Voice Compare » Captain America » Winter Soldier

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Winter Soldier with sound clips and images.
Winter Soldier is initially a foe now Anti-hero ally of Captain America whose comic book debut was in Captain America Volume 5 #1 in January of 2005. Winter Soldier is one of the various fates that have happened to Captain America's sidekick Bucky in which Bucky was captured and brainwashed into a cold-blooded assassin by the Soviets (or in one story the Red Skull). Back when Winter Soldier was a villain his persona somewhat differed (he is either a violent amnesiac or hates Captain America and blames him for his predicament here) but when he becomes a Anti-Hero he makes amends to Cap and wishes to atone for his past as Winter Soldier. As Winter Soldier Bucky is a lot stronger with his new cybernetic arm and while he is still well known as Cap's old partner he has worked with the Black Widow before as well.

EDITOR'S OPINION

Alright folks today in the Captain America VC section we take a look at this new version of Bucky... WINTER SOLDIER! Lets begin...

Crispin Freeman- First of all one can tell that his voice and performance for the role is very similar to what he has done for Albedo Piazzola (well namely when he is speaking to Cap). But to be fair all things considered it is rather understandable. But still Crispin's voice is pretty good as his performance as he can go from serious minded soldier to someone who has a bit too much issues with his old partner. Its a pretty good example of Crispin's work and of the voice work in the game.

Jon Curry-  At first I thought that Jon's voice was perhaps a little too high but I did start to like it more as I have realized that Jon was playing Winter Soldier as Scott Menville's Bucky all grown up and kind of bitter about his life. While Jon's voice and performance for the role was okay at first but he did get considerably better later on when the show did more focus on Winter Soldier's past. It was a good example of Jon's work and of the voice work in the show nevertheless.

Overall both are pretty good for the role in their own way so I am not sure who to pick here.

Jon Curry sounds a bit to high but his acting is fine. Crispin Freeman sounds more natural and I also like how he sounds like a sane Albedo Piazzola. Vote goes to Freeman.

Crispin Freeman for me. I'm not really a fan of Jon Curry's voice. I don't think the raspiness works, the voice is a bit too high and to be honest, the voice is very dull while Crispin sounds more entertaining and interesting IMO.

I'll go with Crispin.

Is it just me or does Curry sound slightly like Solid Snake? (At least to me)

@BlackWolf219 I was thinking the same thing, but I was thinking more like a very bad impression of Snake.

I thought for a moment that he in A:EMH, was voiced by Adrian Pasdar.

@Dodgibishi You were thinking of that politician the Red Skull disguised himself as. He sounded a lot like Adrian but was really Steve Blum who also played Red Skull on the show.

@Dodgibishi scratch that he sound like Adrian as well but the other dude did as well.

@pete I dunno, Dell Rusk only sounded like Steve to me, maybe it's just cause I'm used to hearing him.

On top of that Curry sounds a bit forced and a bit too high. Crispin fits for Winter's crazy moments and his normal villain moments plus I can see him in heroic moments.

To be fair, Jon's take does sound slightly higher due to the fact that these were taken from an Australian airing, where they are slightly sped up.

Jon Curry, though I was disappointed they didn't get Scott Menville to play Winter Soldier; he could've used his Nightwing voice.

@TheVengeanceKnight I think they might have and changed their minds, in one of the previously on segments (I think in Code Red) they play the scene where winter soldier injects Ross with the Hulk serum and he sounds like Scott's voice instead of Jon's, as well as sounding different than it did in the episode it appeared.

Giving it to Jon Curry. It's more unique. I do think Crispin's take works though.
