EDITOR'S OPINION

Whether you know her as Lei Lei or as Hsien Ko this rather buxom Kuang Shi is one of the lovely ladies of the Darkstalkers series.

In the reviled North American Darkstalkers animated series she was voiced by Ocean Group VA Lisa Ann Beley. Yes I am well aware of how many were not thrilled with her metallic hands and lack of blue skin, but I didn't think her voice was so bad though. While its not one of Lisa's best performances I did like on how it sounded like she did some attempt on the accent and it did fit her persona in this show.

In the Darkstalkers Anime's English Dub she was voiced by Ocean Group VA Nicole Oliver and I must say I had mixed feelings. To be honest I was surprised when I heard Nicole's handiwork as I didn't picture Hsien Ko to sound like that at all. Well don't get me wrong Nicole Oliver is not a bad VA but it seemed a bit off at first. However in retrospection while I wasn't sure if Nicole's voice fits Hsien Ko her acting was definitely just fine though and it did at least fit her in the anime though so I suppose that's certainly got to count for something huh?

Neither one are necessarily perfect for the role but they both do have their qualities though.

Her having an accent makes sense since as far as I know she's supposed to from China. That said the other two have the better voice/tone and better performance.

Anyone want to see Ming-Na or Lucy Liu voice Hsien-Ko?

 2 Shout Outs! [?]
Hunter Mackenzie Austin was, of course, too squeaky and high-pitched, and just because Lei-Lei is from China doesn't mean she needs a thick accent. I go with Nicole Oliver because she makes Lei-Lei actually sound like the 16-year-old she is (or should I say was).

Hunter's Hsien-Ko voice makes her sound far too cutesy, even borderline ditzy at times. Hsien-Ko isn't meant to be either.

I'd have to vote for Hunter on this.
Lisa's was awful and while Nicole's wasn't bad at all, it just wasn't too fitting for the character.

Nicole Oliver is my favourite. I also liked Hunter's, but she sounded slightly younger than I'd prefer. She'd have been a natural choice for Pocket Fighter, however.

Nicole's is WAY better.

1. She makes Hsien-Ko sound like a teenager instead of a 30-year-old woman.
2. She actually knows how to pronounce the name {it's not "Sinko", Lisa}.
3. She didn't add on some vaguely asian hard-to-understand accent.
4. Emotion is present and believable.

Heisn-Ko having an accent just doesn't work for her. Defintely sticking with Nicole's voice.
