Super Skrull

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Super Skrull with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Fantastic Four

(Note: Jess Harnell will not be appearing in this Voice Compare due to the fact that when he voiced Super Skrull in the 90's Fantastic Four series all he did was just grunts and roars.)

Super Skrull A.K.A Kl'rt is a very powerful Skrull whom is a prominent Antagonist in the Fantastic Four series whom made his Comic Book Debut in Fantastic Four #18 in September of 1963. Super Skrull is a genetically modified Skrull that has all the powers of all 4 members of the Fantastic Four whom has served the Skrull army but has worked with other villains such as Thanos and Ronan the Accuser. While Super Skrull is primarily known as an enemy of the Fantastic Four he has antagonized other Marvel Superheroes before such as Ms. Marvel whom is one of the more prominent examples.

Today on the Fantastic Four VC section we take a look at the most famous Skrull there is SUPER SKRULL! Since this is a huge VC I will say that most of these performances were very good but I suppose I will go with Neil Ross, Mark Oliver and Charlie Adler (Marvel Vs. Capcom 3) the most here. (Though I was pleasantly surprised with Marvin Miller and Earth Warren though).  The others were not bad though as while Jim Cummings' work as the SHSS Super Skrull is not bad but I would like to hear him get a chance to do the role without making him sound so robotic kind of like what Charlie Adler got a chance to do. Overall I liked Neil, Mark and Charlie (MVC3 Version) the most for the role of Super Skrull here.

VC thoughts update

My favorite here would have to be Marvin Miller. He has an incredible deep voice and his delivery is so bombastic while also adding an element of threat into the role. This is my favorite role from Miller.

Charlie Adler has a higher sounding voice, but it isn't unfitting at all. He sounds bombastic and violent. He was especially good in Marvel Heroes.

Kyle Hebert is pretty epic as well. I wish he had more material, 'cause he just sounds pretty fitting.

Tom Harvey is strange. He sounds like a strange Edward G. Robinson impression trying to pass for an alien. But I must admit, like Vita Linder's Wasp, this take does have its charm.

Neil Ross is good, but he could have been deeper. Still, not bad. Speaking of the 90's FF cartoon, really disappointed that Jess Harnell didn't speak as Super Skrull. If he used his Captain Zorax from the 1987 TMNT cartoon, he would be awesome.

I also enjoyed Greg Eagles, Mark Oliver, Earth Warren, Jim Cummings, Travis Willingham, Steve Blum and Troy Baker.

Jesse Falcon and Kevin Grevioux are forgettable.

1. Jesse Falcon
Not a classic performance or anything like that, but he has cool sounding voice and the authority needed for the role.

2. Mark Oliver
Has the same qualities that I like about Falcon, but is not quite as good.

3. Kyle Hebert
He has a lot of potential and all the rights elements are there. Sadly, he doesn't have enough material/screen time to leave big impact.

4. Troy Baker
Interesting change of pace for Troy and he does admirable job. Unfortunately he had even less to work with than Hebert so he doesn't either leave strong impact on me personally.

5. Greg Eagles
I give him credit for doing his best to sound deep and authoritative, but the end results unfortunately sounds little forced. While listening him, I'm always aware that I'm hearing an actor speaking to a microphone.

6. Kevin Grevioux
Run-of-the-mill "scary black guy" voice/performance. It gets the job done, but it really isn't anything to write home about.

7. Charlie Adler (MvC3)
I'm sorry, but I just don't get his popularity. Sure, he does fine job and I'm not expecting anything Oscar worthy from fighting game that doesn't have a proper story mode or even cutscenes, but IMO he just doesn't fit to this role. While reading the comics, I always imagine Super-Skrull as a military leader with deep voice, cold delivery and authoritative presence. Charlie isn't only raspy, but he his screaming like a madman all the time. Maybe he could work, if he did something closer to his Cobra Commander, but for now I'm not impressed.

8. Earth Warren/Steve Blum/Travis Willingham
Fine as generic monster voices, but they are no way specific to Super-Skrull. They could recycle these performances for any villain and no one would notice.

9. Tom Harvey
Ever wondered what Popeye would sound like as evil alien? Now you know XD

10. Marvin Miller/Neil Ross
Booming and hammy voices that are certainly entertaining, but not really threatening.

11. Jim Cummings/Charlie Adler (TSHSS)
What?! Why are they doing robotic speech pattern for the role? Super-Skrull isn't a robot and never has been. Even by Super Hero Squad standards this is a weird direction to take. I just don't get it.

In the end, I don't feel that any of them is the definitive Super-Skrull or anything like that. Hopefully someday someone will knock this role out of the park and truly bring this great villain to life.

You sure that isn't Blum again, just, you know, without the forced deep voice. Like the Loebverse, different effects can be used in different shows. And considering SSSO's made-to-order cast it's already been proven quite clear that consistency is not a requirement for added-on events, much less the actual show cast.

