Voice Compare » Dragon Ball » Android 17

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Android 17 with sound clips and images.
Android 17 is a creation of Dr. Gero. He is the twin-brother of Android 18 and is also half human. He enjoys having fun, has a cocky attitude and is a bit reckless. He has a strong will power and was able to resist Dr. Gero's orders. Originally a villain he later becomes a good person and is no longer interested in destroying the Earth.

Android 17 (or should I say Cyborg 17 but that's another story) is the latest Android to be having a Voice Compare here.

First off he was voiced by FUNi VA Chuck Huber in the FUNimation dubs of anything Dragon Ball related that 17 is in. This is one of his earlier examples of his smoother moderately low voice and is one of the better ones as well. Seriously Chuck Huber definitely did a voice that's suitable for this sinister yet slick pretty-boy.

In the Euro-Canadian dub of DBZ he was voiced by Ocean Group VA Ted Cole. While there are those whom found the EuroCanadian dub of DBZ to not fully fulfill its potential and can also try a little too hard to be like the FUNi dub, and I even at times admit to understand that as well. However Ted Cole was a perfectly suitable alternative as Android 17, how well does he do the role IMO? Well to be honest I can say the same thing for Ted Cole that I did for Chuck Huber. Granted Ted's 17 voice is slightly deeper than Chuck Huber's 17 but still Ted Cole's performance as 17 was easily one of the better performances in the EuroCanadian dub of the Cell Saga. (And is one of Ted Cole's best work in general as well.)

In the Blue Water dub of DBGT he was voiced by Ethan Cole and I will say this much Ethan was FAR better as 17 than he was as Piccolo. (Yeah I know that's not saying much and to be honest I am not surprised that Ethan is more suitable for a role like 17. To be fair while I have mentioned on how I found Ethan Cole to be really miscast as Piccolo in the past, I doubt that anyone would picture Chuck Huber and Ted Cole voicing Piccolo either.) Sorry for getting a little off-topic there but still Ethan Cole's Android 17 voice is very similar to the previous two and is easily one of the better performances in the Blue Water DBGT dub.

So far my choice for Android 17 voices are a tie between Chuck Huber and Ted Cole with Ethan Cole to be surprisingly a close second.

Ted Cole sounds more like a teenage android but Chuck Huber is second. Ethan Cole is the worst but he's decent.

He's not in here but the forum but the dude from the Big Green dub sounds too silly, I'd say he's far behind Ted's robotic voice.

Chuck is good but I think I prefer Ethan in the long run, Chuck was still a bit too deep

I've never really liked any of the Android 17 voices, tbh. Chuck sounds fine and he's a great actor, it's just all i hear is Hiei.

I really like Team Four Star's voice.

@Savio I disagree with you, Chuck isn't just voicing #17, he is the #17 which is why i would vote for him. His own tone of voice of #17 May feel more of a variant to Hiei, but i don't care he's still a unique choice for #17 hands down.

Not gonna lie, I quite like TeamFourStar (TFS) voice of #17 as well even though he's imitator of Chuck's which i think that they are seriously going for emulation for these said characters with amount of layers they have on their own.

Chuck is just great. He's got the delinquent attitude down to a t. He's equally good with 17's smugness in battle. I like all of Chuck's Dragon Ball roles and 17 manages to be one of the best alongside Pilaf.

Ted has the right voice, but the wrong attitude. He sounds too robotic and stiff.

Ethan's voice is a little off, however he does get the attitude right. I like him a little more than Ted Cole. Though neither one is even close to Chuck.

They're all good. I'm going with Chuck Huber cuz I really liked his performance. Ted Cole sounds good, but this is all of heard of his version. Ethan sounds pretty good, too. Though, that's a very short clip.

I'll go with Ethan>Chuck>Ted

Who's Ted Cole talking with, Tom Kenny's Starscream?!

Yeah, I know it's Cell.

Anyway, I'm going foooor... Chuck.

They all sound good and all passable.
Though Chuck has the credit for bing the most experienced and I take it hes one of those cast members they hired because of how close he sounds to the ocean version. Which he does, near identical. Chuck just has better delivery. Ted sounds a bit stiff.

Ethan sounds pretty good, he sounds the natural age and has the pitch right just sounded too wooden. No emotion put into it at all.

1. Chuck Huber - Completely perfect.
2. Ted Cole - A close second, but plays with the robot angle more.
3. Ethan Cole - Decent. Better than his Piccolo at least.

Love Chuck, but surprisingly, I kinda dug Ethan's voice more. He sounded like a teenager, the kinda voice idea expect from someone who looks like #17

Chuck is pretty much perfect in this role. Ted is good but too robotic and stiff for my liking. Ethan Cole is surprisingly good but the weakest of the three. That being said he's a very strong weakest link.

Chuck sounds a little more in a monotone, although everyone here does, a have a preference to Ted and I can't tell why or what it is, I just see him as that snarky killing (half) machine future Trunks knows all too well, Ethan is at the bottom outright, all though it's not surprising, because the voices in GT are well known for being a step down from the original, although Ethan isn't terrible and could be better, he is still my last place choice as it is...

Chuck Huber definitely. Ted Cole is also a great choice but I found his bit here a little lacking on the attitude and cockiness.

I like that Chuck sounds so amazingly cocky, and so full of himself. I also loved how his evil voice sounded in The History of Trunks. Ted was okay, but a little flat and robotic sounding sometimes. Ethan sounded too deep, but his acting appeared to be pretty good.

Chuck is the best voice for 17, Ted is not to bad either but i prefer his yamcha voice though.
Does anyone know if Ethan and Ted are related the both sound similar to each other but ethan is just a little higher

Chuck Huber was perfect for Android 17, just like he was for Garlic Jr. and I'm 17 years old goin' on 18 years old so either 17 or 18 will match either Andriods 17 or 18. But I've never heard Ted Cole as 17 before in my life.

@YamiFangirlQueen If you're from the US probably not because Ted's voiced 17 in the candian dub known more commonly as the ocean dub

Ted Cole with ought a doubt.

He's got that coolness to his voice and he really sounds care free like 17 should.

Chuck will forever be my 17

I like Ted Cole's deeper monotone voice the most, it's very fitting for a robot like 17.
said at 12:10 AM on Wed Feb 22 2012
@Metabad Blarg, sorry, I kinda forgot that 17 was also part human along with 18, it has been a while since I watched the series.

I still like Ted Cole the most, though there's nothing bad about Chuck's voice, I'm just more used to Ted.

As for Ethan? Well...I wasn't a huge fan of GT, and he sounds a bit off...but I guess he wasn't the worst Blue Water voice, still I prefer his Boomerang Kuwanger over his Android 17 performance.

Uhh. is there really any debate? I mean, Chuck's the only one that doesn't like he's selling Cocoa Puffs in a commercial :S

agreed with Penguintruth. All 3 do a good job, but Chuck stands out the most for me. I've always like hearing his voice especially for villains
