VC thoughts update

I feel Green Arrow is the best out of Norm Alden's three superhero performances. His energy and delivery kinda reminds me of Errol Flynn, which is great.

Chris Diamantopoulos is also pretty fun in the role too. I really like his delivery and he really seems to be having a blast in the role.

Alan Tudyk is great too. He sounds pretty fun and yet, he does sound like a very relatable father figure.

Stephen Amell really makes a good translation from live-action to voiceover. His performance is actually pretty good.

Ralph Garman does have quite a bit of energy. I like his delivery of "even my wounds have wounds".

I also enjoyed James Arnold Taylor and Will Friedle in the role.

I'm nor really feeling Chris Hardwick, Kin Shriner, David Jennison, Phil Morris and Neal McDonough in the role. The don't do it for me.

Much like Marshall, Tudyk benefits from having both Young Justice and Injustice under his belt. In YJ, we get the compassionate father figure trying to do his best, and tearing himself apart for when he fails his wards. In Injustice, we get the witty, daring, but unfailingly just and heroic Green Arrow, and he has by far the best comedic timing and delivery of any actor here. Tudyk easily gets my vote.

I... definitely have to go with the masses on this one; Alan Tudyk si my favourite Green Arrow. Out of every iteration, I feel his best encompassed every single attribute of Oliver that is lkeable: his suaveness, his confidence, the playful wit, the fatherly side, the determination, everything about Tudyk's Olly IS the best of Green Arrow. There is a natural charisma to the role that Alan carries which, imho, no other VA here QUITE manages yet. He's got my vote for sure!

In second place, ironically, it is none other than Damien Darkh-I mean, Neal McDonough. tbh, I even prefer his GA over his Flash; his deeper voice fits Oliver Queen more so, I feel, and it helped that he also got to play the warmer, more comforting side of Olly as well with his interactions with Perdita; whilst still playing that suave, cocky and playful Emerald Archer we all know and love.

My third favourite here is Kin Shriner. Compared to the other GAs, he is an older take on the character, and I feel that reflects well in his voice; he's not quite as entertainingly playful as Neal nor as rounded as a whole as Tudyk, but he bounced well off of Morena Baccarin's Black Canary, and is definitely another standout from the DCAU.

I also enjoy Stephen Arnell (albeit, moreso in LEGO Batman 3), Chris Diamantopoulos, Chris Hardwick, and Will Friedle, albeit I feel Will sounds a touch too light as GA and would probably fit better imho as Clint Barton/Hawkeye.

TOP FIVE:
1. Alan Tudyk
2. Neal McDonough
3. Kin Shriner
4. Chris Diamantopoulos/Stephen Arnell (LEGO Batman 3)
5. Chris Hardwick

CASTING CALL: Right off the bat, I think Quinton Flynn would make for a GREAT Oliver Queen; the dry delivery, playful energy and emotional sentiment he brought to life as Lea/Axel in the KH series has a little bit of everything I love aobut the best takes on GA, and I feel he could easily be on par with Alan Tudyk if he got the chance to play as rounded an iteration. Freddie Prinze Jr (while I also think he'd make a fantastic Hal Jordan) could also do really well as GA, I feel, in terms of a well-rounded performance. Perhaps even Mark Meer or Grant George?

5. Stephen Amell/ Will Friedle
4.Chris Diamantopoulos
3. Chris Hardwick
2. Neal McDonough/Alan Tudyk
1. Kin Shriner

Future VA Suggestions:

Brian Drummond would be a Great Fit as Green Arrow. I'm thinking that a voice similar his 'Transformers: Armada' Blurr would be 'Right on Target'...... Sorry, I Couldn't resist saying that.... :)

Kiefer Sutherland would be Another Solid Fit for the part. His Gravelly and World-Weary Jack Bauer Voice is one of the voices I use when reading the 'Quiver' Story Arc.

I also Recommend Brandon Potter, Patrick Dempsey, Luke Perry and Grant George.

@GreenGoblin75 To be fair the Justice League Unlimited version does call himself "An Old Leftie", so a more Middle Aged Voice for that version does work in its own way IMO.

Not disregarding your choices however as I rank those other voices very highly.

Green Arrow has always been a character near and dear to me. As such, when it comes to his portrayals, I'm very, VERY picky. Luckily for me the majority of his performances have been fantastic. For me it's a close race between Neal McDonough, Alan Tudyk and Kin Shriner as to who does the best as him, but going simply off of their performances, and how well they portray the character, I'm going to have to go with the latter of the three, Shriner.

@Music Meister That show plays Oliver so seriously anyway that Stephen doesn't really have a choice but to sound like Bow and Arrow Batman. He seems to have a good sense of humor from what I've seen. It'd be nice if he got to use it, but Arrow just wants to be all about his harsh, tragic life.

I agree writing/direction are the things holding Stephen back, he just needs to play a witty Green Arrow and not a all dark and tragic Arrow.
Polyester Funk

@Music Meister I like the show, but I wish they would ease up on making everybody have something tragic happen to them so often. Not that it has to be totally lighthearted, but just a little less grim. Flash is doing a good job of having a superhero series that can have a bit more fun. Hope this isn't off-topic.

it's not the fact the shows have different tones, it's that Arrow wants to be so grim-dark serious that it limits itself in many ways.

I rather not go too off topic in the comments as i already have. I will say I heard the series got better as it went on but I have not seen an episode in a while (I just remember not liking the bland darkness of it).

In honesty I should cut the show some slack and just let poeple enjoy it.

@Music Meister The first season gets progressively better and the second season is great. Introduces more comic book elements without breaking the tone too much.

Season three hasn't been as strong, but again, it becomes more of a superhero show than the Batman Begins rip-off it started as.

It really depends on which take of GA we're talking here. In terms of New 52 GA: Will Friedle works. But I'm looking forward to hearing Stephen's GA in Lego Batman, I have a feeling it'll be a closer fit to New 52 Green Arrow. Pre-New 52 modern GA back from the dead merged with his spirit: Alan Tudyk. Old school/back from the dead not merged with spirit GA: Kin Shriner.

That's whats hard about judging voices based off comic book heroes, especially DC. Because they're so many different versions, and most can. Fit at least one interpretation of the character.

Norman Alden: He sounds too generic, which is a problem with all superhero voice actors pre-Batman: The Animated Series. 3.5/10

Kin Shriner: Shriner captures the arrogant side fantastically. He also does a good job at the softer and serious side of Green Arrow. 9.5/10

Chris Hardwick: He does a good job, though he does sound a little too serious and forced. 7/10

Ralph Garman: He doesn't have much to work with, but does a good job with what's given to him. 7/10

James Arnold Taylor: He plays a perfect Silver Age Green Arrow, and I think he could do a good job as the Modern Age Green Arrow. 10/10

Neal McDonough: He was fantastic, as he captures both the arrogant and serious side nicely. 9.5/10

Alan Tudyk: Tudyk is perfect for me, as he perfectly captures the soft side of Green Arrow in Young Justice, and the arrogant and jokey side in Injustice. 10/10

David Jennison: Not bad, but he does not have alot to work with. 6.5/10
