Voice Compare » Batman » Robin / Dick Grayson
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Robin / Dick Grayson with sound clips and images.
Robin, nicknamed "The Boy Wonder" is the partner/side-kick of Batman. Dick Grayson is the original Robin, with others succeeding him (Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne) after he became Nightwing. Before he became Robin, Dick was an acrobatic and part of a circus act called "The Flying Graysons" alongside his parents. When a mafia failed to exort the circus owner, he sabotaged the trapeze ropes, resulting in he death of DIck's parents.
Having lost his own parents to criminals, Bruce Wayne (aka Batman) took Dick under his wing where he eventually became Robin.
Batman teaches Robin necessary skills to be a crime fighter such as several martial arts, stealth, forensics and escapology. Like Batman, Robin has no super powers but makes up for it by reaching the maximum limits of human potential through intensive training. His agility and acrobatic skills are rivaled by few.

hey a thought accord.... as much as i love Scott menville ((and trust me he is like 3rd place for me)) i just realized..... he acted WAY to serious in teen titans.. there is nothing wrong with that mind you.. but dick greyson was more known for being the witty robin

Whatever problems I have with his Nightwing (though it's growing on me, like I said in that VC), I enjoyed Jesse McCartney's Robin from the get-go -in fact, this was the role that convinced me that the guy can really act.
He has my vote.

My vote goes to Scott Menville, he sounds like the young confident super hero robin should be. I don't really like Jesse McCartney's Robin at all and Loren sounds rather flat.

@LordofEvil96 I don't mind either Jesse McCartney of Loren Lester that much, but I certainly agree with you on Scott Menville.

How the hell is Loren Lester winning? He was one of the weakest voices in BTAS, and probably one of the weakest Robins overall. He got much better as Nightwing, though.
I feel that Jesse McCartney gets Dick down to a tee, from his immaturity to his strong skills as a leader.

Wish they got Casey Kasem or Burt Ward for the The New Batman Adventures episode "Legends of the Dark Knight. Brianne got the job dine but isn't my favorite voice for campy Robin. Also she's the only female to voice Dick making it a bit of a strange casting even though people familiar with her work know she can do young boy voices quite well.

So this comparison is basically Loren Lester vs Jesse McCartney since it could go either way in these comparisons.

Scott Menville is my favorite. He made Dick sound dedicated, and a serious leader, but he still had some of those childish traits we think of when we think of Batman's sidekick.
I haven't seen Young Justice, but aside from the lisp I like Jesse McCartney's clip. He'll by my second place.
Loren Lester is my third. He has a good voice, but some of his acting was a little too wooden and awkward. I wouldn't mind hearing him reprise the role sometime.
Overall, I think Scott Menville turned in a great rendition of Dick Grayson and I would love to hear his Robin in different things.

Loren Lester - Good, But I felt a lot of BTAS voice acting fell flat.
Scott Menville - Was perfect for that show, probably wouldnt be so perfect in another version. Still love him, though.
Evan Sabera - A little to nasally.
Jeremy Shada - He did this before he got famous for Adventure Time. He did just fine.
Crawford Wilson - Wow, he really does sound like an older Jeremy.
Jesse McCartney - When I heard he was cast as Robin, I died a little inside. But now, I love it. I've completely forgot he did the voice.
Charlie Schlatter - Pretty good, actually.

Jesse McCartney is hands down my favorite voice actor for Robin. He did such a fantastic job in regards to bringing out the humour, wit, and as previously mentioned, a stroke of snarkyness within the character, amidst the lisp, which in my personal opinion actually added more persona to the young Robin.
Although, I must say Loren Lester came at a very close second, and that he too, portrayed Robin greatly.

I'm still sticking to my vote to Scott Menville. It's a different Dick Grayson. He's a lot less childish. But, I like the voice for the character and he's done a fantastic job.
Jesse McCartney eventually grew on me. I didn't like that he put a lisp at first. But, it stopped bugging me later on. He did a pretty good job.

