Voice Compare » Flash » Flash / Barry Allen

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Flash / Barry Allen with sound clips and images.
Barry Allen was a police scientist who was one day exposed to chemicals hit by a lightning bolt. The result left Barry as one of the fastest beings in existence; capable of running faster than the speed of light. He is also able to vibrate his body to pass through solid matter and he has extremely fast reflexes.

I think Michael Rosenbaum's the most fitting, so I voted for him. But if James Arnold Taylor or Charlie Schlatter get another shot, or if Tom Kenny and Mark Hamill voice Barry Allen, I might change my vote to one of them.

If the Barry Allen Flash And Kid Flash appear in another show, movie or video game and Michael Rosenbaum voices one of them, which one would you want him to do the voice of?

Chambers is the only good thing about Flashpoint Paradox IMO

 1 Shout Out! [?]
Of the old schoolers, Jack Angel is the worst. A little too bland. Ted Knight and Ray Owens are surprisingly good though. They have a nice sense of earnestness and humor.

Charlie Schlatter has a nice touch with the fast talking, but he sounds a bit too light to me. A little too dorky, not enough charm. NPH is, as always, great, but I will forever associate his voice with Nightwing. Talesin is /way/ too serious and generic. Tudyk is perfect; intelligent, friendly, caring, with a goofy sense of humor. It would've been easy too to use a similar voice to Green Arrow, but he has this touch to it that differentiates them. Bauza is /too/ goofy. He sounds like... well, a cartoon character, instead of the releatable goof he is. Eads is okay, but something about his voice doesn't hit home, especially during the quips. Schultz is /way/ too deep, and sounds downright creepy and villainous. Maybe more of a Zoom or Reverse Flash.

Rosenbaum is Wally. Plain and simple. I just can't hear this as Barry. JAT is too light, imo, and sounds too much like his typical voice. Nothing that really gives it an unique Barry touch. Neal's a fav, and I can see why. It's a good performance. nice delivery with serious and comedic lines. But ultimately, his voice is too deep for me, and doesn't quite have that earnest dork touch I look for in my Barry voice. Chambers is fantastic. Emotional and fitting. Could've done a bit better with quips, but still. And Gorham is okay, but with the material, he doesn't get to really shine.
In conclusion
15. Jack Angel
14. Dwight Schultz
13. Talesin Jaffe
12. Ted Knight
11. Ray Owens
10. Eric Bauza
9. Christopher Gorham
8. Michael Rosenbaum
7. George Eads

Wow.... I really don't have a clear favorite at this point in time, judging by how great most of these guys did as the scarlet speedster. Alan Tudyk, Neil Patrick Harris, JAT, Neal Mcdough, Justin Chambers, and Charlie Schlatter in particular.

I figure Charlie deserves more love, as he nailed the fast talker emphasis that fit perfectly. I'll give him my vote, at least for now.

Alan Tudyk is the best Barry for that record I prefer the brave and the bold cast as pre-crisis voices and the dcau cast as Post-Crisis. Young Justice cast can be n52.

I've always pretended the Flash in Justice League was Barry, anyway. So Rosenbaum for me. Jason Spisak is Wally West, though.
said at 5:33 AM on Sun Jun 1 2014
@Redgohan On the contrary, I can't unhear Rosenbaum as Wally. He just sounds more Wally than Barry to me. Even though he said they wanted him to play Barry more straight laced, as opposed to how he voiced Wally, you can still hear slight snark when he speaks (which is more so just how he is in real life). Doesn't have that Barry earnestness to his voice in my book.

 3 Shout Outs! [?]
Charlie Schlatter: The fast pace talking when he's nervous is good and he had good delivery on lines that needed it but something about the voice seems more Wally than Barry. Maybe becase he sounds pretty young or that he played Wally before. Still he was a pretty good Flash.

I have the same opinion on all the Superfriend voice of Flash, they were decent hero voices but rather generic.

Neil Patrick Harris: He was a good choice but he lacks the same energy he's known for and just felt phoned in at some places. He's not bad but Neil can easily be better.

Taliesin Jaffe: This isn't Flash at all, he's not funny and he is just way too deep. He is just a throwaway hero voice and overall forgettable and bland.

Alan Tudyk: Apparently he's going to be every League member at one point huh? That said, he's really good as Flash. He's likable, he can be funny but is able to be serious when it's needed. A very good example of his work.

Eric Bauza: Too cartoony at times and his delivery doesn't seem as entertaining as others but I can't really see anything really wrong with the voice, so maybe under different direction he could be better.

George Eads: He sounds forced in a lot of scenes, his one liners aren't as fun as they should be and a little too deep.

