Fantastic Four Fantastic Four

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Gorgon with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Fantastic Four

Gorgon is a member the Inhuman Royal Family who first appeared in Fantastic Four #44 (Nov. 1965). The cousin of Black Bolt, Gorgon serves as his personal bodyguard and trains youths in the use of their powers after being exposed to the Terrigen Mists. Gorgon was sent to find Medusa after she went missing from Attilan. Gorgon found her with the Fantastic Four and he attacked them. During the scuffle, he managed to return Medusa back to the Inhumans. Gorgon has served loyally next to Black Bolt ever since. After being exposed to the Terrigen Mists as a teen, Gorgon has gained superhuman strength and endurance and his feet have transformed into hooves that can create seismic waves powerful enough to generate earthquakes.

Here is my ranking

1: Michael Dorn- Very good casting in which Dorn's trademark deep voice suits the role well.

2: Greg Eagles- Maybe a little too gruff and should be a bit deeper but other than that is rather solid.

3: Brian Drummond- Not my first choice for Vancouver VA Talent for Gorgon (I was more thinking Scott McNeil or one of the Dobson Brothers) but he is surprisingly pretty good.

4: Jared J. Lee- Seems a bit jarring & light compared to the others but does fit the Inhumans TV series version of Gorgon rather well.

5: Nolan North: Nolan tries to sound a bit gruff but this is a bit of a miscast as he sounds a bit too light for the role. There were plenty of VA's in that show that would've fitted Gorgon a bit more. (John DiMaggio, Travis Willingham, David Boat, Kevin Michael Richardson etc.)

6: Don Messick- Sorry but the late great Don was really miscast for the role as his voice was way too high. Though in retrospection one could wonder if Don Messick (Gorgon) & John Stephenson (Karnak) probably should've switched roles for that episode.

@Pokejedservo Yeah, I think John should have been Gorgon since he did gruff voices.

@Pokejedservo Although I feel they were the best performances in that cartoon, I must agree that John and Don should have switched roles.

Though I must admit that I like the novelty of Don playing a strong man instead of the typical gruff old timers, regal figures, intellectuals and cartoony-sounding characters. It's quite the change of pace.

Nolan North is my favorite here. He has a great deep voice and his performance is really great.

Don Messick delivers one of the better performances in the 1978 Fantastic Four cartoon. He does sound quite strong and powerful.

Michael Dorn also sounds great. He sounds both powerful and badass in the role.

Greg Eagles does sound pretty good, but his delivery could use a bit of polishing.

Brian Drummond also sounds good, but doesn't sound as powerful as the others.

Jared J. Lee is pretty flat.

I get that Jared is more based on the Inhumans show version of Gorgon and his voice does match that...it is delivery that kills it though. I do not understand what direction he could have gotten to deliver lines like that.

@Music Meister I was doing my best Michael Dorn impersonation while trying to sound in my 20's. The lines didn't have any "!!" marks so I just read them stern. I did multiple takes, this is what they choose. I'm new the bizz and dont have the experience the other voice actors have.I am still happy I was given the opportunity to play this character. I will keep training and auditioning so I can be on their level.

Jared sounds really weird. He's definitely the weakest out of all the voices for Gorgon.

Here's my take for Gorgon:

1. Brian Drummond= He sounds really like a wonderful jokester with a gruff voice.

2. Nolan North= He sounds pretty good.

3. Micheal Dorn= He also sounds threatening and good.

4. Don Messick= He sounds pretty fine.

5. Greg Eagles= He sounds forced and gravely, I guess.

Don Messick sounds OK. I think the main problem is that it sounds way too normal to be Gorgon.

Michael Dorn sounds really good. Very booming and fits very well. A huge standout from the Fantasic 1994 show.

Greg Eagles sounds way too unatural. Way too gruff for most of his dialogue. It needs to sound smoother.

Drummond's take is pretty interesting. The voice itself is really good, it seems to be much hammier than most of the Gorgon voices. I'll give him props, he did make it sound different from his Maximus voice.

Nolan North's take is perhaps the most subdued Gorgon that I've heard thus far in this whole compare. I like that it doesn't sound like your typical Nolan North role where he sounds really recognizable. Here he sounds very unrecognizable.
I do feel he sounds much better in Avengers Assemble, also he made it sound much deeper here.

I think if I had to rank them, I'd call it a 3 way tie with North, Dorn & Drummond. Messick & Eagles take 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Brian is the only one to do more than just have a deep/gruff voice. He actually has a personality and Brian puts a lot of energy. Especially when he gets angry.
He has my vote.

I just love it when a voice actor's clearly enjoying themselves in a role, and Drummond's certainly enjoying his. My vote's on him.

Brian's pretty good, but if I could vote just based on who does the best laugh here, it would definitely go to him.

I just noticed something! After listening to Nolan North's voice, that's actually the same voice for one of the uruks from Shadow of Mordor, who'm I thought was Steve Blum!

Here's that voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1F2K4gCVrY 4:37

Try and tell me that was Steve Blum or John Dimaggio.

Michael is hands down the best so my vote goes to him.

Nolan is 2nd as he also did a really good job.

Greg was ok though he was a bit too gruff to be considered great.

Even though he's my least favourite, I quite liked Don's take.

Going with Michael Dorn. That deep, booming voice suits Gorgon very well. He made the character memorable.

Greg Eagles also had a deep voice and was good, but he sounds a bit more evil.

Nolan North is also really good. Couldn't really tell it was him.

Don Messick was alright. Nothing special.