Dick Grayson, the first and some might say greatest Robin:
Loren Lester - He works because this Dick is a lot older than most so he nails it.
Scott Menville - I really enjoyed his unique take on Robin, once again showing how great a voice cast TT had.
Evan Sabara - I've said it before and I'll say it again; I love The Batman. And Evan delivers a great performance as the young Dick shown in the series.
Casey Kasem - The first Robin voice, he may be the best voice from that series, or atleast my favourite.
Burt Ward - He has a good voice for the role, and although I slightly prefer Kasem, Ward is also very enjoyable, albeit highly cheesy.
Shane Haboucha - Excellent casting. I loved it, just like every voice in that movie.
Jeremy Shada - One of the better Brave and the Bold voices. He can really sound like Scott Menville at times, which I like.
Crawford Wilson - He reminds a bit of Loren Lester, and they both go for the same aged Dick Grayson. The only problem that
I have is that he sounds very little like an older version of Shada.
Jesse McCartney - This is a fine example of questionable but perfect casting. He fits into the role very naturally. Love
it.
Jason Marsden - Great impression of Burt Ward.
Grey DeLisle - Although I liked it, I'm glad it was a small role because it can really sound like Velma.
My favourite is Jesse McCartney, followed in a close second by Scott, then Evan, Loren, Jeremy Shada, Shane, Casey, Crawford,
Burt Ward, Jason Marsden, and then Grey.

Scott Menville was actually the first Robin I've heard, and I really LOVED Teen Titans, so there's a lot of bias I have on this one. Still, I really liked him as Robin, mostly for the youthfulness and energy he brought to the character, and had very good chemistry with the rest of the cast (particularly Hynden Walch as Starfire). Surprisingly, Scott's Robin isn't too far from his natural voice.
But at the same time, Young Justice also has great voice acting, with Jesse McCartney's Robin being a prime example. His voice is more distinctive compared to the others, and really played on his snarky attitude and no-nonsense persona. I also have to say, YJ is one of the VERY few animated productions that actually uses celebrity voice-over talent remarkably well; mind you, this is coming from someone who normally strongly opposes that practice (just watch the CGI Smurfs movie from last year...)!
In the end, Scott Menville and Jesse McCartney are my favorites.

@Bombermanp naw it's tim, tim swore red and green from his first appearance until superboy died in which he changed hos colors to match conner's. Tim is also the only robin in the comics to wear the outfit in the picture here, it was then used for all other robins in animation starting in 1992.

I think it largely depends on which Robin we're talking about. For Dick Grayson, I'd go for Loren Lester. For Tim Drake, Mathew Valencia. Can't say I've been taken with the few Jason Todd voices there have been. Really enjoyed Jensen Ackle's Red Hood voice from Under The Red Hood but the younger Jason voices were quite forgettable.

My picks for each Robin;
[Dick Grayson]
Jesse McCartney
Evan Sabara
Loren Lester
Scott Menville
and a special honor to Casey Kasem for being the first Dick as Robin I heard.
[Tim Drake]
Troy Baker
Wil Wheaton
Jonathan Roumie
and Eli Marienthal
Of course, Jason's two voices from Under the Red Hood did a nice job too for him :)

I've heard both Troy Baker and Crispin Freeman brandied about as Robin in Arkham City, though currently Wikipedia (or at least the pages about Tim Drake and Baker) and TVTropes state it's Baker and given their past roels I've seen, I personally believe it's Baker, but since the credits don't state who voices who, I understand why you went the route of "Unknown Voice Actor".
Regardless, though, whoever voiced Tim in AC was good in the role.

Similar to Nightwing, Loren Lester as Dick as Robin is okay, but not my fav. And since not all of these are Dick as Robin, I'm gonna go on a case by case basis.
Dick Grayson: Like I said, Loren is okay, but not my favorite. I'm going to say Jesse McCartney is my favorite as Dick as Robin and I think he fits Dick as Robin. Evan Sabara was pretty good as a just starting out as Robin Dick Grayson. Scott Menville, Jeremy Shada, and Crawford Wilson are good, too.
Jason Todd: Not really a wolud lot to compare here, only a young kid and teen version, but both Alexander and Vincent Martella did a good job as Jason as Robin.
Tim Drake: I guess Eli Marienthal for him. As the clip of Static Shock, his Robin does have a little more of Tim from the comics, though in thr Mystery of the Batwoman DTDVD he did act more like DCUA Tim did. That said, Shane Sweet and Mathew Valencia are good, too, but overall DCAU Tim was a combo of Tim and Jason. I normally like Wil Wheaton's work, but his Tim sounds a little older than he should. From what I've seen of Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu, Meville was good as Tim as Robin. I hope Tim talks in Arkham City and if so, they get a good voice actor for him.
Damian Wayne: Agian, not really anything to compare here. Patrick Cavanaugh was all right for how the show did him, but that wasn't the Damian of the comics; even barring the change of who his mother was, he has a different personality from the comics' Damian.

