Well folks time to start off the Cardcaptor Sakura Voice Compare section with the main character of the show SAKURA!

In the English dub of the series she was voiced by then child actress Carly McKillip. Now I know, I know about how many fans hated the dub of the TV series (though I heard what went wrong with the American showing is more Kids WB's fault IIRC) but still I never thought Carly was a bad choice for her. It's not the first time Ocean ever used a Child to do voice work, Carly may be no Andrea Libman but she is not that bad.

In the English dub of the 2nd movie done by Pioneer she was voiced by VA Kari Wahlgren. Now Kari is well known for doing cutesy higher voices well and this is no exception at all as she was definitely a perfectly suitable alternative.

Overall I am not too sure, I like them both.

All of them are fine as far as dubbing goes...but I went with Carly.

why didn't Carly voice her in the second movie anyway?

@dreamer This is because the second movie was recorded in Los Angeles instead of Vancouer, Canada.

@thomwim did not know that! Thanks for the info!

Kari was so awkward for me to listen to in the second cardcaptors movie...Carly was perfect for me. I first heard her when I was only 9 and I'm 20 now. That voice will forever be 'Sakura' to me. I don't recall Andrea at all??

@dreamer Andrea voiced Sakura in the English dub produced in Hong Kong for Animax stations in South-East Asia.

This remains for me to be one of those situations where the character really is like two entirely different people depending on the scripting. So it's less the voices and more like the personalities that I feel compelled to compare.

On one hand, we have the cute, naive Sakura Kinomoto who appears in the original Japanese dub and the more by-the-book English dubs that Kari Wahlgren and Andrea Kwan appear in. Then there's the more tomboyish, spunky Sakura Avalon played by Carly McKillip in Nelvana's Americanized incarnation of the show known as "Cardcaptors."

Naturally, the voice actors play their roles well enough under the direction they were given. But "Avalon" seems a tad too bratty for me to enjoy as a main character. Then again, it appears that "Li Showron" was meant to be the main character of "Cardcaptors." So "Kinomoto" takes the cake as the more interesting character to watch. When she's happy, we're smile. When she's sad, we cry. When she kicks ass, we totally root for her to kick ass.

Of course, considering the "Kinomoto" character (or so to speak) is played by two different people, I'd pick Kari over Andrea. There's just something about her presence that really sticks out. Of course, I must wonder how she'd do if her role extended beyond just a single movie.

Carly McKillip. I grew up listening to that voice, and besides. The other two voices were just too cutesy and squeaky...

Kari is much better. Sure, she's not "Age Appropriate" but Carly felt far to old for such a young girl anyway.

Because Carly's voice sounded too mature for a little girl. Her personality didn't quite match what Sakura really is (cute innocent). I think picking carly was a form of censorship to mask down the cutesyness of the show.

so how come they didnt keep Carly McKillip and her co stars for the second film? That was kind of a shame.
Dont get me wrong, her sucessors did well, but... they sound too unrealistic to have a kid voice.
Id rather have voiceactors with proper age than voiceactors faking their age.

They cut off when Sakura says HOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! because Carly McKillip can't do that part. Only Kari Wahlgren can do it.

I know this may sound weird but Carly McKillip's voice sounds too old. I mean I know she was like 12 when she voice Sakura, but the voice for some reason sounds way too old for Sakura. Kari on the other hand is perfect. Like Shadee88 said she sounds like a cute and innocent girl which is what Sakura is.

Kari Wahlgren makes Sakura sound like a cute innocent girl.

But Carly McKilip makes her sound like a bratty teenager. She is also not a good voice actor and shows little emotion.

Kids can only do their own voice but adults can do more voices.

Kari Wahlgren was perfect as Sakura! It's a shame she couldn't perform the role as much.
