EDITOR'S OPINIONHappy Halloween everyone! So for the latest VC for Castlevania we have the son of Dracula ALUCARD!
We shall actually start this from Season 3 of Captain N with Alucard voiced by Ocean Group VA Ian James Cortlett. Though of course Ian James Cortlett is the only thing remotely renowned about Alucard's depiction in Captain N.
Like certain other characters DiC had no intention on taking this character seriously as you can see here (though at least Alucard's rebellious personality seems to be still there). But still alike Andrew Kavadas as Simon Belmont, Ian's performance did fit the characterization that DiC was going with here.
In the late 90's we have the highly renowned PS1 game Castlevania Symphony of the Night with the rather revered English voice work back then, in which Alucard was voiced by Robert Belgrade. Aside from the likes of Metal Gear Solid and the Mega Man Legends series the voice acting in Video games back then were generally deemed either infuriatingly atrocious to So Bad its Good. (In which Castlevania Symphony of the Night was sadly by no means an exception.) To be honest aside from a questionable line or few Robert's work as Alucard didn't seem that bad to me, the voice didn't seem so bad and well its one of the better performances in that game back then.
In the PSP version of that game (and Castlevania Judgment for the Wii) Alucard was voiced VA Yuri Lowenthal. Say what you will about Yuri being a bit overused in voicing pretty boys with angst issues but to me this is one of Yuri's better performances with that kind of role. Seriously I found Yuri's voice to be QUITE fitting for Alucard here and his work as Alucard is probably one of his better performances.
So yeah I am pretty much going with Yuri Lowenthal here as the best of the 3 Alucard English voices here.
