The Chief of Section 9 himself namely Daisuke Aramaki will be the 2nd GITS character for Voice Compare.

First of all we have William Frederick Knight whom has been doing the English voice for Aramaki since the first movie. I have definitely enjoyed Mr. Knight's handiwork as the Chief in which I can describe as "Firm Gritty Old Toughness with a nice touch of class" in which its quite possibly some of the best work in his career. Basically to make a long story short its a classic example of the quality of the voice work in the overall series.

But in the "Recap Specials" in which Bandai surprisingly used Ocean Studios had VA Russell Roberts voicing the Chief and I must say I am quite impressed. Seriously you can barely tell the difference at all, its quite possibly one of the best "Sound-a-like" performances I have seen. (And its easily one of the better performances in that dub.)

To be honest I am actually not quite sure WHO to go with this time as they both work so well. William F. Knight's handiwork for Aramaki is definitely classic but Russell Roberts is a very good example on how to do a "Sound-a-like" right.

(Note: In the Animax Dub for Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex made for the SE Asia TV Market Rick Thomas takes over the role. The only problem I have with this overall performance is that while Rick's Aramaki voice doesn't sound really young per say but it doesn't sound as old as say compared to his NA counterparts here. But in Rick's defense his performance for Aramaki is not too bad as he does deliver a pretty good authoritarian performance here. So basically yeah Rick is the weakest of the 3 here but he is not too bad especially if you view his performance by its own merits.)

I'd say it's a tie; both William and Russel pull off an equally antiquate and articulate performance... that and they both sound pretty much the same for the most part, though Will's is more discrete from Russel.

BONUS: I can see Steve Kramer filling in for William if he's not available, though for a more obscure LA cast backed up with a higher budget, I'd love for either Brian-Doyle Murray or Dwight Schultz to play the character. Brian as a sound-a-like, and Schultz for a different take that can still hold up on it's own.

Knight is the best here. Roberts isn't too bad either. Thomas seems to be miscast here as his voice sounds a bit too young for Aramaki's character.
