I will say, Will Ryan's performance in Mickey's Christmas Carol is WAAAAAAAAY better than his DuckTales performance:

From oldest to most recent:

Billy sounds like a pretty classic cartoon tough guy gangster type, pretty gruff and angry with a hint of sleaze. It's a good performance, but it doesn't stand out to me.

John...I don't know if he was directed to play Pete as a different kind of character than the norm here, but he uses the same kind of voice and intonation as his narrator role in the Goofy "How To" shorts.

Poor Will Ryan, always a bridesmaid, never a bride in these Disney productions. He plays Pete as basically a dimwitted henchman voice here, and it doesn't work for me, especially since it's too high pitched without any of the real gruff tone.

Arthur! I was very surprised here how good that performance was. It works for Pete far better than I expected, and I really commend it. He puts the right amount of menace and deep tones into the performance, and while I'll admit it's not as gruff as I'd like, it works really nicely.

Jim Cummings, I'll fully admit, he has the definitive Pete voice to me. He plays him as dimwitted, but not too dimwitted, with exactly the right amount of gruffness. It's menacing, yet comical, in a way that blends the two moods nicely together.

My rankings on Pete's voices:

5. Will Ryan - This voice is REALLY iffy. Will sounds more like Goofy here than he does Pete. It doesn't really say "brutish villain" to me.

4. John McLeich - It's kinda meh. Maybe it's just I haven't heard much of his performance but it doesn't really sound villainous here. Better than Will but not by much.

3. Arthur Burghardt - It's quite like John but a million times better. He sounds more evil and sinister which suits Pete alright. Not much else to say.

2. Billy Bletcher - The original and he's still pretty great! He sounds tough, mean and brutish, exactly how Pete should be! Of course there's one who perfected the role more.

1. Jim Cummings - Jim is the definitive Pete for me. He has everything, right down to the brute-like voice, the occasional sinister tone and a comedic side to boot. He took the role and perfected it. Definitely one of his best!

Jim Cummings is pretty much a perfect fit for Pete: he sounds like a smug, intimidating brutish villain when it's needed, but also nails the comedic bumbling side of the character too.

Arthur Burghardt is pretty good as well, and I liked Billy Bletcher's take too.

John McLeich is decent, if a bit generic.

Will Ryan's take is far too goofy and silly to be taken seriously as Pete and it doesn't really fit the bully persona the character often has, either.

Will Ryan was way better in Mickey's Christmas Carol. I've seen a clip on YouTube before.

I'll check that out as soon as I can: from what I'm seeing below, most people seem to agree with that.

Jim Cummings's Pete is perfect. He strikes a nice balance of comedy and brutish menace.

Arthur Burghardt is a pretty good fit all things considered though some of his delivery isn't as natural as Jim's is.

Will Ryan's Ducktales performance was weird but he did well in the Christmas Carol, he was really scary in that one.

Billy Bletcher is pretty good too though I feel he sounds a bit dated at times, same with John McLeish.

I've got to give this one to Jim, he's got my vote.

I'm too used to Jim.

Will, Billy, and Arthur are good. John is kind of weak (maybe he's better in other shorts).

My two favorites are Jim and Billy, leaning a little toward Jim. Arthur was pretty good too though, he definitely was the most menacing of the bunch.

Cummings, but only just. Jim has the perfect sense of comedy and intimidation as Pete.

Burghardt... though he can be funny as Pete, he's by far the most intimidating Pete actor of the lot. I know it's a nitpick but that's why he is a hell-close second. Plus I would like him to come back as Pete sometime.

Will Ryan's good, but he did better outside of Ducktales.

Bletcher was the original and he was good. I guess the only problem is that voice is distinctive for its time period. I don't know if that voice/accent would work for a modern day Pete. Still, it still delivers.

McLeish. Same thing with Billy, only you can really hear the vintage sounding voice, like the 1950's radio announcers.

I think Jim and Arthur are the two best suited for Pete, especially now-a-days.

@Aussieroth I had an extra sentence in there which somehow didn't get typed it. It was meant to read:

"Burghardt... though he can be funny as Pete, he's by far the most intimidating Pete actor of the lot. I think the only issue is he was genuinely too intimidating. I know it's a nitpick but that's why he is a hell-close second. Plus I would like him to come back as Pete sometime."

I like the extra evil and intimidating note Arthur gives Pete. It sounds like Pete while putting his own spin on it, and out of all the voices it's the one I can take most seriously. He gets my vote.

1. Jim Cummings: Cummings is known for doing villainous roles, and Pete wasn't an exception. His booming bass voice fits this character to a tee.
2. Billy Bletcher: Yes he is the original voice, and he is good.
3. Arthur Burghardt: He is a great Pete voice, but sometimes he kinda sounds like Kevin Michael Richardson
4. John McLeish: Voice is a little deeper than Billy Bletcher but it's workable.
5. Will Ryan: His clip here from DuckTales is awful.

Jim has 2 be my fav as he's the 1 i'm used 2.

Billy & John are pretty good though.

Arthur was too deep voiced for Pete I thought.

Will just wasn't Pete at all.

@Ross123 You should totally listen to his take on Pete in Mickey's Christmas Carol if you can find it, his role in the movie is short but HOLY CRAP he scared me so much when I was a kid! He totally redeems himself there.
said at 10:04 AM on Tue Jul 1 2014
@Metabad Just watched a clip on YouTube and you're right, Will has redeemed himself. I take back what I said about him not being Pete. But at the same time, I think it was a bit too deep just like Arthur.

@Ross123 I know someone else already mentioned Mickey's Christmas Carol but I will say this

The only Pete I don't like is John but Will degraded later on his run his later run is worse than Billy to me

Course Jim will always be the Pete I imagine

@HienFan I agree, Jim is the best Pete there is right now. I can't imagine any1 else voicing him at this stage.

I may be biased since I grew up with him in the role, but I simply love Jim Cummings in the role of Pete, especially in Kingdom Hearts! He is the perfect marriage of Pete as idiot, bungler and villain!

Will's version of Pete in Mickey's Christmas Carol is a lot better. He sounds way more menacing there, and more like the original, Billy Bletcher. I don't really like Jim Cummings' rendition of the character. It just sounds like Jim Cummings to me, nothing more. Yes, you may start the angry mob now.
said at 6:33 AM on Tue Dec 6 2016
@Joop Fair point on Jim Cummings. He does sound like himself, but his performance is really entertaining.

And I know you're not really goading an angry mob.
