Fantastic Four Fantastic Four

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Galactus with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Fantastic Four

Galactus also known as Ravager of Worlds, Devourer of Worlds and The Creator is the last survivor of a previous Universe that existed before the current Universe.

Galactus has an insatiable hunger and feeds off planets rich in energy (with or without life on them) and without feeding Galactus would die. Galactus considers himself to be a higher form of life and is one of the most feared and powerful beings in existence.

He has appointed many Heralds to search for planets for him to feed on (the most well known is the Silver Surfer) and gives a small fraction of the Power Cosmic to each of them.

VC thoughts update

"The game is ended. The prize is lost. But I have seen a glint of glory within the race of men. It shall one day lift you to the stars... or bury you in the ruin of war. The choice is yours. Farewell."

I honestly like Ted Cassidy the most here. His performance is quite possibly the crown jewel of the 1967 Fantastic Four cartoon. He played Galactus with a great theatrical flair and the way he delivers his final speech is perfect (I honestly wish that last speech was used in this VC clip). He truly made Galactus a proud yet noble being who was above good or evil. Honestly, whenever I read the Galactus trilogy, I imagine Ted's imposing voice.

Now we get to the straightforward evil Galactus category. Jonathan Adams delivers a good performance and he really sounds imposing, but like the next performers, I feel he sounds too evil in the role.

John DiMaggio works for the Lego version. His performance is quite enjoyable despite being too evil.

Tony Jay also delivers a good performance, but his voice is kinda light IMO. And like DiMaggio and Adams, he sounds too evil.

Gregg Berger, again, solid performance, but too much on the evil side.

James Blendick and George Takei work well in the role, but I feel they're too light in the role. If I had to pick one of these two, it would be Blendick, since he does sound pretty imposing.

"No living thing dares ignore my call. For I am that which has always been, since this Universe was birthed from the ashes of the last. I am the hunger that dooms worlds. I am he who is beyond such frail Concepts as good and evil. I am Galactus."

What more Needs to be said about Galactus ( "He's Awsome", "Tim Story's Version of him SUUUUCKSSS" etc etc...)

Anyway enough Rambling in this comment, Here are my Top 5 Favourite Galactus Voices:

5. Gregg Berger
4. John DiMaggio
3. Tony Jay
2. Jonathan Adams
1. James Blendick

Future VA Suggestions:

Eric Rath would be 'Astronomical' as Galactus IMO, using a more ruthless and inhuman version of his Lugia voice

Having re-watched Legend recently, I believe Tim Curry would also be entertaining as Galactus, using a similar voice to Darkness (like this

I also recommend Tom Wyner, George Lazenby, Kevin Conroy and William Morgan Sheppard.

1. James Blendick
Easily the definitive Galactus. James' voice is deep, imposing and ancient, while his demeanor is calm and otherworldly. The echo effect is also subtle enough to not drown his own voice, but also gives Galactus larger-than-life presence.

2. Tony Jay
Tony Jay was pretty natural choice for the role at the time and his voice is perfect for Galactus. I do think that he was directed to play the role little bit too much like his usual villain roles, which doesn't fit the role too well (to me, Galactus is more a force of nature without a malicious agenda rather than your traditional super-villain).

3. John DiMaggio
I admit that even though he is one of my personal favorite voice actors of all-time, John would have never crossed my mind as a candidate for Galactus. Nevertheless, he does great imposing voice and the effects do boost his performance nicely. I really wish that he gets to reprise the role in something less silly than Lego game and something with more competant writing than the current cartoons, so he could truly knock this role out of the park.

4. Gregg Berger
Gregg kinda has the same problem as Tony, i.e. his voice fits perfectly but the direction makes him too much like everyday villain. If you want to hear Gregg's voice without all the backround noice drowning him, here you go:

5. Jonathan Adams
No offence to anyone, but I can't help feeling that Jonathan is so popular for the cool factor alone. Don't get me wrong, the voice is cool, but the performance is all wrong for Galactus. Jonathan plays the role too much like malicious being and goes really over-the-top with his aggressiveness.

