

Dorn I feel is kind of wasted potential here. Bruce to me worked because that was pre-anger Atrocitus so the calmer delivery worked better to me, here I think Dorn is a little too reserved in the performance. It's sad because I feel Dorn could've pulled off a really good Atrocitus if he was given a more serious show to work on. Though overall I'd say at worst the role is just passable, it's not all that standout for Dorn.

1. Jonathan Adams
2. Bruce Thomas
3. Mike Smith
4. Ike Amadi
5. Michael Dorn

I'd say my choice for a future Atrocitus VA would be Keith David or Kevin Grevioux

VC thoughts update

I really like Michael Dorn the most. His voice fits Atrocitus quite well. Yes, he's much more subdued than I expected him to be, but he's pretty enjoyable.

Ike Amadi is also really great. He just nails the rage and he's also quite energetic.

Jonathan Adams also has a great way to handle the rage and I also like how arrogant he sounds. Another standout of the Green Lantern cartoon.

Mike Smith's delivery is pretty good. I really think he's one of the better performancer in DCUO.

Bruce Thomas does have a cool sound to his voice, but something about his performance just doesn't sit right with me.

Dorn's Atrocitus was actually better than I expected. More subdued than how I think the character should be but still a fine performance.

Michael Dorn is pretty good as Atrocitus, much different voice than what I'd envision for the character, but he gets the job done. My vote still remains with Ike though.

Michael Dorn is a pretty good fit for Atrocitus. It's more subtle than Adams in the role but it's great nonetheless. He's my second favorite in this compare.

I don't feel anyone here perfectly nailed Atrocitus but here we go
1. Bruce- his voice sounds incredible but it's still a little light. It works for EK Atrocitus though.
2. Jonathan- the tone is so savage and fitting, but the voice doesn't match up with the visual IMO.
3. Mike- the closest to what I'd imagine him to sound like, but something seems off.
4. Ike- he sounds fine when whispering, but when he yells he sounds too young.

I'm changing my vote to Jonathan Adams. He's not perfect, but he's definitely the best IMO.

Jonathan Adams sounds epic as Atrocitus, he brings a certain level of class and sophistication to this red alien monster full of hatred. It was such a refreshing change of pace from his more calm and collected performances like as Kang the Conqueror or Vaatu. I gotta give my vote to him.

Ike Amadi does capture the angry monstrous rage that is Atrocitus, I love how low he can do go....however I feel he's a bit inconsistent sounding at times. Still he shows a lot of promise as a VA.

Mike Smith would be third, he has a very raged filled performance, not the greatest but I enjoy it.

Bruce Thomas is in last place as he sounds way too calm for a rage and hated filled being, his voice sounds great though.

BONUS: I remember the rumour a while back that Tony Todd was going to be voicing Atrocitus in the Green Lantern cartoon. In fact their was a guy who got to record Todd doing the red lantern oath....and man that was cool. I'd love to see what Tony Todd could bring to the role, he could mix the deepness of Amadi and the class Adams brought to the role.

I also would love to see Blu Mankuma, Fred Tatasciore, J. David Brimmer, Rick D. Wasserman and Dave Pettitt get the chance to voice Atrocitus.

Ike Amandi, not bad, not bad at all in fact.

I hope he gets to voice Atrocitus in an animated series or film since he could do more work in animation.

Voice wise Ike works but for a character who is a giant mass of rage he should have of a bit more energetic.
While I like Mike sounds like he's someone who is always filled with rage I prefer Jonathan as he sounds like he's just about to go berserk even when talking calmly. Plus he gives him an actual personality.

@LordofEvil96 I'd like to hear Travis Willingham as Atrocitus one day.

To me, Jonathan Adams really defined Atrocitus with his performance.

Smith is pretty decent for a DCUO performance, and the rasp he adds to the voice fits the character very well. Though he didn't have all that much to work with and some of his delivery did come off a little bizarre. Though it is much better than many of the other DCUO performances. 7/10

I feel Bruce is a bit too light. Yes he does sound threatening, but for a creature with that kind of design, it doesn't really have any weight or rasp to it to make it fit that design. He does have some good lines and his voice does sound creepy, but that voice could've fit another character rather than Atrocitus. Not bad, but a little unfitting I feel. 6.5/10

Adams is just great. Adams deepness and energy just make this role so memorable. His delivery is creepy and he just fits this character so well and handles the anger and yelling just as well as his more quiet and calculating moment. 8/10

1. Adams
2. Smith
3. Thomas

Such a spine-chilling line, showing the distance Atrocitus is willing to cross in order to create new Red Lanterns. this is why Jonathan Adams is my favorite.

Going with Jonathan Adams. He could have possibly sounded more monster-like, but he has that evil warlord thing down.

Mike Smith does sound quite monstrous.

Bruce Thomas is good, but he sounds a little more calm than I'd expect. The Editor's Opinion does say that his role in the film is not quite so rage monstery as he usually is.

I agree with the editor; each of them brought their own unique traits to the character of Atrocitus, so it's hard to choose. However, Jonathon Adams does the best job at conveying the character's rage and villainy.

if they slowed down Bruce Thomas voice to give it a more monstorous tone (Which I tried) I think it would sound exactly like how I pictured Atrocitus to sound, but I'll go for Jonathan adams

I'm going with Mike Smith, he sounds closer to what I think Atrocitus should sound like.

Bruce Thomas is a close second, a little light but pretty good.

Johnathan isn't bad at all but his voice isn't what I envision Atrocitus sounding like. He lacks the monstrous quality that Mike and Bruce have.

Also am I the only one who thinks Keith Szarabajka should voice Atrocitus?

@LordofEvil96 Hmmm. Be deep that's for sure. Johnathan reminds me of Michael Dorn.
