Voice Compare » DC Universe » Zatara
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Zatara with sound clips and images.
Zatara is a DC Comics Superhero whom made his comic book debut in the first issue of Action Comics in June of 1938 (yep the first comic that Super Man appeared in). Zatara's full name is Giovanni "John" Zatana and he is also known as the father of famous Super-Heroine Zatanna. While in public Zatara is a famous illusionist and escape artist but he is also genuinely capable of having magical powers as well as he is also a Homo Magi a sub-race of magic using humans in the DC Comics universe. But while he was known as a prominent super hero back in the earlier years of DC comics nowadays he is mainly known as Zatanna's father.

EDITOR'S OPINIONToday on the DC Universe VC section we shall have a VC for the master magician whom is also Zatanna's father... ZATARA! We shall begin with Batman the Animated series in which Zatara appeared for one episode and was voiced by the late Vincent Schiavelli. While Zatara only appeared for one scene as a flashback in one episode but Vincent's performance for the role does make Zatara a bit of a one-scene wonder here. Vincent's voice and performance for the role has a intellectual but warm and fatherly feel in which while one could understand why Zatara didn't appear more often it still is a shame that Zatara only appeared for one scene. So in other words Vincent's performance as Zatara is a rather good example of the classic voice work of the Batman Animated series.
Nearly a couple of decades later, Nolan North gets to take over the role as Zatara occasionally appears in Young Justice. While I understand why Nolan North would try to go for an Italian accent for Zatara considering Zatara's full name but still Nolan's attempt at an Italian accent is average at best. (However I suppose Nolan does deserve some credit on how his Zatara voice is rather different from what I am normally use to from him.) But still while Zatara hasn't been given all that many lines yet in this series Nolan's performance is decent enough as it is a decent fit for the role but its only an alright example of Nolan North's work. Overall neither one of them are bad for the role but the late Vincent Schiavelli sounded more natural in the role.
