VC thoughts update

Despite not having the Scottish accent, I really like Arthur Burghardt the most here. I feel his performance more than makes up for the lack of the accent. He just does a great acting job all the way and really made Destro a force to be reckoned with.

Maurice LaMarche's impression of Arthur is pretty good, although kinda light. But still, I must say that his performance is solid and it fits the tone of the DiC cartoon.

Isaac C. Singleton also does an amazing impression of Arthur.

Robin Atkin Downes really has Christopher Eccleston's delivery down pat despite the lighter voice. I really like him too.

Clancy Brown also works pretty well. He sounds quite charming in the role.

Scott McNeil also does a great job as Destro. He kinda reminds me of Gregg Berger.

Marc Thompson, Eric Bauza and Chris Burnham leave little impression on me.

My Top 5 Favourite Destro Voices:

5. Arthur Burghardt/ Issac C. Singleton Jr.
4. Eric Bauza
3. Scott McNeil
2. Marc Thompson
1. Clancy Brown

Future VA Suggestions:

I really think Graham McTavish could be great as Destro, using a Deeper, Modulated version of his Servanti Romero voice (whilst retaining his natural Scottish Accent)

If he added a Glasgow accent to his Ansem Voice, Billy Zane could be another solid fit in the role.

I also recommend David Kaye, Peter Capaldi, Richard Epcar and Maxwell Caulfield.

I know that Arthur Burghardt is classic and iconic as Destro but if I'm going to be really honest, He never really clicked with me. The voice it does fit the design well but it doesn't fit his backstory at all. He's suppose to be Scottish yet it's some where muddled accent I can't recognize, I remember reading he never could do the Scottish accent so they told him it's fine you don't need it but it makes me wonder was there not another actor who auditioned who can do a better accent? Weirdly enough I kind of like Issac C. Singleton Jr. a bit more even though he's just doing an impression of Arthur, he sounds so spot on....I'm impressed. I like the voice but I don't think its the most fitting.

Personally I like Clancy Brown best, okay yeah he's basically a Scottish Lex Luthor but so far he's the only one who just fits Destro exactly how i'd imagine it. His voice carries power and his Scottish accent is excellent too.

Marc Thompson is also really good, he brings a nice amount of sophistication and menace to the role.

Scott McNeil is also very good too, his delivery is fantastic. I'd love to hear him voice Destro again in the future.

Eric Bauza kind of sounds like an evil Sean Connery which is cool.

Robin Atkin Downes does a great job impersonating/emulating Christopher Eccelston.

Maurice LaMarche feels like a real step down from Arthur, sounds way too hoarse for my liking.

Chris Burnham's acting is very weak.

Overall I like Clancy most so I'm going with him, though Marc, Scott, Eric, RAD and yes even Arthur and Issac do leave a good impression on me.

BONUS: I can so see someone like Jamieson Price, JB Blanc, Ron Perlman or Keith David being great as Destro.

Isaac sounds an awful lot like Arhur. I'm impressed.

Scott was also pretty good at voicing Destro, though his accent sounded more English than Scottish. Which isn't a bad thing, but it's a little disappointing since he actually did a spot-on Sean Connery impression for Stratos in "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe".

Chris Burnham's accent just makes his performance sound positively cartoonish, and he sounds more Irish than Scottish.

Robin's voice was pretty good, considering he was standing-in for the actor from the movie.

Clancy Brown was great, even though it's pretty much just a Scottish version of his Lex Luthor performance. Even then, he sounds kinda Russian at times.

Marc's Destro voice is actually pretty cool, I've gotta say. It actually sounds kinda like David Kaye's Megatron voice.

Speaking of which, I think David Kaye, Wes Johnson, or James Horan ought to voice Destro in the next G.I. Joe production.

Wouldn't Isaac's version count as a parody, and not be eligible for the voice comparison?

@Metabad The GI Joe episode of Community was approved by Hasbro, so it is eligible.

@NCZ So unlicensed/unapproved stuff is stuff not counted on Voice Compares? I guess that would explain all the Lego productions that are allowed on VCs.

@Bauglir100 Right. If an appearance is officially sanctioned regardless of context, it is automatically disqualified from the classification of parody.

Clancy Brown was a great choice for Destro. I didn't watch that show(think I saw a bit of it once), but he was really good. I'd like to hear him play Destro again.

Arthur Burghardt never really sounded Scottish, but I do like his voice a lot. That's the way he sounded when I was a kid so it's nostalgic.

Marc Thompson is rather good. He sounds suitably powerful and cunning.

I kinda like Scott McNeil. It wasn't one of his best, but I still think he did well.

Eric Bauza sounds too much like he's trying to do a Sean Connery impression than actually playing Destro.

Robin Atkin Downes does a good imitation of Christopher Eccelstron.

I do not care for Maurice LaMarche or Chris Burnham. Maurice is surprisingly bad and I know nothing of Chris, but I don't like what I hear here.

My vote goes to Clancy Brown. I like how sophisticated he sounds. In a future G.I. Joe series I think Graham McTavish should voice Destro.

1 . Clancy Brown - Wow , I knew Clancy was talented but just wow ! Manages to do a convincing Scottish accent while also making The Character sound sophisticated .
2 . Arthur Burghardt - While he doesn`t ( and apparently can`t by his own admission ) do the Scottish accent , he nonetheless gives Destro an intelligent voice with the occasional British pronunciation that works well .
3 . Marc Thompson - While different from previous Portrayals , Marc nonetheless portrays Destro as a cunning , manipulative schemer perfectly . Far superior to his Cobra Commander voice which also isn`t all that bad , it`s just not as memorable .
4 . Robin Atkin Downes - A good impersonation of Christopher Eccleston`s Performance . While neither does the Scottish accent perfectly ( Understandably as they`re both English ) , you can tell they`re trying their best and since McCullen`s a Scottish-American businessman in The Film it`s possible his years in The U.S. have muddled his accent somewhat .
5 . Scott McNeil - While far from Scott`s best work , he nonetheless gives Destro a sophisticated British accent that suits The Character .
6 . Eric Bauza - Awkward , forced and generic .
7 . Maurice LaMarche - Disappointing to say but while Maurice is one of my favorite Voice Actors and was the first to actually make Destro sound British , his Performance was generic and rote .

I don't think anybody but Arthur Burghardt could pull off a scotish accent and make it sound believable. :(
The thing about the other voices, sorry Scott McNeil fans, is that they try too hard to pull off a scotish accent and it doesn't sound all that believable. :(

@Celeste Um , Arthur admitted he can`t do a Scottish accent and when he tried it was so terrible the Casting Directors` ears bled so they told him to just do a more Cultivated version of his real voice with the occasional British pronunciation which worked out surprisingly well .

Again, I think all of their takes are actually decent and capture some essence of the dark and sinister character. Personally, I like Burghardt the best, and usually I don't like his voices