Tom and Marvin both sound good for the shows that they appeared on, but I think I l like Marvin a little more, I just feel he sounds more bombastic which just sounds entertaining to me but they both fall on the same boat, not bad, but not amazing. 6/10

Neil again sounds okay. His rasp does work well with his portrayal here, but there just really isn't all that much to it that really makes it all that memorable. 6/10

Greg sounds surprisingly good here. It does sound odd hearing Skrull sound this deep, but it just oddly work with Gregs delivery. 6.5/10

Marks performance is just fantastic. It doesn't sound all that alien, but its the performance that Mark gives that makes this role fantastic. His delivery is fantastic, and his whispery kind of voice near the end is very creepy. 7.5/10

Earth is much more alien, but this is probably one of my favorite performances here. The rasp works incredibly well with the SS, and it does sound very alien like which also helps a lot as well. Plus it just sounds so deliciously evil I love it. 8.5/10

Jesse sounds okay, but his delivery is a bit awkward at points, and sounds really forced at a few lines. 6/10

Charlie does work very well with the role. His voice does fit the design well and while I wish he was able to play a more serious portrayal in a TV show, his MVC3 performance makes up for it, and it sounds very good. 8/10

Kyle has this very good rasp when playing the Super Skrull, and his delivery is very good, it just makes me wish he had more dialogue to go off of. but as is it is a good performance. 7/10

Steve is again okay in the role but there isn't much to go off of for this character. 6/10

Troy sounds good when I can hear him. He has this great rasp to the character, but like with Charlie, I wish he had a TV portrayal so I could make a more fair judgement. 6.5/10

I was honestly worried when I first saw Kevin was to play the Super Skrull, but after hearing it, my fears were put to rest. Kevins deep voice not only works extremely well but his delivery is just fantastic. It's very creepy and he just has this great presence to him that sets him apart from the other skrull. 8.5/10

1. Earth
2. Kevin
3. Charlie
4. Mark
5. Kyle
6. Greg
7. Troy

@Music Meister Jim is on the level of Marvin to be honest. He isn't horrible, he just doesn't leave that much of an impression, and I feel the voice is kind of unfitting for this type of character, I know its SHSS but it just sounds kind of awkward to listen to.

Kevin was a great choice, his deep gruff voice (while basically his Black Betle minus the effects) fits for Super Skrull really well. He has the mencing and yet commanding voice.

One problem is Kevin's signature slow pace voice, I feel Super Skurll is a character that requires more energy but I am impressed with Kevin overall.

Charlie Adler was pretty awful in The Super Hero Squad Show.... but he is the best voice ever for the character in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

So I'm voting Adler, MvC3 version. He gives an over the top interpretation that suits a comic book character, while at the same time sounding sadistic and scary.
That voice filter to make the character sound more alien is perfect.

Steve sounds like he's channeling Jim Cummings, Tory sounds like he's channeling Clancy Brown. If that was their intent, a decent effort that gets the job done but neither had enough material to be more material.

Honestly i kind of like Steven Blum better in the role of the SHSS Super skrull than either Jim Cummings or Charlie Adler,i wonder why he didnt get a chance to voice a serious take on the character as of yet

Steve's acceptable, nothing really amazing about the role but he gets the job done.

I have mix feelings about Troy, I feel the effects are a bit too thick but minus the effects (as you can hear in the scream) and he sounds too generic. Maybe with less effects he could work.

1. Kyle Hebert
2. Greg Eagles
3. Charlie Adler (MVC3, he's good but a bit too cartoonish for me)
4. Jasse Falcon (nice and deep but perhaps a bit too deep)
5. Neil Ross (lacks deepness but good gruffness)

With special mention to Jim Cummings

1. Charlie Adler (MvC 3)- I try not to go for the MvC 3 voices since a lot of people are bias torward them but...he was awesome in this role. What's surprising is that's not the voice I expected to fit for him but man does it work. Despite being higher then some of the others it's strong and angry but hints at an unstable side plus the slight effect is good for showing he's not human but isn't too think that it sounds robotic (odd how this is the least robtic sounding of his twp performances). It really is awesome and shows Alder can do serious roles (I know he has other serious roles).

2. Earth Warren- This is closer to how I orignally thought Super Skrull should sound, gruff deep voice while sounding mosterous. He sounds unstable and angry but lacks some "authority figure" sounding and at times sounds alittle forced but I still think it fits.

3. Jesse Falcon- A good deep gruff voice that feels strong and angry, I can also see him commanding other Skrulls which is a big plus.

4. Mark Oliver- Not bad, strong and sounds unstable but is a bit too light but a step in the right direction.

5. Kyle Herbert- Eh, it's a step in the right direction but the effect is a little too thick and seems a little forced and inconstant. It's deep and gruff enough though.

6. Greg Eagles/Neil Ross- Neither are bad but lack a lot. Greg has the deepness and Ross has the gruffness but nothing really else. THeir performances were good though they could do better.

7. Marvin Miller- Pretty generic but characters like Super Skrull sounded like that back then.

8. Tom Harvey/Charlie Adler (SHSS)- Both are using voice that just don't fit. Tom sounds like he's trying to do an Egor voice at times and Charlie...maybe is a parody of "Take me to your leader" saying but just doesn't fit.

9. Jim Cummings- He's one of my favorite voice actors so this is a little hard to write. First off he sounds nothing like Charlie so why the hell use Jim Cummings to replace him, second at least with Charlie the voice felt natural while Jim just sounds forced. I know Jim has a voice that can fit SS a lot better
