Voice Compare » Ghost in the Shell » The Laughing Man
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of The Laughing Man with sound clips and images.
EDITOR'S OPINIONLast time on the VC section for Ghost in the Shell we did a one-shot character, a sexy pyscho lesbian one shot but a one shot nevertheless. (Though to be fair when it comes to feminine sexual orientation there are not that many named humanoid women on that show that are flat out heterosexual IIRC.) But still all of that aside we shall now be doing this prominent antagonist namely "The Laughing Man".
First of all we have VA Steve Blum voicing him in the dub for the TV series. Granted while its not hard to tell that Steve Blum is the only voicing TLM in the TV series but his performance was very fitting for the role. While the idea of a Steve Blum voiced role costarring with a sexy anime action heroine is nothing new its interesting to see him voice a calm intellectual antagonist here in this case. This is another pretty good example of Steve Blum's voice acting handiwork and a good example of how even if the general voice is familiar doesn't mean you can't show some range.
In the English dub of the Laughing Man special that used Ocean Studios for the voice work he was voiced by Ocean Group VA Michael Adamthwaite. And I must say that Michael's handiwork for Laughing Man was also a bit of a pleasant surprise as I was kind of surprised that he was cast for this role but it does work rather well. Granted some might notice on how Michael's Laughing Man voice has a slight (and I mean slight) British accent but it didn't put me off.
Overall I found it to be a worthy alternative to Steve Blum's Laughing Man voice that is good in its own right so I am not sure who to go for here.
