"Never ask a group of DBZ fans which dub they prefer" - TV Tropes profile on Dragonball
EDITOR'S OPINIONAlright folks for this VC for the Dragon Ball franchise here is a VC for the Supreme Kai's aide in DBZ namely... KIBITO! In the FUNimation English release of the series Kibito has been voiced by Chuck Huber and as much as I normally like this guy's work I do find his Kibito to be a bit of a mixed bag. I dunno maybe its just me but while Kibito is not one of the biggest men in DBZ he is a pretty big guy nevertheless so I think that shouldn't a voice for Kibito be a bit deeper than what Ol' Chuck is coming up with here? Granted its probably Chuck's lowest voice that I have heard but still it seems a bit too light for the role. However in all fairness that is the only real problem I have here as Chuck's performance for the role is not bad though as it does reflect Kibito's persona pretty well. Its not one of Chuck Huber's best works in the show let alone in general but its not a really bad performance nevertheless.
In the Euro-Canadian dub of DBZ, Don Brown takes over the role here (in which it sounds like what is probably his Shenron voice but obviously without the vocal effects added in). Alike Chuck Huber I generally like Don's work but this performance is also a well-intentioned mixed bag. Fortunately Don has the right idea in going for a deeper voice even though while I suppose Don was going for something a bit more gruff it sounds a bit more gargled than anything else. Its not a really bad voice mind you as like I said before Don had the right idea in going for deeper and gruffer voice but the execution could've been a bit better. However alike his FUNi counterpart Don's performance is not bad as well as it does work with the role that is Kibito pretty well but its not the best of that dub of DBZ nor is it the worst. Overall neither one of these guys are perfect I will even go so far as to say that neither Chuck Huber or Don Brown were the best casting choices for their respective dubs but both of their performances were alright though.