Dwight Schultz: ...he's trying and I think he works in some ways but, and I hate to put it this way, he sounds a little too old.

Michael Rosenbaum: I'm sorry but just because he worked for Wally doesn't mean it translates to Barry. He's not bad he doesn't differ from his Wally enough.

James Arnold Taylor: A step up from George, he sounds more natural and fitting. I know he played Flash in the more serious scenes so he didn't get a chance to crack jokes but looking at his past roles, he can for sure do it amazingly.

Neal McDonough: He can be funny or serious and balances both well but it is just too deep for my liking. I don't think he's a miscast as his performance was really fitting but not my favorite.

Justin Chambers: He did Flash's serious moments really well and you felt his pain but when it came time for jokes he didn't quite have the same charm, plus every so often he has off delivery. Still I still enjoyed his take and wouldn't mind him returned.

Christopher Gorham: He had potential but the movie wrote Flash rather poorly and he wasn't around that much (though I did like his line about Hal's "we got this"). I think he deserves a second chance.

In the end my two favorites are JAT and Alan but NPH, Just Chambers, and Neal I can seem them improve and become my new favorites if given the chance.

NCZ (Admin)

@Slick It is a fact that his voice is deep. It is your opinion that his voice is *too* deep and that it is unfitting for the Flash. Your previous responses to other people were phrased in a way that led to the interpretation that you were stating your opinions as fact.

Having an opinion is totally all right but it never hurts to phrase yourself carefully. That way it avoids misinterpretations and shows an indication of respect toward the opinions of others.

Has anyone ever noticed that Green Arrow and Flash/Barry Allen share the same two voice actors, and one of each is the best for their respective characters? For example, I'm talking about Alan Tudyk and Neal McDonough. Alan voiced Flash once, but Neal is the best because of the polls..but it is vice-versa for Green Arrow, where Alan takes the lead over Neal.

I prefer Justin Chambers as he brings out the softer emotional side of the Flash so he gets my vote. Michael is 2nd & Neil is 3rd

Charlie & Eric are way to young for Flash's voice.

Neal may the most popular for a lot of people but to me he just comes off as an ok voice. That's just my opinion.

Ray, Ted & Jack don't fit the Flash for me.

Every1 else was ok & pretty decent.

Charlie Schlatter - An entertaining performance with more personality than his STAS appearence.
Ted Knight - OK
Jack Angel - Not as good as Ted.
Neil Patrick Harris - His normal voice, but it works fine.
Taliesin Jaffe - Almost sounds like Crispin Freeman. Its OK, not very memorable.
Ray Owens - Mediocre.
Alan Tudyk - Not my favorite, but good.
Eric Bauza - Cartoony, but OK.
George Eads - Hated it at first, sounded like he had a stuffed up nose. But I love it now.

Though Dwight Schultz isn't too bad as Barry, but his voice seems to work more for Jay Garrick

Disappointing that was Barry not Wally in Justice League Doom. Pretty sure most DCAU fans consider it Wally and will ignore anything saying it's Barry.

Considering he's addressed by name and we see him uot of costume, that will be hard to do.

I meant to say "out of costume".

Rosenbaum is great as Wally, but I wasn't a fan of his Barry. I'll go with Eads.

@D.A.V.E. Still sticking with Eads, but James Arnold Taylor did good.

I don't get why they had the flash in doom be barry and not wally when rosenbaum was playing him, cause the association is definitely there.

@GothamRed Justice league doom was based off a comic so they didn't want to change it. It's the same reason they made Green Lantern Hal Jordan instead of John Stewart and omitted Hawkgirl entirely.

@GothamRed Ignore my last comment. wally was in the comic not Barry so changing it to Barry was just plain dumb.

Yep, and even with GL, it was still changed, anyway, as in "Tower of Babel" (the comic Doom's based on), it was Kyle and not Hal.

Rosenbaum gets my vote.

@TheVengeanceKnight He's distinguishable, iconic, and different enough from his Wally voice that it doesn't take me out of it. =)

George Eads as Barry for me, though Charlie Schlatter, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alan Tudyk were good as Barry, too.

my #1 vote is Alan Tudyk, for reasons being that honestly his Firefly costars have gone so far in the world of DC voice acting. It is a shocker that George Eads is Nick Stokes and he does come in second.

Charlie Schlatter. The guy's freakin' hilarious!

I voted for George Eads. I love NPH in new frontier, but his voice a bit more high pitched than I imagine when I read Flash.

Ray Owens, Jack Angel, and Neil Patrick Harris are the best out of those guys by far.

Jack is the definitive voice for Barry Allen/Flash, runner-up is Doogie

You can also include Charlie Schlatter in The Batman. That's right, Schlatter's voiced Barry *and* Wally.