6. Ted Cassidy
Could fit any random villain and doesn't feel anyway specific to Galactus. Gets some points for being funny in campy way.

7. George Takei
Even for full-on comedic take, this doesn't work at all. George is pretty much using his normal voice and it doesn't fit the character. Feels like that they were more concerned about stunt casting rather than having interesting or funny take on the character.

Galactus needs a deep massive sounding voice that makes him sound other worldly. The best two voices here are James Blendick and Jonathan Adams.

James Blendick has such a deep booming yet charismatic and classy type of voice that just fits Galactus really well. He doesn't sound exactly how you'd immediately imagine him but I think that's what I like about his take.

Jonathan Adams is far deeper sounding and manages to make Galactus sound different from his Kang and numerous other roles. The effects on his voice just add an even more booming sound to his voice as well as menace.

Tony Jay had an epic voice and he fits Galactus very well but not in the same way Blendick and Adams do.

John DiMaggio I'm impressed here, he actually fits Galactus really well.

George Takei is another surprisingly good fit, he fits a more comedic Galactus but he still works very well, sounding very arrogant and above all humans, a great example of out of the box casting.

Gregg Berger I can barely hear. He sounds alright from what I can hear.

Ted Cassidy is easily my least favourite here, he just sounds like a generic villain and not something much bigger or as majestic as Galactus.

It's a close one but I'll go with James Blendick.

BONUS: I'd love to see John Noble, Jon Avner or Gerard Plunkett as the voice of Galactus someday.

It's pretty difficult to surpass Tony Jay but Johnathan Adams, James Blendick, Gregg Berger, and John Dimaggio do come close to that. Tony Jay just defines the voice of Galactus, the others I mentioned are after him in that order. George is right after them, and Ted is last by far, he is better as his DC counterpart, Brainiac.

When I first heard James Blendick as Galactus I think my immediate thought was "Why isn't Tony Jay back?", however after listening to it I must say that it is great. I don't remember really anything from that series, and to be honest I'm not sure I've ever watched it all the way through, but James' voice stuck with me.

My favorite is still Tony Jay, but James was cool and memorable.

Ted does sound a bit robotic, but he does sound very fitting for such an early version of the character. His deep voice fits very well in the role, if his delivery is a bit awkward at times. 7/10

Tony was a very natural choice to play Galactus and it's just as good as it would sound. His voice fits the image of Galactus extremely, even if it is a bit light compared to some of the other versions. 8.5/10

James sounds somewhat light like Tony, but his delivery is what really makes up for his performance. His voice sounds very creepy, and his slow speech pattern just makes it sound all the creepier. 8.5/10

It's sad with Greg here. I feel Greg could work very well when playing Galactus, but it is somewhat hard to make out what he is saying, he really doesn't have all that much to go off of, and what I can make out, he doesn't sound all that amazing. 3.5/10

George is just a hilarious choice to play Galactus, yet it oddly enough works I think. His deep voice works well with Galactus, and his delivery in several episodes is just hilarious, as it should be when Takei is playing it. 7.5/10

Jonathan is immediatley what I would imagine Galactus sounding when I think of him, and I'm happy that they got it right finally in MvC3. Tony and James were close to matching the perfect Galactus, but the deepness of Jonathan, and the effect on his voice just fits fantastically well, and it adds to the massive size and strength of Galactus. 9/10

John was very good in playing Galactus in Lego MSH, and he got better each time he played the role in the recent Marvel TV shows. His deep voice and gravelly tone does fit the role well and the effects added to his voice also fit well. 8/10

1. Jonathan
2. Tony
3. James
4. John
5. George
6. Ted
7. Greg

Jonathan is a Great Galactus so he should voice him more often. John is a close 2nd as he did the voice well just as I expected.

Gregg is a good Galactus voice but he really needs a better clip from the game to get more votes.

James did ok as did Tony.

George was too soft in the role.

Ted earns my respect for being the first person to voice the character which isn't easy.

Johnathan Adams is the perfect Galactus. He's everything I'd expect the character to sound like. James Blendick does good because he's NOT what I'd expect him to sound like, yet still comes off as a powerful presence. Tony Jay is epic too, as always.
