3. Ethan Cole
4. Douglas Rand

They're all great voices for the character, but I rank them based on their acting performances.

For a mainstream voice actor in this role, I imagine Charlie Schlatter, who's got the voice and the range for pulling it off.

Chuck Huber, of course. I cannot wait to see him back in the dub of Super.

Chuck is the best. Ted would be better if he put more emotion in his performance.

From a performance standpoint, I'd say Chuck Huber is definitely the best out of the four. However, something that always kind-of bugged me about his '17 rendition is that his voice sounds a bit too old, when the character is clearly supposed to be a teenager; something that was reflected in concept and in his Japanese voice. This is probably a nit-pick on my part, since it doesn't detract from the overall performance, but it just feels odd to hear a character that looks like he's in his late teens - early 20s but sounds like he's in his late 30s (granted, his deeper tone might be because he's part robot, but still). That being said, even though I wouldn't say Chuck is "100%" with this role, he still plays it very well, thus he gets my vote.

1. Chuck Huber:

Nails the angst ridden pretty boy Android 17 is with his voice, also sounding very smug in the part, and he emotes very well believably without coming off as too emotional or too flat.

2. Ted Cole:

Similar to Chuck Huber, but has a lower pitched voice, and is a bit more flat in comparison.

3. Ethan Cole:

His voice fits the smug, cool pretty boy Android 17 is, though he sounds very flat and dull in his delivery.

4. Douglas Rand:

Awful delivery and acting, especially when it comes to yelling or shouting, despite the voice fitting the character.

There all pretty good, but if I had to pick one it would have to be Chuck Huber.

A bit of a shame Douglas didn't do GT cause I'm a bit curious on how his Super 17 would be, cause this has potential.
said at 4:04 PM on Fri Oct 28 2016
His Super 17 would probably just be his stock villain tough guy voice.

Hearing it now Douglas has better work but he's so irritating as this character

Ted is better in some other clips but not in here

Regardless my vote stays

It feels good to have Doug Rand up because his 17 is what got the ball rolling and led to pretty much the whole AB Groupe dub cast being figured out.

@NCZ And yet at the time we didn't even think it was Doug Rand doing the voice.

@Nightmare Crusher That's the funny and really interesting thing about the whole thing has been to me. We thought it was Matthew Geczky at first, and while it turns out he wasn't involved by sheer coincidence it was indeed the same talent pool and investigating what we now know was an inaccuracy ended up being the key to everything. It's really amazing how things go sometmes.

@NCZ Douglas was the key to all this. It's like poetry, it's sort of they rhyme.

Every stanza rhymes with the last one.

@Ghosty404 It's so dense. Every single image has so many things going on.

Wait, that actually describes the early Funimation dub better- BAZING!

Doug sounds decent as 17. Although the delivery of the lines are just really awkward.

Doug Rand's voice is a good fit for 17, but his line delivery and the dialogue he's given to say is laughable at best. I mean,
"We're back, back, back, back...back!" and
"Get away you...poormiserablecreatures, or be SQUAAASHED," come across as silly at best. With better direction, Doug could be quite good, though.

It's funny how this is one of the few voice compares where not one actor (or actress) did a bad job, all the English dubs always seem to understand Android 17 fairly well.

Doug Rand is kind of odd sounding at times, but I think he's a stand out for the Big Green dub. Dare I say I like him more than Ted Cole? I do, I do dare.

3. Doug Rand
4. Ted Cole

Chuck Huber and Ted Cole are both perfect fits as Android 17.

Chuck plays 17 similar to his Hiei, an aloof punk who likes to get his hands dirty while Ted Cole focuses more on how robotic 17 is.

Ethan Cole is also pretty good too.

Ultimately I'm going with Chuck Huber since I'm more used to his take.

I don't know how to feel about Cole Howard voicing Android 17 in the Ocean dub of Kai. Honestly based on all the samples of his voice work I've heard, he just sounds too young for 17. Personally I'd prefer Ted or Ethan to come back or even get someone new in the mix.

Douglas Rand actually does fit Android 17 rather well, he does get down the cocky, I don't care if I'm, hurting innocent people I just want to have fun aspect of the character rather well.

