Human Torch

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Human Torch with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Fantastic Four

Human Torch is the superhero identity of Jonathan "Johnny" Storm. He is a member of the Fantastic Four, brother of Susan Storm / Invisible Woman and brother-in-law of Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic.

Some of his superpowers are pyrokinesis, flight and the ability to absorb heat. All his superpowers were gained from exposure to the cosmic rays in space. Like his fellow Fantastic Four members his identity is publicly known to the world.

 6 Shout Outs!
1. David Kaufman
David gave the role youthful energy and made him sound cocky without being annoying or unlikeable. His performance and voice were fine in USM game, but I think he perfected both by the time he appeared in AEMH.

2. Josh Keaton
It's of course hard not to hear Spider-Man from Keaton's performance (even though it technically should be other way around, since this came before SSM) and that can get distracting, but both the voice and personality still fit the character perfectly.

3. Kirby Morrow
Oh man, I know that he had limited dialogue, so it kinda feels wrong to put him this high, but the voice just fits perfectly and he oozes Human Torch's presumptuous personality. Kirby needs to reprise this role someday!

4. Roger Craig Smith
Just like the actors above him, Roger has fitting voice and gets the personality down. The material is little bit bland, making his performance slightly monotone in places, so I would like to see him reprise someday.

5. Christopher Jacot
I feel so confused, because Christopher used to be my favorite, but now something feels little off about him. His voice isn't as on point as I remember and his personality is little bit more annoying. I probably have to rewatch the show someday to make sure, if the clip is just showcasing some of his weaker work. Nevertheless, I still think that he was fitting casting choice and I do remember him having good chemistry with both Lara Gilchrist and Brian Dobson.

6. James Arnold Taylor
James get typecast as these kind of characters a lot, but he always does good job. He didn't have enough screentime to make this particular role standout too much from the rest of his resume or this voice compare, but he was still above average.

7. Chris Evans
Chris was pretty good casting choice in the movies and did better job than he had any right considering how one-dimensional the material given to him was. In the game, he comes off much more motone than he was in the movies, but does still OK job. Nothing amazing, but not too bad either.

8. Matthew Yang King
I give Marvel Heroes major props for not typecasting and it paid off pretty well. Matthew isn't amazing, but he has the right voice and comedic delivery. He just needs more material to make the performance more memorable.

9. Quinton Flynn
Quinton was born to play arrogant smartmouths and his voice is fitting for the Torch as well, but the direction for him seems to be little off. When listening him, I'm always aware that I'm hearing a guy speaking to a microphone rather than getting emerged to the character. It probably didn't help that he spent most of his time on the show in a poorly written love story subplot.

10. Brian Austin Green
I would say that Brian has same pros and cons as Quinton, but is overall little bit weaker. He has fitting voice for the character and tries his best to give the role energy, but his delivery is little off and the writing did him no favors.

11. Jack Flounders
Has certain charm and is fun to listen to, but doesn't feel fitting for the character.

12. Travis Willingham
Works for the SHSS version, but I can't see him working outside of the show.

13. Antony Del Rio
Sounds too young for the role and overall doesn't do anything memorable with the role. Granted, he didn't have much to work with, but I doubt he would have been amazing with more material.

14. Daran Norris
Way too deep and (until the very end) serious for the role.

15. Michael Broderick
Sounds too deep for my taste and gives very bored and monotone performance.

VC thoughts update

I really like Jac Flounders (Jack DeLeon???) the most in this role. He sounds pretty youthful, impulsive and adventurous. He also has great chemistry with his fellow cast members.

Matthew Yang King also works really well in the role. He sounds quite youthful and energetic.

Roger Craig Smith kinda reminds me of Jac/Jack. He has a nice cocky attitude and a lot of energy.

David Kaufman also fits rather well. He has a more laidback attitude, but he does seem to be having fun nonetheless.

Quinton Flynn is a vast improvement over Brian Austin Green. I love how energetic he sounds and he does nail the impulsiveness of the character.

I also enjoyed Daran Norris (despite the deeper voice), Kirby Morrow, Josh Keaton, Michael Broderick, Travis Willingham and James Arnold Taylor in the role.

Brian Austin Green, Chris Evans and Christopher Jacot just don't work for me.

No reason for Dawdling, Here are my top 5 Favourite Human Torch voices:

5. James Arnold Taylor/ Josh Keaton
4. Kirby Morrow
3. Roger Craig Smith/ Matthew Yang King
2. David Kaufman
1. Quinton Flynn

Future VA Suggestions:

For a Young Adult Incarnation, I think Greg Ayres would be a natural fit. A slightly lighter and more flirtatious version of his Lutz voice from Jormungand would be best for the Fantastic Four's Resident Hothead....

If he added a more flamboyant and arrogant tone to his Tombo voice, Matthew Lawrence could be another great voice for Johnny Storm.

I also recommend Matt Charles, Ben McKenzie, Hunter Parrish and Adam Wylie.

Travis sounds like he's mocking Sean Schemmel tbh. Ergo he sounds like Sean in his falsetto.

Side note: Robbie daymond or Jeremy shada would be good choices for the human torch

David Kaufman is my favourite Human Torch here. I just found his voice clicked with me when I first heard him in EMH, he's young and youthful and still really cocky but still likeable which I find Johnny sometimes doesn't act like.

I also really like James Arnold Taylor, Josh Keaton, Roger Craig Smith, Kirby Morrow, Matthew Yang King and Quinton Flynn as Johnny, they all sound likeable and charismatic enough.

I really don't like Christopher Jacot, i think his voice and the way he was depicted in WGH kept me from liking Johnny in the show and in general. He just acts like a complete utter tool. If Kirby Morrow voiced him here, maybe I'd like him a bit more.

Chris Evans was actually well cast in the F4 movies even if he wasn't that likeable.

Travis Willingham got to show off his range nicely here though he could get grating at times.

Brian Austin Green is OK but Quinton Flynn voiced the role far better.

Michael Broderick's voice is indistinct and kinda dull.

Jack Flounders/Deleon and Daran Norris sound too deep for Johnny.

Anthony Del Rio sounds way too young and light for Johnny.

Overall David Kaufman has my vote.

BONUS: I could see Matthew Erickson (Shinn Asuka) being a great fit for Johnny Storm. I'd also like to see Darren Criss, Josh Peck, Johnny Yong Bosch, Jason Liebrecht, Ben Diskin and Crawford Wilson all have a shot at voicing The Human Torch.

David rocks the Torch skyhigh so he gets ma vote.

As for every1 else. Some did pretty good, some were way too high pitched & Daran was the only guy who sounds like a full grown man rather than young guy in his 20's.

Once again, I like how Marvel Heroes went against type in casting, and although Matthew isn't my fav, he does do a good job. Antony's just his Reptil recycled, shame cause I know he has range from his role in Kid Icarus.

@VctrBnsn to be fair, Anthony may have also voiced Angel and Iceman along with Reptil so his range may have been stretched thin.

@HyperVoiceActing Human Torch would be either Sonic, Silver or Knuckles, as all of their current voice actors have voiced him at one point.
(Roger Craig Smith, Quinton Flynn & Travis Willingham, respectively).

Besides Dan Green works in New York and The Super Hero Sqaud Show is recorded in California.

Plus every creditable source lists Travis Willingham as the VA.

Also Travis's official website even says he voices Human Torch. :)
