Today on the Eureka Seven Voice Compare section we have Holland whom can lets just say be a rather divisive character, anyways we shall start this off with the Bandai dub released in North America in which he was voiced by Crispin Freeman. Crispin's voice for Holland was genuinely fitting as Crispin's performance can go from aloof but cool to bitterly angry rather well. So in other words say what you will about Holland himself but Crispin Freeman was a very suitable choice for Holland and was a fine example of the voice work in the Bandai dub.

Now we shall go for the Animax dub made in Hong Kong for the SE Asia TV Market in which Colin Shevloff takes over the role here. Maybe I am too use to Crispin Freeman's work but Colin's voice for the role doesn't work for Holland at all to me as he sounds a little too high and a bit nasally as well. Granted I suppose there is a character in which Colin's voice could fit but to me Holland isn't one of them in which lets just say even when you view Colin's performance by its own merits Colin was a bit of a miscast for the role. But to be fair at least Colin's acting for Holland was decent enough as it does suit how Holland's personality can be well enough so in other words I have heard worst performances. Overall while the Animax Dub of Eureka Seven does have some good voice work I am clearly going with the Bandai Dub and Crispin Freeman this time.

Crispin Freeman's Holland was one of the major highlights of the Eureka Seven dub. He was a perfect fit for the role for starters having a gruff baritone voice, it's a bit more smoother than Keiji Fujiwara but still he still gets the character down perfectly. I agree with Pokejedservo that the way he "can go from aloof but cool to bitterly angry real well." Holland isn't necessarily the most likeable character in the show for most of it he's a cynical manchild who takes his out frustration on Renton, he's a character with a lot of moments some good but a lot of bad and Crispin nailed that. I feel this was a very inspired casting idea and a nice change of pace from Crispin's usual typecast as the aloof type of character. It was also the begining of him playing berserker type of characters which would also include Shizuo Heiwajima.

Colin Shevloff has a gruff voice but lacks any sense of coolness and just comes off as passive aggressive than actually aggressive.

In the end I feel Crispin Freeman's Holland was one of the best casting choices made in the Eureka Seven dub and performances up there tied with Kim Strauss as Dewey Novak.

Ugh. I'm sorry, Crispin Freeman For the Epic Win. With all due respect to the Animax V/A, Crispin has more depth to his portrayal of Holland. The other guy actually SOUNDED like he was reading from a script in the sample provided. And besides, I hate the way he pronounces "Eureka".
