Voice Compare » DC Universe » Astaroth
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Astaroth with sound clips and images.
Astaroth is one of the various villains in the DC Comics Universe and while DC has used the name of Astaroth before in their comics DC's take on Astaroth is primarily known for being in the Batman Brave and the Bold series. Astaroth is known as a demonic overlord whom is an enemy of the Demon Etrigan/Jason Blood ever since Etrigan and Merlin sealed Astaroth to his current domain centuries ago. Astaroth is also known in the origin story of Gentleman Ghost as he manipulated Jim Craddock into getting him souls and in exchange immortality but Astaroth turned Gentleman Jim Craddock into Gentleman Ghost instead. Astaroth is DC Comis' homage to the Demonic Prince of the same name namely Astaroth the Goetic Demon from the book "The Lesser Key of Solomon".
EDITOR'S OPINIONToday on the DC Universe VC section we have a little something for this demonic overlord whom is sometimes known as the one whom created Gentleman Ghost... ASTAROTH! We shall begin with Batman Brave and the Bold where he is voiced by special guest star Tony Todd. While this is of course not the first time Tony has done a low voice for a villainous role but to be honest I expected his voice for the role to be a bit lower and more demonic. Granted to be fair Tony's voice for the role is rather low but still its not as demonic and menacing as I thought it would. However I do notice that Tony is trying to play Astaroth as a Regal Overlord in which he does do a pretty good job at that. So in other words Tony Todd's work as Astaroth is definitely not bad but its not as good as I thought it would be.
Now for the Video game based off the Batman Brave and the Bold TV series while the TV series' cast were generally able to reprise their roles in the game Astaroth was an exception in which Kevin Michael Richardson gets to take over the role here. Alike Tony Todd, Kevin is also known for doing deep voices and often does them well for villainous roles but his voice for Astaroth also seems a little strange as it also doesn't seem to be deep and demonic enough for the role here. One problem I have with Kevin's work on the role is that his voice was a little inconsistent as it was actually a little too high for the role at first but to be fair his voice does deepen later on and of course does get better. However to be fair I am aware of how KMR was hired to try to imitate Tony Todd's work on the role and he does a decent job in that regard. But while Kevin's work on the role is decent but I have heard him do considerably better work as demonic creatures alike Astaroth in the past. Overall neither one of them were bad but both of their works seems to be a bit lighter than I thought they would be but still I suppose I will go with Tony Todd nevertheless.
