Voice Compare » Dragon Ball » Black Star Shenron

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Black Star Shenron with sound clips and images.
Black Star Shenron is a magical dragon that has the power to grant any wish when summoned using the Black Star Dragon Balls.

After a wish has been granted by the dragon, the Black Star Dragon Balls are sent throughout the galaxy, and a one-year countdown is issued for the host planet's destruction which can only be undone if the Dragon Balls are returned to that planet within this time.

In the English dub version of Dragon Ball GT by Funimation Black Star Shenron is voiced by Chris Sabat.

In the Blue Water English dub of Dragon Ball GT he is voiced by Dave Pettitt.

I'm generally not a fan of Dave's dragon voices - they sound too much like a man putting on a deep voice, i.e. not mystical or reptilian enough. However, "AS YOU WIIIIIIISH!" has me jumping out of my skin every time. For that, he gets my vote.

 1 Shout Out!
Dave Pettitt sounds so intimidating, brooding, and dark as Black Star Shenron, really a standout performance from Blue Water's GT dub here.

Chris Sabat as Black Star Shenron is really Chris Sabat's pre-Kai voice as regular Shenron, nothing really stands out from him here.

Sabat made this Shenron sound flat & uninspired. Which is a shame seeing as his voice for the regular Shenron was far better. Dave Pettitt get's the vote here.

Honestly, I don't care for Sabat's take on the Dragons too much. They're not bad per say, but they tend to sound more or less the same. Yeah, Porunga doesn't have the effect, at least not on the level of either of the Shenrons, but the Dragons seem to all lack identity in Funimation.

Dave Pettitt gets my vote as much i love chris for being the most versatile voice actor his black star shenron sounds barely different from shenron which it just sounds flat to be honest other than that he would've done it better in my opinion.

Gonna go with Dave Pettit. He gives Black Star Shenron more personality. He was supposed to be a kind of evil Shenron if memory serves, and Christopher Sabat sounds rather flat. If he did something with more of a growl I'd be great.

Normally I prefer funimation over blue water, but I have to go with Dave Pettitt for this one.

Dave Pettitt's take fits this Shenron more. Sabat barely sounds any different from the original one.

Chris is an excellent voice actor but Dave Pettitt's voice is so much more natural sounding between the two!Dave is the winner of this voice comparison!

I prefer Chris for normal Shenron, but I think that Dave's more menacing voice works better for a more evil version of him.

Chris Sabat is good and all, but in this role he sounds really fat for some reason. My vote goes for Dave Pettitt on this one. He sounds really deep and menacing, even downright demonic.

@Metabad Lol fat. Did you mean far or flat.
said at 10:54 PM on Fri Nov 9 2012
@pete No, I meant fat...like...the effects added to his voice just make him sound overweight. It sort of reminds me of Jabba the Hutt actually.

I dunno, maybe I'm just not used to it.

@Metabad To be fair, the Black Star/Red Shenron is MUCH bigger than the other one.

@Bauglir100 True enough, I suppose.

Still doesn't change my opinion on Dave Pettitt being the better voice, though.

@Metabad That is true.

I'm going with Dave. His delivery is more fearsome and the sound itself is pretty cool.