I have a feeling this is the performance that Marc Soskin/GanXingba based his 17 on for the abridged version, though his performance always reminded me of Brian Beacock if anything.

But anyways for the most part Doug Rand does work as 17 but I still prefer Chuck of course.

He's not in here but the forum but the dude from the Big Green dub sounds too silly, I'd say he's far behind Ted's robotic voice.

Chuck is good but I think I prefer Ethan in the long run, Chuck was still a bit too deep

I've never really liked any of the Android 17 voices, tbh. Chuck sounds fine and he's a great actor, it's just all i hear is Hiei.

I really like Team Four Star's voice.
said at 11:02 PM on Sun Jun 28 2015
@Savio I disagree with you, Chuck isn't just voicing #17, he is the #17 which is why i would vote for him. His own tone of voice of #17 May feel more of a variant to Hiei, but i don't care he's still a unique choice for #17 hands down.

Not gonna lie, I quite like TeamFourStar (TFS) voice of #17 as well even though he's imitator of Chuck's which i think that they are seriously going for emulation for these said characters with amount of layers they have on their own.

Chuck is just great. He's got the delinquent attitude down to a t. He's equally good with 17's smugness in battle. I like all of Chuck's Dragon Ball roles and 17 manages to be one of the best alongside Pilaf.

Ted has the right voice, but the wrong attitude. He sounds too robotic and stiff.

Ethan's voice is a little off, however he does get the attitude right. I like him a little more than Ted Cole. Though neither one is even close to Chuck.

Yeah, I know it's Cell.

Anyway, I'm going foooor... Chuck.

They all sound good and all passable.
Though Chuck has the credit for bing the most experienced and I take it hes one of those cast members they hired because of how close he sounds to the ocean version. Which he does, near identical. Chuck just has better delivery. Ted sounds a bit stiff.

Ethan sounds pretty good, he sounds the natural age and has the pitch right just sounded too wooden. No emotion put into it at all.

1. Chuck Huber - Completely perfect.
2. Ted Cole - A close second, but plays with the robot angle more.
3. Ethan Cole - Decent. Better than his Piccolo at least.

Love Chuck, but surprisingly, I kinda dug Ethan's voice more. He sounded like a teenager, the kinda voice idea expect from someone who looks like #17

Chuck is pretty much perfect in this role. Ted is good but too robotic and stiff for my liking. Ethan Cole is surprisingly good but the weakest of the three. That being said he's a very strong weakest link.

Chuck sounds a little more in a monotone, although everyone here does, a have a preference to Ted and I can't tell why or what it is, I just see him as that snarky killing (half) machine future Trunks knows all too well, Ethan is at the bottom outright, all though it's not surprising, because the voices in GT are well known for being a step down from the original, although Ethan isn't terrible and could be better, he is still my last place choice as it is...

I like that Chuck sounds so amazingly cocky, and so full of himself. I also loved how his evil voice sounded in The History of Trunks. Ted was okay, but a little flat and robotic sounding sometimes. Ethan sounded too deep, but his acting appeared to be pretty good.

Chuck is the best voice for 17, Ted is not to bad either but i prefer his yamcha voice though.
Does anyone know if Ethan and Ted are related the both sound similar to each other but ethan is just a little higher

Chuck Huber was perfect for Android 17, just like he was for Garlic Jr. and I'm 17 years old goin' on 18 years old so either 17 or 18 will match either Andriods 17 or 18. But I've never heard Ted Cole as 17 before in my life.
said at 5:41 PM on Sat Jun 2 2012
@YamiFangirlQueen If you're from the US probably not because Ted's voiced 17 in the candian dub known more commonly as the ocean dub

I like Ted Cole's deeper monotone voice the most, it's very fitting for a robot like 17.
said at 12:10 AM on Wed Feb 22 2012
@Metabad Blarg, sorry, I kinda forgot that 17 was also part human along with 18, it has been a while since I watched the series.

I still like Ted Cole the most, though there's nothing bad about Chuck's voice, I'm just more used to Ted.

As for Ethan? Well...I wasn't a huge fan of GT, and he sounds a bit off...but I guess he wasn't the worst Blue Water voice, still I prefer his Boomerang Kuwanger over his Android 17 performance.