I'll probably get blasted for this, but...
Loren Lester's Robin annoys the hell out of me. Especially since he's practically an adult and sounds annoying. Matthew Valencia isn't as annoying, but he's meant to be a kid, so I'll cut him some slack.
Scott Menville is #1 for me, with Evan Sabara, a kid Robin whose voice didn't annoy the hell out of me, in second place.

well here is the problem with this voice compare. most of this robins are not even the same robins. there are atleast 4 differnt people who became robin
Dick Grayson ((loren, scott, crawford, even, i possibly jesse and anyone who plaid the super old version))
Jason Todd ((the Martella bros))
& Tim Drake ((Wheaton, possibly jessie, Mathew shane and eli))
are the most famous
Damian Wayne has only been voiced by patrick
i never saw dark tomorrow is i dont know which Jonathan Roumie voiced i assume its Grayson.
dont feel blasted by us.. you just need to realize not all Robins are the same character. the reason why loren sounds like a adult is because in that batman series Dick grayson is a teenager soon to develope into a adult. ((aka going solo and becoming nightwing)) scott is kinda the same thing but in teen titans robin left earlier before switching to the good ol black and blue. and in the batman he gose threw the whole process of growing up.
as with tim he has only been portrayed as a kid becoming a teenager.
and jason starts as a kid, dies as a teenager then is resurrected, time skiped and he became a adult ((spoiler alert he is the new red hood and was possibly RedX))
idk about Damian. all i know is that he is the biological son of bruce

I'm gonna go with Loren Lester because when I'm reading the comics his voice is the one I hear reading the lines, and he's also the Robin I grew up hearing the most. I also like Scott Menville's quite alot too. What I don't understand is how Jesse McCartney's is so high on the poll. His acting's not all that great, and he has a bit of lisp which is kind of distracting. He's easily the worst in my opinion.

@thegreatd I kind of agree that Jesse's lisp is a little distracting at times, but he does bring a different side of Robin we've never seen. Smart, serious and fun. I also think he's high on the poll mainly because Young Justice is the most recent show that Robin's been on so people mainly remember his version of it.

Dick loved his parents. The Show was just illustrating The Fact that Bruce took him in , taught him to discipline his mind & harness his rage for the greater good. Thus , Dick sees Bruce as a father-figure.

Burt Ward is always number 1 to me. Then Casey Kasem.
ALSO! It's an interesting fact that Casey was Robin before he was Shaggy. :) There were TWO filmation series of Batman in the 60s, one had Burt Ward as Robin and the other had Casey Kasem

My fave is Loren Lester. Too bad TPTB haven't asked him back to be NW to Kevin Conroy's Batman. Though Casey Kasem's Robin is a classic that when you think of Superfriends, you can easily conjure up his voice.
Let's get a voice comparison of all the Batgirls and Catwomen.

Why bring Tim Drake voice work in? That is comparing apples and oranges as Tim IS NOT the same personality as Dick Grayson and different voices are required. For many people, the show went down hill with the additon of Tim Drake. As for strictly Dick Grayson, Loren Lester and Evan Sabara. Set up a seperate Tim Drake category please. Thank you

Also maybe Anndi McAfee should be added even though she played the female robin (Carrie in TNBA Episode "Legends of the Dark Knight"). Just a thought. Great work too guys.

Not to nitpicky or anything but there are a few still that need to be added, which have been mentioned earlier actually. They are Eli Marienthal (Tim Drake/Robin in Batman: Mystery of The Batwoman Movie & in the Static Shock Episode "The Big Leagues"), Shane Sweet (Tim Drake/Robin in the Static Shock episode "Future Shock"), and Brianne Siddall (50's Robin in The New Batman Adventures Episode "Legends of the Dark Knight").

Loren Lester Wins my vote for Robin.
He was the first to show some edge to his character and not just the same ol Holy Phantasmagoria!
I loved his one liners too:
"Funny, I don't remember a Batgirl in our little club"

The best Robin to me, was Loren Lester as Robin and/or Nightwing. My runner up would be Casey Kasem, because I was so used to his voice on the SuperFriends as well as the 1968 Filmation cartoons. I also have sentimental favor to Burt Ward, whose voice fit perfectly for the 1977 Batman series in addition to playing Robin on live action TV.

How is it that Robin and his parents were all circus performers who were killed by a gangster and yet in the Teen Titans Episode "Apprentice" the show made it seem like Batman was his father?

Scott Menville is my favorite for a young Robin. For an older Robin and Nightwing, Loren Lestor.
Scott Menville also did Red X's voice on Teen Titans which always sounded like a darker Robin. I always use that voice in my head whenever I read Jason Todd since he's become a psycho in the comics as of late LOL!

It's no joke, Shaggy was Robin. In fact Robin was the first cartoon voice that Casey did. He voiced Robin in the 1968 Batman cartoons.
Shaggy was introduced in 1969.
